No...Thank God...In fact it has decreased down to almost zero covid-19 deaths...Mind you I serve the 5 boro's, Westchester and Rockland counties primarily...The emails I have been receiving from the NYC health dept. and the CDC have us preparing for a 2nd wave about the middle of October thru April of 2021 that is going to be worse than what we faced in March, April and May...I know the military will be back the end of September and they left all of the tents, refrigeration trucks and protocols in place at the OCME in NYC...From all indications this thing is far from over...From my perspective the shutdown was very effective at controlling this thing...NYC and the metropolitan area is a unique situation from the rest of the country as the people here are really clustered together as the city is built upwards and not a sprawling city like Los Angeles is...So we faced a far more complex and difficult task to control this thing than rural America...It spread here VERY fast whereas it will hit rural America in much different way but it will eventually make it's way throughout the country unless a vaccine is developed that is safe and effective in short order....
Good news FD, the vaccine trial I told you about is moving forward and is now finalizing the 30,000 participants. My mother is actually one of them. The target for starting the trial is mid July.
Also, Astra-Zeneca is already in a final stage study for their vaccine, developed at the University of Oxford. Brazil just signed a contract to produce 60 million doses.
@the-funeral-director Thanks need to talk to someone who knows, I can't believe anything on any news, one side says one thing, the other says the opposite. I wish they would both give the news and let us decide what we feel, not tell us how to feel.

Just my opinion, but I think those organizations do a pretty good job of it...
- Associated Press: I think the AP does a pretty good job reporting the facts and sticking to verbiage that stays out of the opinion realm - https://apnews.com/
- Reuters: I also find them to be fairly neutral in their coverage as well - https://www.reuters.com/
- BBC: Lastly, I sometimes check out the this British news service to get a good international view of what's going on: https://www.bbc.com/
@roaminglion They do but I am saying about broadcast news, ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, and FOX. To me they are opinion shows not news
when I’m driving around in my truck I listen to NPR on the radio and I believe they try and tell the truth they just get democrats and some Republicans on their show that won’t tell the truth about anything. I know a lot of people don’t like NPR but their hands are tied because you can’t get the truth out of most politicians especially democrats. Chuck Schumer tells the truth most of the time but famed news media don’t give him much time anymore because he does tell the truth. Ole chuck is another one people don’t like but I do like him I just don’t worship him. I believe most democrats especially on the left want Chuck out because he’s not nutty enough for ‘em.
I have been in Chuck Schumer's company many times, I have also been in Mike Bloomberg's company on several occasions and there is no comparison between the 2. Schumer ALWAYS makes a point to introduce himself to EVERYBODY and have a chat with them. Bloomberg comes in the back door and leaves ASAP out the same back door. Even though Schumer and his family are Jewish he educated all of his girls at a Catholic School. I don't always agree with Chuck but I respect him because he always makes himself available and never ducks anybody at public events. To me Bloomberg is a little weasel and I will just leave it at that.
Roam I pray several times a day that you are correct and this vaccine is ready ASAP...PLEASE keep the encouraging news coming...

You are very right, which is why I stick to those news sources.
I think if more people realized what they were watching was actually opinion and not news, we'd probably be in a much better place right now.
The really sad thing is the fact that the most honest way to get the news is from the BBC. I use the same news sources as you do Roam because I am sick and tired of the agenda's and the lies. Nobody just gives the facts anymore.
When I tell people I watch FoxNews and CNN from time to time they wonder... but then I let them know it's not where I get my news, but rather I want to see with my own eyes what agenda the primetime shows are pushing.
Honestly though, when I see CNN and FoxNews during the day I feel they do an adequate job with the news. It's actually not that bad. But when it gets closer and closer to primetime the messages really start to skew.
One person that I do routinely watch on CNN is Fareed Zakaria. I think he does a wonderful job talking about international politics.
Oh good grief, he doesn't learn from previous mistakes. The U.S. leads the world in confirmed cases and deaths and he still says stuff like this.
And in the middle of a pandemic he is trying to get the Supreme Court to rule the ACA unconstitutional and dissolve it leaving over 23 million Americans without health insurance. That would be ok if he had a reasonable replacement, but he doesn’t. He’s had 4 years to come up with something, but he’s got nothing.
