I have 3 mostly in the JoePa era:
1. 4 yard down and out on 3rd and 8.
2. On the rare occasion that a pass was called on 1st down and was incomplete, 2nd down was always a draw play.
3. If we had a team 3rd and 20 on their own 1 yard line, our safeties would line up 25 yards and give up a 21 yard pass.
Two older guys in our section would loudly yell out these plays in advance ( I think some libation was involved). They also advocated punting on 3rd down "like the 50's".
1979 Sugar Bowl vs. Alabama.... 1 st and 10, GTG at the 8 yard line, 3 attempts and no TD, 4th and 1 at the 1 foot line when Guman is stuffed by Barry Kraus. #1 Penn State loses the national championship to #2 Alabama. I’m still sick about that game.
Mine is the Minnesota game 1999. Man I was heartbroken lol
Last year's 27-26 loss to OSU at home. The Lions were driving at the end of the game with a 4th & 5 at the OSU 43. Franklin & Rahne took the ball out of Trace's hands by calling a hand off to Sanders resulting in a 2 yd loss and end of game.
My least fav is and probably will always be Iowa leading 6-2 with plenty of time left, over 8 minutes, taking a safety to make it 6-4. They punted to us knowing that we didn't have the offense to drive down the field for a field goal. 10-22-2004. That was such a frustrating game.
2005 last play when Michigan beat us. Kept us out of the NC, and I despise the Wolverines
Anytime Hackenberg did the flanker screen or quick hitch to one of our WR's. It always seemed to end up thrown at their feet.
I was sitting right under goal post in North endzone and ball went right over my head, hated that
Part of my soul died when the FG sailed through against Iowa in 2008. That one was just as hard to take as Michigan in 2005...
...however I don't mind Iowa so it is #2 on my list
The play calls that did not work, they are the worst....
Not necessarily nitnation because some bad plays beat you when some don’t. The ones that beat you are the worst but even some losses are worse than others. 05 Michigan game, 99 Minnesota games, 08 Iowa game were devastating losses in my opinion. 02 Iowa and Michigan games were pretty bad too. Notice all but one of those losses we got some chitty bad calls from the Refs

I'm not a blame the officiating on losses. In all of those games there was plenty of opportunities to win or lose on your own.
My point being plays like last year's 4th and 5 was a bad call, hell any play that did not work in that situation was going to be a bad call by the armchair coaches. It was a heck of a defensive call but as the game played out PSU gained yardage on that same exact call. It's competition and it happens.
Historically fans break plays down to that level. It worked fantastic, it didn't work the coach knows nothing..
Any 3rd down pass play short of the first down marker.
Every single field goal Ficken missed in that damn game!

Couldn't agree with you more!! Welcome to the board!
I’ve never said it was a bad call matter of fact I’m on record saying it was a good call Ohio st just made a great defensive stop. The Refs were so bad when we played Michigan joe paterno complained about it and the B1G 10 got replay because of it. I really don’t think we’ve got bad calls playing Ohio st it’s Michigan where we got some bad calls by the Refs.

I still say it was a bad call. When you have a QB with the caliber and heart of McSorley you don't take him out of the play by handing off to the RB. You leave the ball in his hands with options and look for him to pull out a winning play. If he doesn't and you lose, at least you gave it your best shot.

It’s was mcsorelys call. He had three options on that play. He chose the best looking option. The defense ran a rarely used double stunt. NOBODY saw that coming.
Simple fact is if our WR don't drop 6 passes in that game killing our drives, we would never have been in that situation.
McSorley played out of his mind that night, and IMO you could see his confidence in the WRs wane considerably after that game.
Bill, if what you're saying is right I stand corrected. I just think it looked like a designed handoff to Sanders from the git-go.

Roam, I noticed a change in McSorley too. I'm probably wrong, but I attributed it to a reaction to the 4th down play call. Something like "busted my butt all game....wish I could have had a better shot at the end". I don't mean to say he was being selfish, just disappointed. Again, if Bill is right and Trace had options other than a straight hand off, I'm all wet. Wouldn't be my first time, LOL.
