I don't think I have many concerns at this point,  just a few questionable obersevations.  For one, I am not sure I like how Allar sits in the pocket and doesn't seem to be all that mobile. He did make several nice runs last year, showed us he can run, but he is not the runner Cliff was.  Is he going to be able to extend drives with his feet if needed?  I realize we have two RB's that are going to help here, but when we need HIM to do it, is he going  to be able to make that split decision and go?

The kid has an arm, he can make great throws and with more expereince as the starter, he will dial that in even more.  What I didn't see (that we saw with Cliff and Trace), is the ability to move in the pocket against the rush and still make that down field pass.

Hey, I realize he didn't get all THAT much time last year other than clean up duty for the most part. And I am certain we will see a different type of offense in 2023 tailored more towards his style.  I am just thinking ahead to the bigger games where I think Allar is going to have to be somewhat of a threat with his feet to extend drives and I am not sure he has that gear....yet.

Maybe my question at QB should be directed more towards the coaches adapting to what Allar brings to the table!! I don't know what WVU has returning, but outside of Delware, the first games are not standard "cupcake" teams expecially when you are breaking in a new QB. I am glad two of them, Iowa and WVU are home.  Illinois on the road is going to be one to keep an eye on.

GO STATE!!!!

6'5" 240 pds. That's a big QB. Hard to take down with a quick stride out of the pocket.  Blue and white should help give a better understanding in 2 months.

My hope is the OL keeps improving, because as you said he's less mobile than our previous QBs. The type of QB he is has a ton of potential, but he needs better pass blocking than Trace or Cliff would

He's not a runner so will need to process D schemes at the line and smartly move the ball based on what the D gives.

I don't think Ds will worry about him running unless he shows something.

Right now I’m just hoping he’s smart enough to sit in the pocket and not take the shots he did last year. Clifford had pretty good pass protection it was the run game that struggled in 2020 and 2021. I believe James Franklin and offensive coaches are all on the same page now and we’re going to be very good on offense. I’m looking forward to the spring game 😁

My concern is, assuming Allar is all he's cracked up to be, what happens if he goes down?

From what I've read, Beau Pribula is good and many on the team would be confident in him if he was the starter. It's just that Allar is better.

Hopefully that's correct, and if we need him it's not a big dropoff. Lots have compared his style and talent to McSorley.

Has Pribula taken a game snap yet?  How do you get him meaningful game time when Allar is gonna need all the PT he can get?  God I wish we had CV in our back pocket, lol.

Need to sign a grad transfer QB or hit the portal for an experienced QB that understands his role as an experienced player/mentor. Some other colleges with young QB’s have done it and I’m afraid we’re making a mistake by not doing the same.

Most starting QBs hardly take any game snaps until they win the job. Happens all the time... Some meaningful snaps would be nice, but it is what it is.

Allar’s passing ability will open up running lanes. Defense will be looking to shut down his passing. Allar will sneak in a few effective running plays each game.  The biggest question I have is Allar’s ability to read the defense.

I guess the best we can do at this point is keep our fingers crossed that Allar is what he is and stays healthy.  Otherwise, we'll get what we get with Pribula.

With the transfer portal the days of having a really good backup QB is probably over. With Pribula at least he’ll be a threat to run if he gets to play. He’s probably as good as most unproven QB’s out there that’s a backup.

Very true Southern... Getting your backup or 3rd string used to be just experience for when your starter left. Now it's an audition for possible portal suitors.

Playing time is almost a double edged sword... experience is great, but look too good and they will leave to start somewhere else.
