Announced that he's going full steam ahead on his NFL career. IMO, he made the right decision for his future. At first glance, Baseball seems like a better option because of the career longevity and money... however I don't think people realize how hard it is for MLB draftee's to make it to the big show.
The percentage of 1st rounders from college that make it to the MLB is 17% That means more than 4/5ths of players from college drafted in the 1st round never even see a pro field.
The percentage of 1st rounders from college that last 3 years in the MLB is 13% So, if Kyler Murray was among the lucky few who make it 3 years, he could then sign a good pro contract.
NFL 1st rounders? Well most if not all make the roster of the team that drafted them. They also all get a very respectable rookie contract. For example: Baker Mayfied is making $32 million on his rookie deal. It's very rare for a team to let go of a 1st rounder before their rookie deal is up, so he'll likely see all that money. Not to mention the endorsement deals if he starts, or sometimes even if they don't due to name recognition.
Even if Kyler busts, he probably makes upwards of 25-30 million over 4 years. If the 2nd round, maybe 15-20 million. Heck, 10 years ago Tim Tebow busted and made 12 million. LMAO
In Baseball, his chances were 13%. In the NFL, he's almost guaranteed 25- 30 million. Baseball is a rough gig, so much harder to make it to the show out of college than the NFL. Who knows, if he bombs out of the NFL there's nothing stopping him from joining a minor league team either.
