Being reported that Justin Shorter has entered the transfer portal. I used to think he was a bust, but absolutely no one was able to do anything in that WR role. Pretty much the same for the other WR position and Dotson.
Next man up I guess, but Clifford and the coaching staff better figure out how to get the WRs more involved next year. Can't just throw it to the slot and TE.
This is super unfortunate. We can't be losing 5* recruits once they are here. I agree with you 100% that the coaching staff needs to figure out how to get these other positions more involved.
This can't be viewed positively in any way and especially not on the recruiting front. We lose the top WR in our own state and now the highest rated one, star wise, on our team.

Not to mention Juwan Johnson, who was at the same position as Shorter, transferred out last year too. However, he hasn't exactly lit the world on fire at Oregon either.
I was just thinking about Marvin Harrison Jr too. He is also OSU bound. This could be because he is following his QB there but why could we land both of them?

Yeah, but we have recruited the WR position very well from a stars standpoint... However it is concerning that ever since Rahne took over the production out of the X & H receivers (outsides) has gone into the toilet. Z has been great, but without production from the outsides the field is so constricted. Would really open up the running game if we could just figure out how to utilize the whole field again.
Clearly it has not been a good fit is it scheme, oline, qb, Shorter not performing? Maybe a combo but agree Roam very concerning as he isn’t the first to underwhelm
If they would catch the ball maybe the QB would throw to ‘em. McSorley lost confidence in some of the WR’s and it looks like Clifford has to. The WR’s need to catch the dang ball and they need to get open. I don’t know what the problem is but we have a problem with catching the football rather it’s the WR’s or DB’s. It has to be a confidence problem

Unfortunate that when Shorter was thrown to he dropped to many...

Oh BS, Dotson dropped maybe 2 balls all year and Shorter didn't even drop a ball until Minnesota.
You telling me Clifford didn't throw to Shorter for 8 games because of what would happen in the future at Minnesota?
No kidding with Johnson... I watched that Oregon/Arizona St game, he was awful.
The stage might be to big, who knows.
After looking Shorter drops its not really quantity as apposed to more critical...
These charts are cool and a very nice breakdown.
How did he take the production out?
We all know the base offense of RPO is a QB/WR pre-snap read which dictates the route a WR will run.
We will see what happens, how Rahne and Parker adjust the offense scheme wise next year... I don't believe Rahne is afraid to make changes as needed.

I have no idea, but it's hard to ignore the severe production drop out of the X & H positions from 2017 to 2018. With the same QB...
Of course it wasn't just the OC, but something happened and we need to figure it out
The dude dropped balls that may have cost us a win so IMO that ain’t BS plus I said they meaning all of ‘em. The WR’s ain’t catching the dang ball and it’s been a problem
Hard to throw the ball down field when the D' is in your face, top that off with some dropped balls and the QB loses confidence in his receivers, lineman and gets gun shy; then he starts tossing the ball up for grabs, focusing on the short safe pass as a predetermined pass, or taking off taking off. In all honesty, I question whether Rahne knows how to utilize his skill players or thinks that he can't b/c he doesn't have faith in his O'line to run plays.
And maybe he might not think he’s good enough to start so he’s leaving. He might see better opportunities somewhere else and if he does I wish him nothing but the best.
The one thing that has changed is the player...
Maybe their routes are not crisp (good footwork is vital for a WR to create separation)
Maybe they are not being physical off the ball
I agree whatever the issue is it does need worked out.
This is one time I'd bring in an outside receivers coach to diagnose the problem. Hell maybe even have an experienced receiver give some feedback e.g. a Randy Moss, Steve Smith, Jimmy Cefalo, Kenny Jackson etc..
I take that back #5 Dotson was pretty dang good last year. Really haven’t seen much of him this year and I got confused on who was who. Shorter is the one I’m thinking of that’s not lived up to the hype. Don’t mean he’s not trying he just might not be good enough, it happens.
Does shorter have to sit out a year?
Does shorter have to sit out a year?
All depends who he goes to. If it's Ohio St, no!

He didn't really drop many balls before Minnesota because they weren't throwing to him Southern. So kinda hard to say they weren't throwing him the ball because he drops passes if they didn't even try throwing it to him in the first place.
Justin Shorter receiving chart:
Idaho: 3 catches / 3 targets / no drops
Buffalo: 3/3/0 (Hamler had 3 drops)
Pitt: 2/3/0 (Hamler had 1 drop)
Maryland: 1/1/0
Purdue: 0/0/0
Iowa: 1/1/0
Michigan: 0/1/0
Michigan State: 1/1/0 (Hamler had 3 drops)
Minnesota: 0/3/2 (Hamler 1 drop)
Indiana: 0/0/0
So you can see there that Shorter HAD NO DROPS before the Minnesota game, and Hamler had 7. Kinda torpedoes the theory that Clifford isn't throwing the ball to other WRs because of drops, Hamler drops it the most.
I agree I don't think it's a drop so I'm not throwing to you thing...
We have to remember Clifford is in his first year as a starter, with that maybe he is not going through progressions, maybe WRs are not making proper pre snap reads, maybe routes are not crisp... These WR have a big responsibility
