I only get to watch via tv so hard to see whole field but there have been many times I’ve seen “other” receivers open and qb has gone to option 1 or 2. Sometimes it seems decision is made presnap. The games where oline are struggling or Slade is on field there isn’t enough time to go through all progressions. Then one could argue the offense is very predictable and many tendencies show on film that help opponents game plan.

Hamler makes up for a drop on other plays. Hamlers  track record speaks for itself. Shorter can’t get open just like some of the other WR’s. Maybe the TE and Hamler are the only 2 gettin open. All of ‘em need to do a better job catching the ball including guys on defense. The TE and Hamler are our best plat makers so you can’t blame the QB for getting them the ball.

Don’t get me wrong now I don’t think much is wrong I’m just trying to figure out why we have so many drop and even the drops don’t bother me as long as we win but when you lose you have to look at why. Drops and penalties cost us a chance at beating Minnesota and Ohio st that’s just the facts. If shorter transfers odds are he doesn’t think he’s good enough to play at penn st and ain’t nothing wrong with that it happens.

I just don’t see a 5 star receiver leaving because he feels he isn’t good enough

No, you don't have to figure out why so many drops because I just showed you there aren't many. And sorry Southern, but I saw WRs open a lot... Clifford or Levis just aren't looking at them. For pete's sake we were driving until Levis forced it into Friermuth and got picked... BOTH SHORTER AND DOTSON WERE WIDE OPEN ON THE PLAY.

Many other plays I've seen them open, they just aren't throwing to them. As for not feeling he is good enough, that's ridiculous. When two players from the same position decide to leave in consecutive years, it is probably because they aren't being utilized... not because they are insecure

Johnson was and still is terrible.  Who knows with Shorter, hell some kids can't handle the pressure of the whole situation, football academics etc.  Have no clue why and Frankly don't care.  The whole portal is a joke but it's here.

Look NIU had their Jr RB enter portal and was on back to back 1000 yard rushing seasons.

Every player will have some reason but other than grad transfers it's all about quitting on your teammates. PSU will be fine and better off, more important to have ones that want to be there and not ready to quit if things are not going their way.

Exactly the way I see it. Either they ain’t good enough or they got a chip on their shoulders. Go get another one that wants to play for Penn State. Not saying shorter ain’t good but I just didn’t see the 5* ranking but he’s still young we’ll see. JJ ain’t done much and he had a lot of hype as well. James Franklin lets them walk for a reason remember that.

5 star rank guarantees nothing...  There are plenty of reasons a player ranked as a 4 or 5 star fails.

It seems the staff has had faith in Shorter plus shorter struggled out of the gate with injury that put him behind.

This is not the NFL...

If he wants to enter the portal that is fine but finish your commitment to the the season...  It's not harsh and the adults in the room messed up when they let the portal remain open during the season.

Yea you are right, he definitely should have waited until the season was over. That I agree with, and your point about closing the Portal during the season.

Roam I never understood the concept of having that open all season...  It needs to be fixed and the pressure that puts on a coach to keep players happy has got to come into play.

Do they have to sit a year?

http://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/media-center/news/what-know-about-division-i-transfers

"A student-athlete can transfer at any time; however, the student-athlete may have to sit out from competition the first year at the new school unless he or she can meet an exception. A limited exception does exist to allow a first-time incoming student-athlete (i.e., a true freshman) to compete the first year at a new school if a head coaching change occurred during the summer before the student’s first fall semester at the original school."

I’m guessing just like everybody else but you’d think the coaches would tell Clifford to try and get shorter the ball if they thought he was not getting enough touches and it would make a big difference in the game. I’m also a believer guys that transfer do it because they’re not good enough and they see the writing on the wall. Very few go somewhere else and make a difference. Fields and mayfield are very few that transfer and make a big boom. Alabama has Players leave all the time and except for Hurts I ain’t heard anything out of any of ‘em.

Once that ball is snapped then progression reads are on the QB...  Pat and Hamler are our playmakers, last year people were pissed that Hamler was not getting enough touches.  I'm not on the field standing behind an OL with a rush coming down my neck so I can't speak to what the QB is or is not seeing.  We get to see open WR etc from our TV or in replay, it's a bit different under fire.

I think to say that it's quitting on you teammates is a bit much. Every free agent in the NFL quits on their teammates then.

This is absolutely quitting on your team and it’s selfish. You are on a 9-2 team with a chance to win 10 games, finish in the top 10 and play in a high profile NY6 bowl game and you decide to announce your leaving? It’s about as selfish as it gets. Look at me, I need more attention. And the NCAA is enabling it. It’s sad really. I’ve been thinking about this for the last 2 days and it makes me angrier and angrier. What are we teaching our youth these days? What happened to hard work pays off? When was it decided that if you don’t like your situation, just quit because it must be better somewhere else? How about this? If you want the ball, work your butt off to make sure they can’t deny getting you the ball. Watch more game film, get on the jugs machine more, work on routes more, get open. Stay after practice voluntarily and work with your quarterback. Work it out amongst yourselves.  If you are getting limited opportunities, make the most of it. Catch everything thrown your way. Is it too much to ask these coddled athletes/kids to look in the mirror, accept responsibility and work to improve. I think this is a reflection of our society right now. It’s not my fault, it’s someone else’s.
I don’t pretend to know why he is transferring, but putting it all on the coaches to get him the ball more to make him happy is a recipe for disaster. It sends a bad message to the team that he is bigger than the team. Enough already with this type of attitude. If he doesn’t want to be there, then go. There’s a reason why they are bringing in 5 WRs in the 2020 class, most likely because they don’t trust anyone besides Hamler and Dotson. He currently isn’t on the roster and that’s the way it should be even if he wants to play on Saturday. Kudos to Franklin. I hope Franklin doesn’t bend over backwards to help him transfer either.
Thanks for listening to my rant. I’m really frustrated by this type of outlook by kids and athletes. At some point maybe we, as a society, should stop treating people like royalty because they can catch and throw a ball. It’s ridiculous and it needs to stop.

Happy Thanksgiving!!🦃

Amen, amen, amen.  You reap what you so.  The NCAA stupidity is catching up to college football.  Turn out the lights, the party's over.

Coaching can’t stop a player from dropping a ball thrown to the hands.

I think a QB doesn't go through his progressions when he is not confident that the pass protection is going to hold up; therefore before taking the snap his brain has already predetermined the pass to the quick route or the receiver he has most confidence in. Hell this happened all the time just playing backyard football as kidsis ; its human nature and the primal defensive reaction to get the hell out of trouble (being tackled) ASAP when you already know whats in front of you, especially when it's coming fast; of course if you were a helluva athlete who could scramble then it was just a matter of confidence and having fun making good things happen e.g. McSorley.

Clearly Shorter is not a warrior. Lots of great receivers had a miserable freshman year but battled hard and emerged on top.

Not overly exciting when the avg. height  is just barely 6' - would really like to see some 6'4'' or 6'5'' guys on that list.  Then again, I want all my linemen to be 6'7'' 350 too, oh and with 4.4 speed too!  lol

Definitely self centered.  You are looking at a team that is going to be better next year.  You have had a mediocre season.  Instead of stepping up and being on a team you want to go to a place that guarantees you a starting position.

Justin, let me tell you a secret, if you call Justin Fields he'll tell you how to get around sitting a year.

Didn't realize Hamler dropped so many but he does get 1/2 the balls thrown his way.  He did have a drop today.  My perception is that he has good hands.
