I read where no one from Alabama or K-State will opt out of their bowl game. Will Anderson said it was about commitment to his team mates.

Washington wasn't going to play regardless due to a season ending injury.  Porter, on the other hand, wish he would play, but Penn State will be ok w/o him.

The game of college football has changed, so embrace it and see it where it goes.  Ain't changing back anytime soon, too much money being thrown at these kids. And when it is all said and done, the ALMIGHTY DOLLAR wins! And you surely can't blame the players for this one!

Not quite opting out, but Alabama has 11 guys hitting the portal, thus not playing.

What I hope is the new NCAA President can get some rational rules around this whole thing. IMO, I hate the December signing day. It's too soon, should move it back to February. Sure, early commits can still enroll but a December signing day is just too much for coaches. Preparing for bowls/playoffs, new hires having 1 week to keep a class together, etc. etc.

Put in guard rails for the portal too, specific times you can enter you name and when you can sign/announce where you are going. Also, make a full blown dark period. Like for all of June, no one is allowed to talk to anyone. Maybe coaches aren't even allowed to be in the facilities. Just make it a level playing field where everyone just gets a full month of downtime. No football, no recruiting, nothing. It's after spring, and early enough that fall practices haven't started yet. Just give people some time to recharge.

@brownale Correct. Just made note of the amount of players hitting the portal for Ala. Our esteemed troll used to speculate on there being some festering hidden reason and/or player unrest when PSU would lose 4 or 5 transferring.

I'm afraid it's too late, Roam.  The barn door is wide open and the new guy ain't gonna be able to put the genie back in the bottle.  Did you hear the latest where several coaches are even complaining about "tampering" going on?

Several sides to the portal/opting out. 1) Academics, 2)Thinking You Can Go Pro and 3) Bird in hand is better than two in the future. I highly doubt any player is jumping in for academic reasons, unless wanting to pick up a scholarship to finish out a graduate degree. Therefore, take it for what is (money driven) and let the model take the shape of primarily meeting goal #2 and #3. Traditional collegiate football is done; it eroded and evolved to the current status. Might as well try to work out a win/win for players and programs.

Retrospectively I don't know that any payment model would have preempted the current state of affairs b/c at some point a player/family/society, believes it still isn't enough, and change occurs.

In the end there really is no solution to the problem, only trade offs.

Smith Vilbert has been cleared to play. Wonder what he did to get a year in detention.

@southern-psu-fan Yeah, I tried to post the Vilbert article too, but got rejected for it being "spam". lol And then got thrown out of the Nits site entirely. I'm guessing Cave turned up the spam filter when those jamokes were posting their nonsense.
