Any person in State College going to pay $10,000 to talk to a kid?  Happening at Texas A&M.

Game over.

Penn State has the largest alumni association in the world and as many successful people as any university in the world...I think they will be able to compete when it comes to finances...Also this day and age 10k is peanuts...

It wasn't a person that paid 10,000 dollars to a kid. Two football players were paid 10,000 each for interviews with an Aggie fan site. Link

Should have paid them $14999 and claimed it as a gift, instead they have to pay taxes on the $10K, I guess.

No valid reason financial opportunities should ever get in the way of grades. Note I said "valid" reason

To the well heeled alumni 10k a kid is peanuts...You think a guy like Pegula would miss 800k? the guy is worth billions...I am expecting some of these kids to bring in millions in endorsements...You got people paying 250k a plate to eat dinner with a politician trust me to some of these people their schools winning football games in way more important...The curtain has been pulled back and people are going to be shocked by how much money flows in to these programs to pay these kids...I don't think the NCAA is going to be able to handle it...I really think they are gonna decentralize and you are going to see super leagues with the top money schools creating their own independent league from the NCAA...Especially in Football and Basketball...The current division system isn't feasible anymore...Especially in Football and Basketball...Big changes are a coming...

Another thought on this...How much sway will these sports channels have? ESPN, Fox etc...Are they going to be paying players for appearances? How biased are they going to be? ESPN is in bed with the SEC and ACC so are they going to be throwing money around to ensure those conferences have an edge to help their network? Would these appearance fees if there are any be made public? As I mentioned earlier big time NCAA football has become a professional league...The money schools are going to emerge as the big winners here...

No one knows where this will end. For sure, a lot different than it is now.

I'm afraid you're right, FD.  The end of college FB as we know it.  Soon to be a professional league..... too bad.

They all big money schools baby they got so much money they don’t know what to do with all of it. Instead of paying the ncaa crooks and coaches millions of dollars they should put a salary cap on ‘em and found a way to keep the tuition down to where normal working people can afford to go to college without being in debt up to their  eye balls  when they get out. Y’all remember a few years back I said the fat cats days of hogging all the money is about gone and here we are the money pie just is going to be spread around a little more. I hate it but if the ncaa crooks like mark Emmert can make millions and coaches make millions the players that are playing should get something I just don’t know how much.

My guess is that the NCAA will stay intact but the role will be repurposed away from academics as such and be more of a feel good/look good oversight role and possibly be a centralized banker for the money to flow through for league/conference distribution. I do agree that the formation of a super elite division with a N/S/E/W conferences is in the works and the other schools will simply be practice games or stay under the current D1 framework. The money that is gonna roll in is going to be insane to what is already rolling IMO. Now college coaches are really gonna get a dose of putting up with prima donnas of a different magnitude, players and parents. Its all about the money!

It all started going downhill when they began paying coaches and administrators millions!  I know high school coaches who are technically superior to Franklin and including teaching 5 classes, put in as much time and make $10,000 for their efforts. I’m not saying that Franklin is a bad coach or that he doesn’t work hard, I’m just saying. College athletics is really screwed up right now.

@sky college athletics is just fine stop worrying sky I’m telling ya, they have so much money they just don’t know what to do with all of it you see  all the fat cats get richer and richer every year and these dudes are nasty rich. Only the USA government probably brings in more money than college football. Don’t buy into the crap that the money ain’t there because it is. I’m not hating on ‘em for gettin rich more power to ‘em  I just wish I could find a way to get my hand in that pie lol

I don't know, Southern.  I think all that money is the problem.  Money has a way of corrupting things.  That's why I feel college football is doomed.  Oh, it'll be around, but in a much different form.  The way things are now with outrageous coaching salaries, luxurious athletic facilities, paying the players, player movement (the transfer portal), exorbitant cost of tickets and seat licensing, etc.  it's already NFL lite.

D1 is the next legit semi-pro league; room, board, money, women/men groupies, corruption, etc..; forget about current semi-pro fad leagues, XFL, Fan Choice etc.. those are bush league compared to the evolution of D1.

@psu61  if that happens the fans will lose interest and then there goes college football and the NFL. That could be the plan because football has been under attack for the last 20 years but I sure hope not.
