No surprise to me
Keyvonne Lee would be my guess to enter the portal next.
To good of a QB to be #2 next year. He can probably play at another power 5 school right away like Levis did. Can't blame him at all with the Portal option available now.
No surprise.
One problem with anointing someone as a starter before the season even begins and the portal accentuates that.
IMO, Franklin sort of pushed CV out the door. Apparently Jimmy's betting the farm on Allar. Sure hope it pays off. I would have hedged my bets. All he had to do was give CV some more game reps along with what he gave Allar. Don't commit to Allar as the starter. Go into the spring drills with an open competition for the job. Even if Allar wins out, he'd be better because of CV pushing him. Who knows, CV might have given him a run for the job. Anyway, what's done is done. Wish CV well wherever the portal takes him.
I hope he transfers to GT. We gotta new coach Brent Key baby the dude I was wanting. We also need a QB
No surprise.

To be fair, the media and fans did that... not the coaching staff. He was the backup this year, but I don't think Franklin ever said that meant he was the definitive starter next year.

IMO someone has to be the backup... and Allar was it. Can't keep swapping guys in the role just because you want to spare someone's feelings about the QB competition next year. I've seen it when some guy was a backup the year before, but they gave it to someone else the next year. Franklin never stated at any point that Allar was the definitive starter next year.
Actions speak louder than words, Roam. All Franklin had to do was work CV into the mix a little bit more.

Why? What team do you know of who tries to get the 3rd string QB work because they might feel bad and leave? Joe Burrow was the backup in 2016 for Ohio State. The next year he was 3rd string. There was no guarantee he'd remain the backup just because he was the year before.
Michigan replaced McNamara, who went to the CFP... with McCarthy this year. Because he was better. He won the job, even though he never sniffed the starting position the year before. If a kid doesn't want to compete, or doesn't think he'll win... that's on him. Franklin shouldn't have to rip Allar out of the 2nd string position just to give the 3rd stringer some snaps. You play who won their position battle, and Allar won the backup position.
Allar being the backup this year didn't mean that he'd be the starter next year. Tommy Stevens was the backup in 2018, he was given ample playing time, and he left. Clifford was 3rd string and hardly played a snap. Clifford was the starter in 2019.
IMO, he didn't have to; he played DA and didn't play CV. Kids read into that, and CV didn't read that DA was getting game reps to see if he was good enough to be the starter or back up; he got the reps to prep for being the starter next year. JMO.No surprise.

Being a HC now means a lot of different things and being able to manage players in a very different way due to SM and the portal.
We've got two really good RBs, don't be surprised if something doesn't happen there if one feels he got slighted; that's gonna be an interesting play out over Spring ball and next season' it's all about patience, expectations and opportunities.
@psu61 IMO CV would have left even if he got some snaps, I doubt he left because he didn't get 10 snaps in garbage time.
I don’t believe Allen or Singleton will leave because most teams use 2 RB’s. I think both RB’s are happy on their playing time. I thought CV looked pretty good the snaps I’ve seen him play but the coaches watch’em in practice everyday and maybe he’s just not good enough.
True Roam. I've essentially said for the past year one way or another that it would not be a surprise for him to leave via portal or graduation ( I think he graduates this year but could be wrong). Most kids today at a high level or not readily going to sit, neither are their parents. By the end of two years of practicing, learning, and sitting; a player is either ready to play or if wants to play move on.@psu61 IMO CV would have left even if he got some snaps, I doubt he left because he didn't get 10 snaps in garbage time.
That may be the case, but, there's been a few players in the past who have sat b/c they weren't good enough, but played better than a the starter. IMO, Hack was a good example of that... Sometimes a player isn't ready b/c of the mantra, he hasn't put his time in, those days are basically gone and coaching has to deal with that. The fact is, is that the coach and the player can have different views and expectations on that mantra. IMO, the portal, NIL and culture are the drivers.I don’t believe Allen or Singleton will leave because most teams use 2 RB’s. I think both RB’s are happy on their playing time. I think the coaching staff did not believe that CV had the raw talent to take PSU to the promised land (national title). If DA with all his positives cannot, then it may be a long time before PSU gets a shot with another QB. Per JF's tendency to stick with the incumbent for his whole career, DA will start for the next 3 years unless major injury. Slim chance of getting another blue chip QB until the 2025 class.
IMO if CV believed he had a fair shot at competing for the starting job in 2023, he would have stayed. By giving Allar virtually all the PT in "garbage time" this year it sent him a message to the contrary. If he had a fair shot, he may have stuck around even if Allar won the job. That would have given us a capable backup. What do we have now? If Allar is injured or doesn't pan out, we're up sheets creek without a QB. There is nobody else on the roster with game experience and I don't think you'll get one from the portal knowing Allar is the annointed man!

It only sent the message that Allar was the backup, nothing more. Allar earned the backup position, what would it say to him that he needed to step back from the position he earned in practice because the other guy might leave?
I'm not saying Allar needed to step back. He should still be the 1st one in as the backup, but there was ample time to work CV in after Allar did his thing. It's no different than developing depth at any other position. 2nd stringer (back up) goes in first, followed by the 3rd stringer.
I gotta say that I totally disagree with that; it sent the clear message that DA is the back up that will be starting next year; no way around that dance; hell, just about anyone that I've watched a game with or talked to have essentially said the same.IMO if CV believed he had a fair shot at competing for the starting job in 2023, he would have stayed. Y’all know I like what I seen in CV the times I’ve watched him play but Yurcich and James Franklin ain’t seeing it in him that’s why they let him walk. I liked the kid but we gotta trust the coaches on this. They might see something in another QB on the team?
SPF you are the most optimistic fan and supporter; IDK man....I think you could convince a dead man that he wasn't dead and to get up and walk again, lol!Y’all know I like what I seen in CV the times I’ve watched him play but Yurcich and James Franklin ain’t seeing it in him that’s why they let him walk. @psu61 If the dead guy's name is Lazarus, I'm gonna get a whole new respect for SPF
