@shankalottapuss Alabama’s QB is gettin hit and running for his life on some plays. The days of having dominating O-Lines are pretty much gone. What we had in Limegrover is about as good as you’re going to get running the RPO. The O-line didn’t suck when Limegrover was here we won 11 games 3 times in 4 years. Barkley, Boobie and Journey Brown run for a lot of yards way better than what we see today.
Yes, the Oline did suck when he was here. They've never been good since 2014.
@roaminglion Roam, you are on record on this website saying Limegrover was a good O-line coach and I know for a fact you said our OL has got better every year while Limegrover was here. You liked the new hire and I didn’t that’s on record here but that doesn’t mean you didn’t like Limegrover. Regardless of all that just look at the wins while Limegrover was here and just leave it at that. If you want the 7-6 record of 2014 you are welcome to it but I like the season 2016-2019 while Limegrover was here. It ain’t a coincidence that the O-Line has got worse since Limegrover was fired.
An example yesterday of line play that just can't be blamed on poor coaching.. unless getting players 'up' is included in poor coaching.
Remember the Play where it looked like our center was pass blocking, he may have been considering helping out the right guard but the right guard had things under control and in fact there was a huge hole up the middle that the MLB blew thru and stopped Caine. So I guess it was RPO although with a non mobile QB we are not really RPO so much especially since one of the 3 options is gone. But the point is that lineman have some assignments. I have a hard time believing that his assignments weren't 1) get the ball safely to the QB 2) help the guards if needed and then go to the next level and get on a LB. He did 1 of 3. Actually he may have done #2 as he saw the guard didn't need help but geeze maybe he can't see the MLB coming because why?
Maybe the RPO make linemen passive but watch how often our guys are missing blocks and rarely getting to the second level to block someone, they wait for someone to block. Then watch how often IL Linemen were blocking our Linebackers. It is obvious that too many people on our offense are not blocking during any play. And if we can't run, then please decide who is our best blocking back and get him in. We had no runs over 10 yards, we might as well have a full back.
If the goal of our offense is to put ends and Linebackers 'In Conflict' or whatever that JF phrase is that isn't Complimentary then I can tell you that the TE's are NOT putting them in conflict nor is the running game. We hope to fool the LB's out of plays rather that block them.
Watch how clean the IL LB's are compared to the PSU LB's. If the goal of the DL is to keep LB's clean to make plays then IL grades an A and our O-Line grades an F.
I just suspect that RPO blocking can lead to passive blocking, not that it has to but if we are going to run a system that puts someone 'In Conflict' we better make sure it is not our offensive line.
And you know what, I'm an arm chair QB. I played pony football, but until the professionals show some understanding I'm allowed to state the obvious!

How about you include all of what I said, not just one part of it. I said the OLine was getting better, not that they were actually good.
Yeah, I thought he was a good line coach until the end, when the line was only incrementally better and not nearly as good as it should have been
They were horrific in 2014-15, and went to terrible, then bad, then below average. So sure, they got better... the bar was freaking low. I hoped it may continue if Limegrover stayed, but he's at Arkansas State now which should tell you something. You also kept saying John Donovan was good because "he won games"... no, he wasnt.
FFS Almost every damn article of the past 8 years regarding the offensive line is about "when is it going to get better".

You answered the question right there!! It had nothing to due with Limegrover, everyone was still bitching about the O line during those years! Everyone was saying how if Barkley had an O line working for him he would have set records and won the heisman!!
It had everything to do with the generational talent talent of Barley and the talen of Boovie and J Brown, They succeeded DESPITE OF Limegrovers Matadors!!

Yeah, I agree. Would be interesting to now how many of SB yards came from between the tackles? All I really remember is popping outside and gone or going into the back of the line and taking a knee so to speak.
@roaminglion his last year here we won 11 games should’ve won 12 we give the Minnesota game away. Well to be fair we had a great chance to beat Minnesota and just didn’t get it done but I remember there was a questionable call in the end zone late in the game. I’m telling y’all the days of having a dominating O-Line are gone Limegrover’s done a great job in his 3 years. Look how bad the OL was when he got to Penn St we had DL playing offense for gods sake.

We disagree. I don't think an overall record can be shown as evidence that one part of a team is good.
Oklahoma routinely wins 10 games with a terrible defense, their record isn't proof that the DC is doing a good job.
