Penn State is a wrestling school. Top notch wrestling program. Can't say that for football. You know we are regressing when Minnesota becomes prime time white out game. If we lose the opener we are in for a long long season. Our best bet is to let this season ride while we bite our cheeks and tongue. 2023 should be much more enthusiastic as we use the talent of top 10 recruiting.
Lmbo…we ain’t going to lose the first game! 11 or more wins are on the way! Let’s have a great 2022 season before we talk about the great 2023 season. You are right about Penn St also being a top notch wrestling school
11 or more wins are on the way and this is the reason why. I believe all the coaches will be on the same page this year and good things will happen.

No. The reason Minnesota is a primetime game is Ohio State falls during the World Series and our game is of Fox, so it won't be a night game. We don't play any other big names at home this season, other than maybe if you consider Michigan State a big name... though that's at the end of the season and you don't really want to save a white out for the last game.
PSU has the players to win 10+ games this year.
Does he say if they win the first three games they have a chance of going 10 and 2? But at least 2 of the first 3 are 'toss ups' so he is saying we have a chance of 9 and 3. Or maybe he is saying 9 wins +/- 1 win. OK, I'll buy that.
Hey, we have a pretty good Volleyball program, Womens Soccer, Lacross and don't forget Fencing. Womens Basketball has dropped off since we ran off Portland.
Penn St is known for being a great football team and they are elite and have been since the 60’s. They just happen to be the best wrestling program today. Texas is also elite but that doesn’t mean both teams are playing elite football today. The reason Texas and Penn St aren’t playing elite football is because of coaching!
36 years since last title. How is that elite. We are at the bottom of big ten when it comes to conference titles let alone national titles.
@blushoes only one team can win the NC! Penn St is an elite team it’s James Franklin job to get the NC’s won just like it’s Slick Nick’s
We’re nowhere close to being elite nor have we been serious NC contenders since the 90’s. As Joe once said “you need to lower your expectations!” We are what we are which is good at times but never great and for the last couple years the product on the field has been poor to mediocre.

Elite is in the eye of the beholder! Personally, I really dislike the term. Just my opinion. I'd much rather say "man, that's a great team".

While I agree that we are not elite to say we weren't serious contenders since the 90s is a bit over the top... considering in 2005 we were one play away from being undefeated, and in 2016 we were literally passed over for being in the playoff when many thought we should have been.
@southern-psu-fan In the 21st century the Big 10 only has one elite team, and that is Ohio State. The same can be said for the big 12, and that team is Oklahoma. Neither Penn state nor Texas are considered elite teams in those conferences, let alone nationally.
@roaminglion Texas and Penn St have everything they need to be elite the coaches just ain’t gettin it done. When I say elite I mean you have everything you need to contend for a NC just like Alabama and Ohio St. we also had a shot on 2008 things just didn’t go our way.

Ummmmm we’re not anywhere close to being in the same boat as Texas.
Is Penn State an Elite Football Program?
1) Ranked #8 in ALL TIME wins
2) Ranked #10 in Bowl Game Appearances
( 2 less than Ohio State and 2 more than Michigan )
3) Ranked #6 in Most Bowl Game WINS
( That puts them ahead of Ohio State and Michigan in Bowl Game Wins )
4) 1 of only 27 teams to win an AP title game
5) 7 bowl games in the last 8 years with 3 being a MAJOR BOWL game
( Covid year was the only year they didn't go and probably could have )
6) Won a Big 10 title in the last 6 years
7) WINNING ALLTIME COACH in JVP
They haven't won a National Title since 1986, but then again neither did Georgia until last year. Hopefully Penn State brings one home in the next two years. Regardless, I would say Penn State ranks right up there with the best of the best. Ranked #8 in All Time wins, #10 in Bowl Game Appearances and #6 in Most Bowl game wins???????? Yeah, I would say Penn State and Elite can be used in the same sentence!!
GO STATE!!!!
@mtnittanylion exactly right brother! Penn St is part of the big dawgs!
Since joining the Big Ten we are 5th in conference championsips.
Ohio State has 14
Wisconsin has 6
Michigan has 6
Penn State has 4
Michigan State and Northwestern have 3
That's not elite, not even close. Michigan State ties us for conference championships if they win 1 more and has been to a playoff. I doubt you'd call them elite, or Northwestern for that matter. Would you call Wisky elite? How about Michigan? I stand by my comment, they only elite team in the Big Ten is Ohio State. Having the POTENTIAL to be elite doesn't make you elite, it just shows how much you're wasting that potential.
Exactly what I was saying. James Franklin is wasting Penn States potential by going 11-11 the last 2 years. Penn St has the potential to compete for championships every year. Mtnittany stats are elite James Franklin just ain’t coaching at an elite level the last few years, that’s his fault but I do believe he’ll get back on track this year.
Penn State is Elite!! They just aren't winning National Titles, but hey, maybe they win the 10 in a row and that will be that!!! LOL
As of now we are at the Illinois, Indiana, Northwestern, Rutgers level. Says a few words about the program and how it regressed.
