@been-there-ii we get the right coach I believe we can win 9 or more games next year which ain’t bad considering it’s a rebuilding year. Dabeor or Manny gives us the best option to win because these 2 coaches will bring a few players with ‘em and that’s what we need right now. Terry and Daboll can’t do that but either one of these 4 coaches are a hell of a lot better than the BYU dude. Brother, we dodged a bullet on that dude staying put. It’s also better for him because he’s at the right spot.

@spf:

Pat has already hired Manny once before and Manny bailed; Pat ain’t hiring Manny again, imo.

@psu61 you might be right but for Penn St sakes he needs to hire the best coach possible or he doesn’t need that position. I’m good with Debeor or Daboll I’m just thankful it isn’t the BYU coach. I don’t want to give up on 2026 I want to win.

I just don't believe Sitake was ever the guy. I'm sorry, but you aren't convincing me that a guy from Tonga, who played at BYU, and since 2002 has coached at various places in Utah (Souther Utah, Utah, BYU), was all of a sudden going to uproot himself and leave for Pennsylvania during an 11-1 season.

That makes no freaking sense.

At this point I have zero trust in anything that comes out of a reporters/podcasters mouth.

@roaminglion i agree 100% Roam it makes absolutely no sense but it looks like we were and that BYU coach would be the Penn St coach had he not back out. I don’t get it. I’m giving up on the podcast I get a headache listening to all the gambling commercials and I’d rather read stuff anyway on espn or CBS sports

I agree Roam, a head scratcher!

Only thing good that could come out of the mess is the far flung plan and execution of someone like DeBoer actually being inked.
I just dont think so.

Recruits don't see it, but these upset conditions yield opportunities...you are the only X Position Player signed in the class.  These guys (NIL world) are free agents anyway.  And it is a signing period not a signing day?

We got late in the process and our fall back used us to get a big raise to stay home. And Pat didn't manage the risk that an employee often wants to stay where he is if the $ is reasonable.  So we have a coach that is LDS at BYU and we didn't recognize the risk?  OOPS.

Our monkey, our circus.

I would have been good with Hartline as well and Stein too. To bad those ships have sailed. Now it might end up being a coach who just got fired from the NFL. If that happens, it will be a long year next year I’m afraid.

Hartline, Stein and Chesney would have all been guys I would have been OK with taking a chance on if the big name guys all passed. As Roam said I'm still not convinced Sitaki was the guy and if he was the guy it made no sense.

I'm pretty sure a very high percentage of what could be called the best teams in the country all got their current coach by taking a chance on a coordinator with little or no head coaching experience.

PK is in way over his head. He has been played by the “big” coaches agent all along. BOT now involved. Best way forward is to fire PK immediately, form a new search committee and get the best candidate available.
pSU is the laughing stock of America right now. The school and alumni have been embarrassed.

At this point we have insulted Manny, but big$, bigger program will help him get over it.  Otherwise TS and the $ we save can be spent on a QB Coach, Receiver Coach, and NIL...

And PK can spin it that he decided to go with some 409 heritage....  He needs to save face some how, some way.

Too late.
Four reasons not to have a HC in place by now:

  1. There is one inked but cant announce yet (idts)
  2. AD fucked up and is mentally paralysed and cant make a decision
  3. Admin has taken it out if the AD hands
  4. No quality coach wants the position right now.

1) is the only semi positive reason and it means the coaches current playoff team trumps his future team...he wants to look reasonable.

4) Is a result of 2)

But we are not to late to have a coach....we will have one.

@psujoe  I love Penn St winning more than I do Manny but imo for what’s needed today he gives us the best chance to win and not take much of a step back. Dabeor does too and I’ll be just as satisfied to get him if we can. I believe y’all are dreaming on him leaving Alabama but if he does I’m loving him.

I don't believe for one second that the guy from BYU was the mystery guy...My opinion is it's DeBoer...I know this much...There has always been a close relationship between Penn State and Alabama...The athletic departments get along well and both programs have a great deal of respect between them...If DeBoer was leaving Bama I could see the Bama athletic department giving their blessing for him to go to Penn State...Especially if he isn't happy there...I don't have as many contacts there as I once had but the few I have are very solid and it wouldn't shock me if at the end of this process DeBoer was the guy they are bringing in...

@the-funeral-director  so you believe Dabeor is leaving Alabama for Penn St and Alabama will worry about getting a coach after Saturday or the playoffs? That make no sense there would be news everywhere on sports shows that Dabeor is leaving Alabama and who would they get at this time? I ain’t see it but I’ll be more than satisfied if you’re right

All I know is he isn't happy there...I am not so sure they are really happy with him either...They may have another coach lined up already to take his slot...I do know for a fact that the PSU athletic dept. and university for that matter and Alabama's athletic dept. and University are very close and have a lot of respect for one another...This goes back a long time and is deep rooted...Many of the folks I knew and had contact with are gone now sadly but I still have a few very good contacts at Bama...Let me just say I wouldn't be shocked if DeBoer isn't the guy they are waiting on...

@the-funeral-director

I wonder if the good relationship between PSU and BAMA had anything to do with the respect and friendship between JoePa and Bear Bryant?

I wonder if Mike Munchak could work or is he to far removed from football?

This weekend could tell the tale. If both AL and JMU lose: Deboer or Chesney (if not already committed to UCLA) could be hired as early as Sunday. If both win then all bets are off.

I wonder if Pete Carroll has interest.

@brownale  I’ve mentioned Pete Carroll and I didn’t get any bites. I’d love to get Pete Carroll and recruits would be jumping on ship day one and we would start winning games against Ohio State. Penn St would never get Pete

We are extremely happy at Alabama. ... There's never been any link, any conversation, any interest either way. I'm glad we can put that to bed right now."

I wonder if Kraft has someone else in mind?  It’s going to be Terry I believe, question is will Terry accept it considering Kraft has done everything to try and not hire Terry. Or so it seems. JMO
