#1 Barkley
#2 LJ
#3 Franco Harris baby
#4 Curt Warner
#5 K-Carter
this was a tough top 5. I’m ranking these guys on how good they were not on how many years they may have started. Royster was a good RB but far from the top 5 we’ve ever had and he holds the record for the most yards. This is my new top 5. I’ve already seen enough of Barkley in the NFL and this is his first year lol
I loved watching Arron Harris run the ball.
I would think Lydell Mitchell and John Cappelletti would rank right up there.
I think Blair Thomas gets overlooked for how good a college back he was, due to his perception as a flop in the pros. The Jets used his talents horribly, and a series of injuries derailed his career. Only PSU running back to this day to run for 1300+ yards twice in his career.
Can't argue with any of those guys as being Top 5. Should also consider Ennis, Matt Shuey (ask Walter Payton). Mitchell was the TD machine that Franco blocked for. Cappy was so dominant in 73. Carried the undefeated team.
Lenny Moore needs to be in the conversation too.
Here is Bob's 2 cents:
1) Cappelletti
2) Saquon Barkley
3) Larry Johnson
4) Blair Thomas
5) Lydell Mitchell
Now if we made this a Top 10 list - have to put in KiJana Carter, Curtis Enis, Lenny Moore, Franco Harris, and , um, hmmm, okay a top 9 list.
I remember one of the team linebackers talking about Cappy and saying something to the effect that when Cappy ran the ball it was punishing to the defensive guy trying to tackle him as he just ran over defensive guys.
It was a tough top 5 to rank. I hope I’m putting Boobie in the top 5 next year psu61 lol
No Sanders?
What about Kijana Carter?
I have K-Carter 5th but if somebody has him #1 how could you argue lol. Had Carter not got hurt I could very easily see him being #1. I just believe you really see how good guys are when they go on to the next level but there’s always exceptions and Carter is one.
Lenny Moore is in the HOF. Name another PSU running back thats in the hall. He played when freshmen werent allowed to play and the seasons were much shorter. I dont think bowl game stats were included back in those days either.
Show the old guys some love gentlemen.
I’m going to add D.J. Dozier but only because I met him on more than one occasion well after his playing days and I think he’s a pretty cool guy. Also, Franco Harris was in a few of my classes and afterwards I had some connections with him in his post football days. So ya, my short list that have nothing to do with PSU football.
One of my favorite runs is when DJ ran in for a TD against the Cain’s in the N.C. game. I was the only one in the room jumping for joy lake lol. Time flies lake that was 1987 lol
