FYI - Soccer has resumed in Germany, as the Bundesliga started up this weekend to play in empty stadiums. Could be a preview of things to come, and definitly a good test case to see how Germany handles professional soccer in the near future.
When will they allow fans in? How many at a time? ...and will fans show up? Interesting to note that in soccer crazy Germany, only 49% of the populace wants soccer to resume. Many others say it's too early.
The NASCAR race had empty seats yesterday and it looked strange to me but it’s a move to get back to what we do. It was racing and I’ll take it lol
Personally I think all professional sports are going to start back up in the near future, most likely with severely reduced crowds or no fans in the stadium whatsoever. I don't see a problem with it, the players are rich enough that the could limit their social contacts easily outside the sports arena and not spread the virus if they get it. They also can get testing like normal citizen can't, so if they do contract it they can quarantine immediately.
If kids are coming back to campus for the school year, there's absolutely no reason you can't play sports as well. At the extreme, just play sports in front of no crowds. I guess the only risk there would be spreading the virus from one school to another, but really at that point it's getting a bit ridiculous considering kids are on campus and most likely going to other campuses for road trips anyway. You're folling yourself if you think 18-23 yo kids are going to be hyper vigilant about masks too.
The one thing limiting the crowd would do would be to keep so many people from being on top of each other, which could spread things very fast. Barring another flare up of cases that gets really bad, I think sports will come back sooner rather than later... just not for live, in stadium viewership.
Here in upstate NY, it's not just the "kids" not complying to the mask edict Cuomo mandated, nor are they even close to following the social distancing/no crowds either. They can't even get the hospital personnel not to gather in one place.
I forgot sometimes when I’m talking to people then I’ll catch myself. I don’t shake hands right now we do elbow to elbow lol. I believe a lot of people just forget and isn’t paying attention. I do still believe we need to take safety precautions until we know the virus is gone.
Hawaii my man hope you are doing well and keeping safe out there brother. I agree we need to hit this stuff head on and keep our people that’s sick safe and the elderly safe and the dudes like myself keep doing what we do and wherever the chips fall they fall because if nothing else we do know the LORD told us we have to work and if you die doing it, it is what it is. I believe in trying to keep it safe but IMO we need to get back to doing what we do.
I'm not totally on one side or another, I'm just sick of the whole polarization thing. Liberals acting like conservatives want to open anything and everything tomorrow and conservatives acting like liberals want to hunker down for 5 years and never leave the house.
In truth most Americans realize we need to be careful with this virus, but we also need to get the economy going or that will really hurt a bunch of people too. I am just so tired of TV opinion shows that paint it like it's a binary choice and depending which side you are on the other side thinks you're an idiot.
I think most of all our leaders in government have done a great job. It’s easy to play Monday morning QB when you’re sitting on the sidelines watching. Now I do believe the proof is there that the last 4 presidents sold us out because they were scared to stand up to China. Doesn’t mean they are bad guys or didn’t do some good things but they were chicken chit when it come to China.
Hey Southern, all is well in Hawaii. We have relatively very few cases here and in fact we have no patients in house (at the moment)with Covid at the hospital I work at which is the largest in the state. Unfortunately our governor is still having a bit of a power grab and extended restrictions til the end of June. Although some things are starting to open I still can't get a haircut and it's been over 2 months. I have to agree with you about China and hopefully the pandemic was a huge eye opener and we can begin to stop the China dependency....but that starts to get political which I try to avoid engaging in. Hope all is well with the fellow board comrades.
@southern-psu-fan My neighbor is an in your face/personal space talker. I took the tractor over to rototill their garden. When I was done, I shut things down so we could talk. I stayed safely up on the tractor. He'd start talking and walking toward me, then he'd remember and do an about face. He'd start talking again, get wrapped up in his story and start edging toward me. The light would come on, he'd remember and do another about face. The scene kept repeating for close to 1/2 hr. It was pretty comical.
