I think JF may have just coached his best year ever at Penn State!! 2016 was a great year, but what he did this year with this young group of kids is pretty amazing.  Let's remember some names from THAT 2016 team!

McSorley, Barkley, Godwin, Gesiki, Hamilton, Blacknall, Sanders, Bell, Cabinda, Allen, Haley, Miller, Oruwaryie, Scott and Sickles....all in the NFL!

To go 10-2 with this young team takes some good HC coaching....and you can twist this is any way you want, but JF is the Head Coach! Michigan is having a great run this year, but let's remember where they were at one point too.  2012-2014 they were 20-18 and Penn State was 22-15 and I am pretty sure Michigan didn't have the uphill battle Penn State had during that time.

Michigan  2015 - 2020....49-22 with zero 11 win seasons

Penn State 2015-2020....52-22 with three 11 win seasons

Harbaugh is 1 -6 in bowl games and Franklin is 2-4 in bowl games during the same period.

My point is, Harbaugh didn't face nearly the same type of program that Franklin did when he took over.  Last year was Harbaughs best season at Michigan and Franklin could very easily be right were Harbaugh is next season with all of the talent he is returning.  Penn State has a good team this year, they just aren't there yet.  What they did this year is close the gap and develop some great young kids who are just about to break things wide open in Happy Valley. Like everyone else, I am exited to see Allar take over at QB.  But we can't discredit what Clifford did for Penn State.  With out Cliiford, Penn State most likely would have at least 1 more loss and not being sitting on the possibility of making a NY6 bowl game this year....and winning it!

I know its been a long time since we played for a NC, but GA waited a long time too.  Be Patient, enjoy the bowl games and especially the Penn State Bowl game. Next year Penn State is going to be a factor!!!!

GO STATE!!! Nice 10-2 season finish!!

Manny Diaz deserves a lot of credit for the 10 wins.

Manny Diaz and his defense kept Penn State from being beaten while the offense struggled.

The offense had many opportunities to get ahead of both Michigan and Ohio State due to the performance of the defense.  Clifford and the offense squandered those opportunities.

@tae-buetel I agree Tae, Diaz stepped things up on defense and he is a big upgrade from Brent Pry. Pry did an ok job but when you get the studs James Franklin is recruited we see what a great defense should look like. That’s why James Franklin hired him he knew what he was gettin and James Franklin jumped all over him as soon as Miami let him go. I sure hope we keep him one more year.

I agree Mtnittany with pretty much everything you said brother!

Please stop already.  It took 3 quarters to put MSU away, lost to OSU, lost to Michigan.  Clifford is gone and now it's up to Allard. Don't expect some miracle QB situation next year. The scheduling isn't helpful in making the playoffs.  I wouldn't put 100 percent stock into Diaz. Some HC  job offer will come along and he'll be gone like a fart in the wind. Yes, it was a great 10-2 season.

But...Ol' Tighty goes to a couple PSU games a year and occasionally slips a "We" in there, so he's gotta be a fan of Penn State football.

Good season. Next year we may find out why Allar wasn’t crowned starter or we learn that JF is deficient in picking a starter. (Levis)

Next year the offensive line will be about like this year. The defense  may not be as good. The teams success will depend on developing two quality receivers (much better than this years group), one deep threat and one possession type. This assumes that Allar is all we hoped,

@sky Not sure if you can really compare this year's Allar with next year's Allar; post bowl practices, spring ball and next falls practices. I would hope he hones his skills in that period of time.

What's Kentucky's record? On top of that, I've read he might sit out the Whatever Bowl they're going to. Thanks, but I'll pass. (no pun intended)

Maybe Levis was close to equal but not an obvious winner.

I think the defense will be equal or better next year.  The LB crew will improve for sure

Offensive line must be equal or better.

Question is QB and receivers.  We are hopeful the QB develops thru the easy games and can get us over the hump.

Hopefully Fashanu and Scruggs stay for another year or the OL may need more help from the portal.

Lack of depth at LB is still a concern.

We also need a big deep threat WR which we possibly have in Harrison Wallace or Jaden Dottin but they need to step up in the off-season or we’ll need to go to the portal for that too.

@psujoe If Fashanu stays we are very lucky. I believe he projects as a 1st rounder, but man if he stayed...

I read that same thing about him being a first round pick. I’d have to guess he’s most likely gone and it would obviously be the right choice for him.
