I saw we scheduled a home and home with Syracuse for the 2027 & 2028 seasons. It got me thinking, what other regional teams do you think we should play? Or does it matter? I know we already schedule a good amount of regional patsies like Villanova, Delaware, Temple, MAC schools, etc.) but would you rather a bigger name in the east or just a big name nationally?
Personally, in today's world I think we should go out and keep scheduling SEC teams like we did with Auburn. More of them, less of these regional teams that aren't nearly as visible to recruits. If we were going more regional, I'd probably select teams like UNC, NC State, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Syracuse, Pitt, and Boston College. Outside of those schools, I have no idea who would be a big draw. At least those guys crack the rankings every now and then.
However, as I said I would love to see us go south. Even outside the SEC, get Clemson, FSU, and Miami to play. Yeah I brought up rankings, but it's more "what teams do recruits have eyes on". Those are Georgia, Alabama, Ole Miss, Florida, FSU, Clemson, Tennessee, Texas A&M, etc. Just my thought.
I’m with on going further for better games. I thought it was Great in 98-99 when Arizona came to Happy Valley and Oregon State came in 09 I think. Both games were beat downs on them teams. But playing PAC 12 teams was cool to watch. University of Arizona was 2nd in the country I think and we were 3rd.

Agreed, going west to play Oregon or USC would be a good idea too.
Going south & west seems good to me. Could get some interesting match ups as opposed to little east opponents. Also, playing the Golden Domers always gets everyone hyped.
40 min away from having my butt in the Car....er, soon to be renamed Dome. I'm in!
Might actually get to two PSU games in '28.

I would like to see Notre Dame again and would love to see the Dawgs visit as well.
Regional schools WVA just because that states awesome, VA because we owe them a beating after the Ficken debacle and VA-Tech because of the little recruiting rivalry we have at times with them. Going further south should be a priority just because of the exposure we’d get to the recruits down there but I really don’t see any reason for going into the northeast or to the west coast.
Prog
@southern-psu-fan That’s really not who I had in mind. Would much rather play a team like Miami, Ole Miss or Tenn.
All of the teams mentioned so far would be a home and away series. They would not replace the patsies because PSU needs the money that playing the patsies brings in. I wish we could have more than one home/away match up but the fans want home games.
@southern-psu-fan I would be down for that. I love it down there. I have a high school friend that lives in Kennesaw. So many nice bars and good places to eat !

II'd like to stop playing FCS schools though, yeah Villanova is cool but I don't really care. I'd rather play Temple, at least they are FBS.
I'd like to see us renew our rivalry with Pitt. I know that's not a popular opinion but you cant manufacture a rivalry like some are trying to do with OSU and the silly land grant trophy hasnt gained any traction at all. WVU would be a good series too.
@roaminglion Yep & like T-Hale suggests, go old school for a game or two a year. In my day, Syr was a pretty much guaranteed win for homecoming weekend and Pitt was as popular as We Are! with buttgers fans. Right Niccy Tight Shoes?
Sure did/do hate losing to Pitt though, kinda ruins the season for me.
If it makes you happy Southern, it'd ok by me, lol! Personally, I'd rather play Ga Tech or the Domers!
@rip I would like to play Pitt every year just like Georgia plays Ga Tech every year and play Ga Tech. I honestly believe it would improve recruiting if we played Ga Tech, Georgia, Ga Southern, Ga St and played in Atlanta every few years. This state is loaded with talent and I hate see SEC teams steal all these players away when Penn St could get some of ‘em. And on a selfish note I could go to some of these games if played around Atlanta lol
