Height can be a bit overrated... BAMA has one of the best WR core and they are 6' to 6'1".
Not say some height is not needed but great route runners will get open with good technique.
As far as the OL and DL go I want big ,athletic and nasty attitudes...
Conversation with Franklin went something like 'Coach I'm not getting enough action, I'm thinking about entering the transfer portal'. Franklin 'Justin you are like family to me, let me help you with the computer'.
Anybody wonder if the advertised relationship between Hamler and Clifford gets into the head of people like Shorter?
Some guys are used to being the big man on campus, not receiver #4. They can't make the adjustment?
Of course that's a real thing and there are many players that can't make the leap and deal with that...
I wonder if shorter knows Hamler is coming back next year 😁 that’s what I’m hoping for anyway lol. Let’s give Slade some credit he ain’t going to quit on the team and he had a few good runs today. I still can’t believe he jumped ship like that on the last game of the season. You gotta fight for a position if you want it.
It must be a tough decision to take someone that has given up on his current team and entered the portal. I'd see it as less of a stigma for a player that has graduated but football is more of a team sport than a lot of team sport and a coach has to figure out if the potential value on the field is worth the potential character flaw in the locker room.
In reality it is a good problem to have, lets face it, players usually don't leave when they are starters and they have the job free and clear.
Grass is always greener mentality, happens in the normal job world also.
Franklin words were we want guys that go to class and graduate and be very good in the community and give all you can to the football program and when you do these things in that order it’s harder to win 11 and 12 games. I agree with him but in reality it’s harder to win in college football when that’s the mentality you have. It’s the right mentality to have by the way. James Franklin is doing a great job when you put that in perspective. That’s what he said after the game yesterday if I heard him right.
Put on top of that a system that mandates perfection with a 12-0 record and fan bases that looks at a 10-2 seasons as completely meaningless.
I prefer that PSU promote student and character, long term it is right for the athletes in general and to some degree should yield positive results on the field. Were we clearly the dominant team against UM, Iowa, Pitt, Michigan? No, but we won. To win 12 games you need to be pretty dominant AND get some breaks. We ignore the breaks we got in games we won but in MN we got no breaks nor were we dominant. And we were in IT until the next to last game. It is great to be in the conversation, to have a chance.
Not all people are a good fit in a culture. Justin understands more than us but may not be able to put a 21 year old finger on what he 'understands'. If he does not feel he can elevate his game to be a top 2 receiver on a TEAM with a chance to be in the top 4 next year and wants to be a top 2 receiver on a team there is always someone that will tell him he can be 1 or 2. There are also people that need an average receiver more than us and at this point he has shown himself to be average with the potential label?
I hope where ever he goes has a major that is important to him 😎
