Reportedly, Smith is now receiving interest from the UConn Huskies and the Memphis Tigers to fill their coaching vacancies. All of a sudden, it is looking more and more possible that Penn State will have to dip well below its usual level for the team's next head coach.
The whole thing is a shit show, plain and simple; might as well throw in caustic and divisive; what HC would want to walk in and work with the AD that orchestrated that tune?
I agree Kraft looks to be a MORON as well. He may have sunk the program with just his EGO. Well at least Daboll’s name is still swirling around. Saban did say he would be an excellent choice for us, so there is that.
I think just as important are the questions, why?
- Why is the AD still involved?
- Why didn't the BOT not have a pulse on this? My assumption.
- Why was JF fired when he was fired with no apparent viable line up? I'd had that job locked up which means it wouldn't have been an overnight decision.
- Why wasn't there a viable contingency plan? No indication otherwise.
- Why is there no coach signed as of date? This is an assumption.
- Why would any player want to stay or sign on with the shit show?
- Why would any player want to play in a bowl game?
Man, I don't know, I'm just a dumbass couch sitter who has been around for a while.
I think all of this could have been handled better. I just don’t think we can keep waiting and waiting. And I don’t want to be CRAP for the next 5+ years because of this debacle.

Cant answer all of them but i can give you some insight on the first 3.
1) The AD is still involved because that is his job. He knows that if he screws this up, he's gone. The stove hasnt been turned on just yet but the gas is all hooked up.
2) The board does have a pulse on this; it was just PK's decision to fire him. He had to wait for the green light from the BOT.
3) There were some disturbing things that came to light about JF during the Lynch trial back in the spring of 2024. Because of that, and the fact that the University had to pay out over $5M in the settlement; lets just say the clock was ticking and JF was a marked man*. The plan was to fire him after the season last year but they couldnt fire a coach that was one win away from the college championship because of the message that would send to other coaching candidates.
Now, along comes 2025 and the pompous ass has the audacity to ask PK for a raise and when he's denied his agent doubles down and goes behind PK's back and solicits the BOT. The settlement and the behind the back bullshit were the impetus of this whole affair. PSU needed a reason to fire him, the three game skid was the reason and the BOT pretty much told PK to pull the trigger.
JF knew going into summer practice that he was on thin ice and barring a miracle, he was done in SC.
*After enduring the scrutiny from the whole Sandusky mess,and seeing what came to light from the Lynch trial; MANY former donors approached the BOT and assured them once JF was gone, the money would start flowing in again. There was no way they wanted him associated with the university any more.

@psujoe The dude is 16-27 against top 25 but that’s not bad considering it’s iowa St that team was absolute garbage when he took it over. I don’t know much about Iowa St except they usually played Iowa early in the year and they beat Iowa a few times if I remember correctly, they definitely give Iowa a hard time and Iowa is king of that state in football. I’ve heard good things about this coach homer. Give this dude the resources Penn St has and we might have something here buddy. I know it’s the big 12 but it’s not like he had Oklahoma talent this dude has definitely done more with less. This is a dude we all can get behind and I’m sure there’s a few players that he can bring with him. We gotta get a coach that can bring some good football players with him. I’ve looked up a few things about him and I’m kind of excited if we can get the guy plus our wrestling coach is from there and he’s been there for a good bit of time so hopefully if we land this dude he’ll want to stay put. I would’ve rather had Hartline but this dude is a better get than Bob Chesney this guy actually has a proven track record of winning at a school that hasn’t done a whole lot of winning so really he’s actually a better get than both. I’d rather get somebody from Iowa St and kick Ohio St and Michigan ass than stealing one of their coaches and doing it. It will just feel better. Hopefully we can trade Jim Knowles in on him lol
@southern-psu-fan Sounds like this coach search might be over before the conference championship games are played. Serious negotiations going on between PSU and Campbell pretty much proves there is no deal with any other coach and that Kraft has totally effed this search up.

@psujoe soon as I heard the Lincoln Riley and BYU news I knew right then there was nobody. Dude tried to sneak that BYU coach in on everybody. Smh on that one thank god it didn’t happen. To be fair the BYU coach is great for BYU but would’ve been a disaster for Penn St imo. Penn St is in a lot of trouble right now not having a coach. Players, Fans, ulumni, letterman everybody needs to pull together and get behind Matt Campbell if we can land him. This is a home run get imo
