The schedule ain’t any tougher last year than this year we just had a coache and QB that needed fired and benched after the ND game. Jim Knowles should’ve been fired when James Franklin was shown the door and had Terry Smith fired him we beat Iowa and Indiana. I know Terry was in a tough spot but I bet he’s kicking his own ass for not letting Jim Knowles go when James Franklin was fired that dude was a freaking disaster. Remember ole southern was calling for him to be fired just like I was calling for James Franklin’s head after the ND game. Best defense all year was the Clemson game them dudes were ready to play. Shit defense from Jim Knowles about cost us the Rutgers game. He made Rutgers look like Georgia 😂
Right on, I was never a JF fan from the beginning I thought that Rhule was the right choice. But it’s history now. We also had a weird AD at the time who was fixated on JF. The JF extension was an abomination and led us to where we were last year.

If we're worried about not being able to pay players 60 to 70 million dollars a year.... then the sport is in big trouble. Eff these players for all I care, they are ruining college sports. I'll go watch the NFL if I want to see professional players.
At some point, some schools need to take a stand. Right now it just looks like all the schools are falling all over themselves to take it up the a$$ from some entitled prick who has never even played a snap in college yet. That's not good.

Allegedly he's got vertigo, makes it pretty tough to play a sport where you head gets shaken up every play. I've got it, some days I can't even wash my hair w/o wanting to puke. Or just tipping your head the wrong way can make the world spin. Hopefully he'll recover, but I'm thinking, if he's still got it, he's not playing anywhere.
I’m getting a little different story, more like an emotional issue rather than a physical issue. Who knows,but we should pursue him nevertheless. If we don’t, JF will pick him up in a heartbeat. Give him reasonable nil and see if it works out.
@roaminglion is it possible for college football to get back to scholarships only again? Seems like Penn St could say we’re not paying players we only give scholarships to play. I’ve always been for players getting money but this has gotten out of hand. Like you said, we already have the NFL
No, not possible now. We’ve entered a new era that I believe is not sustainable. But it must brake by its own weight.
@southern-psu-fan Technically possible, but Congress has to grant the NCAA anti-trust exemptions to get there. At that point they can be more heavy handed and really lock all this down.

Unfortunately the toothpaste is out of the tube Southern...I don't think it will ever go back to the old system...As far as the money goes nothing will stop them until they run out of money...Whether you like it or not this is professional football...Just a different league...This league has yearly free agency and no salary cap...I am going to predict that if nobody does anything college football players will end up making more money than the professional players in the NFL because there is no salary cap...I don't blame the players one bit for taking the money...They are the product and who the people are going to see play...This is why every major sport has a salary cap with one exception and that is baseball...The owners can't control themselves and if an owner wants to win and has the money he is gonna spend it...As the great Pete Rose said over 40 years ago when he signed the most lucrative contract in professional sports at that time...I didn't hold a gun to anybody's head...I didn't force anybody to give me this money, beer distributorships and car dealerships to play baseball...They all lined up and were willing to throw money at me...This is the new reality with big time college sports...You will soon see a bigger chasm between the haves and have nots...I find it puzzling that a program and University that are willing to spend billions of dollars in stadium renovations and facility upgrades would then allow themselves to get out spent by almost double for the top players who they need to fill that stadium they just spent a billion dollars on...I would love to know what the NIL number was for every playoff team since the NIL started just to be able to do an analysis on how much the money had an effect on being competitive...Without knowing I would be willing to say that there is a correlation between how much money was spent and making the CFP...Without any type of a financial cap on rosters it is going to be interesting to see where this goes...As far as the argument that you are paying a kid who never took a snap in college football that is the case in every sport...You have scouts and personnel people who evaluate all of these players...In baseball you have international scouts and teams have international developmental programs...You have 15 and 16 year old foreign players primarily from the dominican republic signing million dollar deals routinely anymore...Major College sports has become professional sports now...These athletes are being paid to play which is the definition of being a professional athlete...This is going to spread to high school sports and all the way down to peewee leagues...I know here in New York it is going on as far down as the little league level...They are paying kids to play on their travel teams now...I guess the bottom line on what I am saying is that the current Penn State Football Programs NIL budget ain't gonna get it done...Right, Wrong or whatever you are gonna have to pay to play in this current environment or you ain't going to be a winning program or even competitive...There is no need to wonder why all these kids from Pennsylvania are going to play elsewhere...I know the answer...Money...There is no need to wonder why Penn State hasn't gotten any big name recruits to come in...I know the answer to that one too...Money...I for one don't blame the players one bit...I think they should get every nickel they can...
One a side note,in the NHL draft Gavin McKenna was taken #1. He was finally starting to show his potential in the last month of the season. Such a shame we don’t get him for another year.
@the-funeral-director One thing FD, the players aren't the product people come to see in college football. That is what everyone has forgotten. People fill Beaver Stadium because they want to see Penn State, not the random players that come and go.
Everyone knows going in these aren't the best teams or the best players. Those guys play in the NFL. They come to cheer on their school.
College coaches and Presidents know this. I think Congress will eventually pass anti-trust exemptions and let the NCAA get somewhat back to something that resembles a non professional league.

Chaz reportedly was getting $2M from Tennessee before release. Tennessee has declared the transfer invalid. I don’t think he is free agent, but PS might still have the rights to Chaz. So he either plays for PS or waits for the December portal. I never saw something like this before Does anyone know what the situation is?

I don't think anyone knows what's going on right now. Uncharted territory which will probably be decided in the Supreme Court before it's all settled.
You are 100% correct Roam...Well I would argue that there wasn't a percentage of people that came to the games to see Barkley and the other great players that have come through that storied program...For arguments sake I will grant you your point and they come there for the University and to see Penn State no matter who is playing...I will argue that if your product on the field isn't winning you will see a lot less people in the stands...Great Players = winning...My personal opinion is if the program is getting outspent by nearly double by it's competitors for players the odds of them putting a winning team on the field diminish greatly...This fan base isn't accustomed to mediocre seasons...They lose all 3 of their marquee games this season you are going to hear some commotion from the fan base...That is all I am going to say...I don't want to get into the weeds about all of this...As the system stands now big money is being thrown around and my guess is you will find that most of the teams that end up in the CFP will be the teams with the larger payrolls...I am curious what the correlation is to NIL budget to where these teams stand in the pre season rankings and how that NIL budget correlates with the teams in the CFP...All I know is that I am not feeling too good about where we stand with the NIL right now...
Exactly why antitrust exemptions would fix most of this. Can't outspend anyone if there is a cap to what you can spend. Also, punishments have teeth because lawsuits won't work (for the most part). At that point, the best players are leaving for the NFL because the money has largely dried up and it's much more lucrative to go pro. Next man up, the fans don't care.
