Welcome to big 10 football baby! Really makes you respect even more what James Franklin has accomplished since arriving at penn st. Man we’ve got a great coach!
To be fair, Frost took over a dumpster fire of a team in a VERY strong Big Ten. He will get them right, though I think probably year 2 or 3
I agree Roam, he’s a good coach. You’re right also about the big 10. I’ve been very critical of the big 10 in the past but IMO it’s as strong as any conference today and was the best conference by far last year. That’s why it really pisses me off that the big 10 champ has got the shaft from the scam committee the last 2 years. It’s a joke.
If Frost took over a dumpster fire when he took over Nebraska then Franklin took over a raging forest fire when he took over Penn State. What Franklin has accomplished in the time that he has done it, is nothing short of miraculous.
Not only is he a great football coach but he is a great recruiter of high character individuals. That is the secret to his success. He gets guys to play for him that buy into the family atmosphere and team-first mentality.
Well said!
Surely so, and what Franklin did was amazing. Lest we forget though, that the team had just gone 8-4 & 7-5 in the previous seasons. Now I know sanctions hit us hard after that, and Franklin achieving 7-6 the next two years while winning on the recruiting trail was nothing short of miraculous.
All I am saying is Nebraska was terrible under Riley. 6-7 their first year, 9-4 in a lucky/decent season and then a 4 win debacle that displayed how bad Riley was at recruiting any talent whatsoever. They have no playmakers on offense or defense whatsoever. Frost is playing a true freshman QB who he flipped out of pure necessity. I mean, it's bad there.
That was really my point. Two very bad situations, but very different ones. Franklin navigated his beautifully, really couldn't do a better job of it IMO. I think Frost will too, but it will take time... Nebraska is a complete rebuild.
Coach Frost is an honorable man and a good coach. In time, Nebraska will compete successfully with the best.
With a good coach Nebraska is a 9 win team! Can’t recruit like they use too. There’s a reason they’ve stunk for a while.
Recruiting is a challenge there.
You're right about JF, Southern. I remember when Joe was in the last stages of his career and I really wanted a young, charismatic coach who could recruit. We got JF, thankfully.
A big part of the reason they can't recruit like they used to is because their conferences have forced them to raise their academic standards. They used to be a warehouse for non-qualifiers, but they can't do that anymore.
