I'm glad to see this. I sure hope he stays healthy and is able to pass the reins on to his successor. Im excited to see Allar and Pribula battle things out in the coming years too. I think BP is going to surprise a lot of people. I hope we dont use him and lose him like we did Stevens and Levis.
@southern-psu-fan: I agree with that!! I'm not ready to get all giddy about CV just yet. After all, it was Rutgers that he beat. I certainly liked what I saw. But again, Rutgers.
Hmm, kinda shocked to read all your opinions - I was disappointed when I heard the news. He's had his time, wasn't all that successful, time to move on, next man up .... Just hope we don't lose another promising prospect because of this - what I hope is he gets beat for the starting job, there should be at least 3 that could do it.
I have mixed emotions, Like I said a while ago, I applaud him for his dedication and commitment to the team and the school. He has paid his dues and does reserve the right to to choose to stay or go. However, I would have rathered him move on and the team invest a year in developing a supporting staff around a young QB for the future. BUT AGAIN, until we get a viable, functioning, living, breathing O line, it really doesn't make a flippin difference who we have at QB, or RB!!!
I’ve been on the fence about this, but I think this is the better of 2 options. Either Clifford was staying or PSU probably looked to the portal for a 1 year starter until the young QBs were up to speed. If Clifford stays healthy, he can be an effective QB. He also has never complained or questioned anything while at PSU. He’s been all PSU the entire time. He will most likely be helpful mentoring the young QBs. You never know how someone will fit in when getting a transfer?
Lastly, I’ll reluctantly use Pitt’s QB Kenny Pickett as an example. He was a decent QB, not anything spectacular prior to this year. He decided to come back and had a really good season, played himself into a first round pick and a Heisman finalist. I’m not saying SC will be the same, but who knows? I wouldn’t have thought that about Pickett last year either. Perseverance pays off.
With this being said, if one of the young QBs looks good in camp and practice, they have to play them. No favoritism.
@lionbacker99 Roam said if Clifford comes back he might get a better shot at the NFL. I believe it was Roam that said it. If it makes Penn St better I’m for it and I believe this move will make us better. It’s definitely better than finding a QB in the transfer portal. I believe we need a stud QB to get us out of this slump we’ve been in and Clifford and Cx just might be the man. I’m not confident a true freshman QB can come in and do what Clifford can do. I do like what I’ve seen from Cx so far hopefully he gets some snaps against Arkansas to see a little more.
I'm good with it, stability of sorts; however if any of the younger QBs demonstrate they are the ready to step in, then play the best, kids are sitting like they used to, so it may be that Cliff gets sacrificed and so let be if that be the case.
I'm glad that he is coming back. I can't wait to see how he looks after another year of coaching by Yurcich (assuming Yurcich sticks around and addresses the issue of Franklin's micro managing)).
I'm neutral on this subject and am OK with whatever he decides. He's earned the right to choose but I'm not buying into the whole young guys need another year behind him argument.
Prog
Yep, I'm fine with him staying, just as long as it's a fair competition for QB next year. See what the Blue & White game shows us.
@been-there-ii: Yep, I agree. Keep the competition on the up and up and let the best man win.
If the OL is good I think Clifford has proven he can do well. If the OL is bad, there's not much anyone can do.
That said, I like that a room full of young players will have an experienced QB to learn from
