Since he mentioned that this offense in 2022 will be notches above Jay Paterno’s let’s just assume it was Jay’s even though Galen Hall does deserve some of the credit. Brother, we ain’t good enough at QB or RB to be good as Jays offense from 2005-2012 so I don’t know what he’s talking about. MROB and D-Clark were beast and led Penn St to some of the best offenses we’ve ever had unless I missed something the last 2 years. I hope he’s right but I believe this dude may have been drinking when he wrote this lol. BTW we were 11-2 3 years ago so the bad offense only goes back 2 years. Again, I’m pulling for him I just don’t think Clifford is in the same ball park as MROB and D-Clark or McGloin but I will be pulling for him. I also know Tony Hunt was a better RB than what we have now but singleton might change that.

@been-there-ii  BT, I’m hoping after the 2022 season Clifford is the best QB to ever play at Penn St I’ll be his biggest cheerleader

Clifford was having a great season in 2021 until he got hurt in the Iowa game. He never fully recovered. I am hopeful that 2022 will be Clifford’s finest performance.

Loved this article, thanks for sharing, BT.  I believe the following quote says it all :

"For Penn State Football to fix its running game issues, James Franklin is going to have to keep his hands out of the offense. Period."

Amen, Amen, Amen!

Here we go again saying overall record means the offense was great... We were 11-2 in 2019 because we had the #8 ranked defense in college football. Not because of our #60 ranked offense.

They werent a bad offense, but they certainly weren't a great one either. There is more to evaluation than just record.

@roaminglion  I agree it was an ok offense but a heck of a lot better than the last 2 years. The 2017 was the best offense we’ve since James Franklin got to Penn St and 2016 was pretty dang good too. My point was Jay and Galen had very good offenses and I’m hoping Yurcich gets the offense going this year.

@rip

I don't think he is EVER in the MIDLLE of the offense.  Every time there is a TO, he is 10 yards away from the offense with his arms crossed.  Heck, at the Outback bowl, I was sitting right behind the team. During one of the TO's, he was standing a good 20 yards away from the Offense huddle with a clipboard that was upside down and facing the Arkansas sidelines.  All they needed was a good set of Binoculars and they could have read what it was JF had hanging around his neck!

I am not a fan of Cliff, but I am a fan of him this year just because he does have experience.  He has made every possible mistake that a QB could make, so hopefully this is the season where he just gets it right! I think Penn State has enough returning talent to have a very good season. They should be able to start out 5-0 with the schedule that they have.  Auburn on the road will be a test, but its not like they are some powerhouse team.  They lost their last 5 games, but they did take Bama into OT.

I know last season was a bust after such a good start.  But like it or not, Penn State still brings in great talent and unlike some programs, Penn State doesn't need 2 or 3 years to reload. They almost always have enough talent to be competitive and good and I think this season is one of those GOOD ones. I am completely pinning this season on Clifford. If he wants to go out with a bang, well here is his chance!!

GO STATE!!

Franklin is not a rookie. He has been coaching football his whole professional career. He has been a head coach at 2 institutions. I think what we have seen is what we will get. One question out there is with such a great draft year, why only 7-6. That’s a fair question.

Last season defense was good. Offense sputtered. Record was 7-6. “There is more to evaluation than just record.”

I feel some of that was staged in my honest opinion.  Perfectly fine one drive and hobbling around on the next drive.  In a room full of Nittany fans one of them happened to be in the medical field.  Pointed out a few things about injuries. Iowa had that game in the bag from the start of the clock.

Not in the middle of the offense????  Franklin is the one who repeatedly cried "We have got to establish the running game".  This influenced MY's play calling and it was obvious in what we saw on the field.  He has to let MY call his game and not force the issue because he want's something that isn't working.

@rip  If the run ain’t working, pass, pass, pass until the run game opens up but when the defense knows you’re going to keep running they’ll keep stacking the line of scrimmage. Yurcich is a passing guru James Franklin needs to let him do his thing which I believe he will this year. With Clifford coming back I’m beginning to feel pretty good about the season and I’m going to go ahead right now and predict an 11 win season. You heard it first here Mr BK 😁

@blushoes  absolutely! There’s a very good chance we start 5-0. Get to playing with confidence and this year can be a good year. By game 6 our new starters should be ready to go. 2022 is a very friendly schedule plus we have a good football team we just need the coaches to do their part.

@southern-psu-fan

hoping you are correct.  Last season these guys let me down.  I ended up laying on the couch too often and falling asleep.

Look, I told you I am not a Cliff fan. But I am willing to give him a shot and support him as our QB this season.  Quite a few of you posted some good reasons as to why Cliff is not performing to a high level and some of you made some very valid points.  Because of this, I am agreeing Cliff needs to be the starter and given a fair shake.  Can he win 11 games?  I think he has enough experience and talent beside him to do so.  Has he learned from his mistakes?  This is the question that will determine another 7 win season vs 11+.

GO STATE!

@mtnittanylion  we know Clifford can win 11 games because we watched him do it his first year as a starter. As for the coaches, they don’t need to learn anything except have their heads in the game and stop worrying about contracts and stadium repairs. James Franklin needs to hire somebody to worry about that stuff while he worries about what goes on on the field. When James Franklins heads in the game ain’t to many coaches out there better. Hopefully we got all the other stuff out of the way and we get the real James Franklin back this year and if I’m right which I believe I am we’ll get 11 wins this year. I’m starting to get a little excited lol

Whats the word for it when media types are exaggerating 'best', 'top QB'.  I mean on any given Saturday I may watch 10 teams play and hear 4 different best QB's, LB, fill in the blank.  Today there are probably 25 teams in America that 'have a chance at the playoffs', are greatly improved....

Writers have to write, talking heads have to talk.

I get more reality listening to you guys.

He will be a great QB behind Alabama's offensive line, ours?  Yet to be seen....

@underlion Gotta get the clicks and you get more readers if you exaggerate a little, make it sound like your team has a chance. We'll see in a few months.
