Goes to show that TS was never a candidate.
Kinda wonder why Cignetti's OC, Mike Shanahan, was not considered? He's been with Cignetti for ~10 years and would think he's learned a lot. Could have been a win win in terms of realistic expectations on both sides, stability, etc.. Imo this would have been a viable consideration; thta's right, he has no HC experience.
I like Campbell but he is a 8 win/season coach, although you have to keep that in perspective.
@psu61 Terry Smith is gone IMO. Why would he stick around after being insulted by the school he obviously loves. The players like Rojas who supported him will most likely leave too.
@psu61 when TS was given the interim HC job I said he needs to go 5-1 to get the job and it didn’t happen we went 3-3 beating 3 bad teams. TS did a great job getting the team back to beating teams we should beat but Penn St football is better with TS as a position coach not HC. We won’t have KA and some other studs next year we need a good proven HC that can get in here and bring some players with him. I put Penn St winning football games before my feelings for any coach that’s why I wanted James Franklin out and I would’ve fired him after the ND loss and yall know I was the biggest James Franklin fan but he’d run his course. JUST WIN BABY…and I mean it and if something is in the way of it…get rid of it!
@psujoe That’s emotional talk and I understand it but I’m pretty sure if everybody loves Penn St football as much as I do they’ll get on board with Matt Campbell after the meet the guy assuming he gets the job. Me and roam has about killed each other the last 2 months but time heals things when things get fixed lol. I honestly believe Matt Campbell is the best man for the job after reading up on this dude. I’m excited if it gets done.
@southern-psu-fan 5-1 ? You think effin Manny could have come in and gone 5-1 in that situation? You’re dreaming if you do. I doubt there is more than 3 or 4 coaches in the entire country that can be put in a situation like that and go 5-1.
It doesn’t matter what Terry does because there’s no way he’s getting the job and after he walks PSU is going to regret the way they treated him.
@psujoe I said TS did a great job and yes I do believe we would’ve went 5-1 with Manny because he would’ve been running the defense not Jim Knowles because it’s the defense that beat us against Indiana and Iowa so yes I absolutely believe we would’ve gone 5-1 with Manny but I never brought Manny up I’m just answering your question, yes he would’ve imo
For the record I’d still rather have Manny but not by much after reading up on Campbell. Manny is still my first choice. IMO TS had to go 5-1 to get the job I even thought he had to go 5-1 and I’m a big fan of his.
Yea OK, Manny goes 7-5 in the biggest POS football conference in the country with losses to GT, Clemson,TTulane, and UConn. You’ must be smoking something if you believe the BS you’re trying to sell.
Matt Campbell signed an extension 2 days ago. I looked for his buyout but couldn't find it.
If I’m Matt Campbell, i want $10m/year, guaranteed for 5 years, no ifs ands or buts. And big NIL money, like big!
Will not be surprising if IS tries to keep him and increase his base to $8m/yr. Then he has to decide whether the extra $2M/yr is worth the unknown.
If he doesn't accept, gotta wonder if Kraft is next tk be shown the door?
I don’t believe anything anymore, the media has been throwing around names left and right and I will comment once someone is signed
signed in August 2025 with a $2M buyout.Matt Campbell signed an extension 2 days ago. I looked for his buyout but couldn't find it.
@psujoe Duke beat Clemson and Tulane and GT have good football teams this year with probably better talent than Duke
Man Duke is Duke and Manny has them 7-5 in the ACC championship game and has the same record as Elko after 2 years. These are different players as well for Duke. It’s all about having the opportunity at the right time. I’m judging Manny on what he did at Penn St with our defensive talent and that’s how I would judge him as our HC. You brought up Manny this time I didn’t I’m just responding. He ain’t getting the job anyway and neither is TS. The last 3 games we’ve beat 3 bad teams 2 having backup QB’s that’s the facts. I would never jeopardize Penn St winning football games looking at what I just said. Hopefully this Matt Campbell thing comes together because if it happens this is a home run get.
Terry had to at least go 4-2 and he almost did. The NEB win was not a big deal as they have played/beat nobody. And then we almost lost to a dog with fleas. Still if he and some others with PSU Ties want to stay I'd like to keep them.
What a year, this almost rivals .... I'm not going to say it. When PSU screws up they go big.
My assumption is that Kraft and the others are intelligent and think in both tactical and strategic terms.
Franklin was locked into Penn State through the 2031 season. To me, that means the next 6 seasons were going to be wasted with wins over poor to mediocre to possibly good teams at best. Any significant success before 2032 is goodness.
There are multiple ways to proceed but I am certain that the guys making the decision have identified objectives and goals for the program and they are looking for the guy who will lead the effort to achieve those objectives and goals while protecting the university. I believe that those casting aspersions now will be proven to have been short sighted.
Getting rid of Franklin was a great move. Unfortunately, everything that came after that has been gone downhill fast!
Campbell uses PK for another extension and stays at ISU. We’ve been to that dance many times in the past two months.
Matt Campbell signed an extension 2 days ago. I looked for his buyout but couldn't find it.
signed a contract extension with Iowa State through 2032 in August 2025, keeping the successful coach in Ames with $5 million annual pay, plus performance bonuses, while prioritizing funds for his staff and team revenue sharing, solidifying his commitment after a historic 11-win season.
From what I read is if he accepts a job at another school the buyout was 2 mil.
- If Iowa State fires him without cause: As of December 1, 2025, Iowa State would owe Campbell approximately $35.4 million. This amount ranks as one of the most expensive buyouts in college football.
- If Campbell leaves for another college job: He would owe Iowa State a flat buyout of $2 million.
- If Campbell leaves for an NFL job: There would be no buyout penalty
That's good. I wasn't too impressed with him anywho
Since no one seems to want the job, I'll take it. Give me 50 grand a year. No buy out. I'm sure I can lose to ohio state too. If any one wants to be a coordinator just let me know & we can wrap this crap show up this afternoon!!
Starting to come across as the AD is just as much a cancer as the ex HC.
I’m all in on KC Keeler, Temple HC. It’s the best PK can do. PK has made PSU toxic!
