until JF retires from coaching!!

That was horrible, uncalled for and a complete embarrassment for this team. You all will have your position, I will respect it and listen.  But from my side, JF did not have this team mentally prepared and that was ALL ON HIM yesterday.   The play calling?  Once again, just horrible.  The defense did NOT give up 42 points, the offense DID. Just like the Ohio State game, I though the defense did pretty well.  Yes, they got fooled on several big plays, that was mostly because the offense kept them on the field way too long and some of it was because they are not being coached well. However, they did enough to give the offense a chance to win.

What's up with Trace?  Did he peak? Absolutely no killer instinct in this kid since the Illinois game.  I think JF took the life out him by expecting him to fix the mistakes the coaching staff creates game after game.

Penn State has a very good football team. They have some very good players and quite a bit of talent on both sides of the ball.  Was Michigan better?  Not 35 points!! Was Ohio State or Sparty better?  Absolutely not! I think we ALL should have realized after the APP State game that there are some serious issues with the coaching ability at Penn State.  I firmly believe Penn State should be sitting at 9-0 even after yesterday. They handed Mich 21 of their 42 points and couldn't keep the offense on the field.  How many times did Penn State call the same plays?  Michigan knew what Penn States running 80 percent of the time...didn't have to practice too much for that game.

I hope that they can take the next three games and prepare this young team for future success.  It's over for the Sr's, I will miss McSorely next year, but there is absolutely no reason for this team to ever get blown off the field with all of the talent they have!  Penn State should finish 4-0....PERIOD! Anything less is unacceptable and JF should be ashamed!

ELITE?  Good luck coach!

And I believe that was exactly what he discussed!

I'm sure JF is already lining up his fall guys. Hopefully he doesn't waste any time and fires them shortly after the Maryland game ends.

We took it on the chin just like LSU did last night. These games happen. We kicked Michigan’s butt last year and it was payback. I just told mb let’s take this loss out on Wisconsin and fight for 10 wins which ain’t all that bad considering this was a rebuilding year. Michigan was 8-5 last year and back in the top 5 this year. This is how football goes. I honestly believe James Franklin will get things fixed. Let the season play out. Michigan is just better this year than we are. Nothing to get down about .

SPF,  I agree with the first half of your post.  However,  the offense for the last several games was just out of sync and just looked terrible! It's one thing to lose to a better team but it's entirely a different matter when half of your team doesn't show up! That's on the coaches!

Excellent comments and yes, teams lose and sometimes very badly, OSU to Clemson, Alabama to Auburn in a shocking last play of the game.

But, it seems PSU does not make changes/adjustments after a loss.   PSU lost to OSU this year as last year’s game.   I watched the Franklin presser and same statement, make changes and coaches have to do better.   The problem is the results are still the same.   Franklin needs to be a head coach and not be the head cheerleader.   Franklin knows he is not going anywhere, but fan base will be hard to motivate and pay outrageous ticket prices and recruits will start second-guessing why go to PSU.

What I can't figure out is, in recent past years with pretty much with the same core coaching staff, Franklin, Pry and Rahne they were known to come out slow and sometimes be behind then go into the locker room at half time and come out and look like a totally different team in the second half. What is going on this year where we don't seem to see those adjustments? This year we've played pretty decent from the start (vice being slow and flat like other years) but seem to fall off later in the game. Is it the inexperience of all the young players? Combination of all the young players and the loss of leadership?

While I totally agree about some of the coaching calls and lack of game management there seems to be more to the story. I don't see the veterans on the sidelines firing up their squads like in the recent past. Especially in Trace, he seems kind of subdued and tentative. Something is amiss!!

Navylion I just don’t think we are as good as the last 2 years. We lost a lot of good football players and coaches. Look at Michigan 8-5 last year rebuilding and look at ‘em this year, back in the top 5. We still have a good chance to win 10 games and that is the goal. Just my opinion though lol

And I don’t think JF did his team any favors by pouring it on Michigan last year giving them locker room extra incentive.

Navylion - well said, especially around your comments about the veterans firing up the sidelines.  PSU have come out flat every game since the OSU Loss.  If PSU played as they did against OSU, MSU would have been a win and a much closer game yesterday.   Michigan has the bye week, revenge factor, and a raucous crowd, but PSU looked scared and timid.   Looks lost PSU list it’s swagger since the OSU Game.

UM had the bye week and took advantage of it. PSU had a bye prior to MSU with a "revenge factor, and a raucous crowd" and folded! And that's the coach's fault!

Let's be fair! In 2016 Harbaugh didn't cut PS any breaks in 2016 when UM beat them 49-10. It would be fair to say Franklin was returning the "favor" in 2017.

Every time the team loses some on this forum blame the coaches. Really?  Franklin’s complete body of work while at PSU is outstanding.

I’m standing by our coaches and players.

Ok, so let's not even discuss the ill prepared UM game. Prior to that game, PS lost five games by a total of 12 points. In each of those games they held the lead in the 4th quarter and then on cue promptly folded. And you don't see a coaching problem with that? When you can't beat UM, OSU, and MSU, how can you possibly hope to win the B1G championship much less compete on a national level? Stand by the players?  No question! Stand by the coaching? Not until Franklin can show he can prepare a team that can play the same for all four quarters against top competition.

One simple statistic about Coach JF:  0 - 11 on the road versus Ranked Teams by a loss margin of 26 points.  Grant it, the loss margin can be skewed because of the sanction years.   Saturday's performance was unacceptable and it all starts with JF and his beloved Coaching Staff.   I have been watching PSU Football for over 40 years and I have never seen a PSU Football Team so poorly prepared and so flat week in and week out.   Coaching flaws are masked by playing lower tier teams, but are grossly magnified agains the Big Ten's Upper Tier Teams.
