Well, many here on the board saw this coming weeks ago, and now it's official. Justin Fields will enroll at Ohio State and may be able to play next year. More intrigue added to the game in late November next year.

The rich get richer! Ohio State is not missing a beat with the new coach.

I think he'll probably get the hardship waiver, but that's weak. Because one racist baseball player (who was kicked off the team) taunted him at a football game, he gets to circumvent the entire system everyone else needs to abide by? That's BS.

Unless it was more widespread than that, there should not be a waiver given. Georgia actually backed him up and showed they were willing to punish the other kid, so how is that a hardship? The kid Georgia booted from the baseball team was even an All-Conference player, so not exactly a scrub they could easily do without. IMO if Fields gets to play next year what good are the rules to begin with, just say someone taunted you and transfer wherever you want.

Assuming he gets the waiver to play next year, and there is no reason to think he won’t because Ohio State gets what ever they want ( me being pissy here), how many total years of eligibility does he get?

3 years, because I believe he played more than 4 games at Georgia so they burned his redshirt.

That said, when you think about it... it's funny how crazy everyone is going about Fields anyway. I've seen some experts saying it makes OSU a title contender next year, like Tate Martell wasn't already on the roster?

I mean, Justin Fields was the #2 Dual-Threat QB in the 2018 recruiting cycle. However, Tate Martell was teh #2 Dual-Threat QB in the 2017 recruiting cycle. LMAO, yet one is "the savior" while the other was an also ran? Funny how experts get so caught up on things.

I  would rather PSU never take a QB transfer. This is the highest profile position and when you recruit a high ranked QB or 2, then bring in someone like Fields or Patterson - why would any players trust these coaches??

Right, I thought the same thing. Although OSU , gets a good one, they haven’t seriously upgraded unless Martell goes down. Plus, Martell has the advantage of having been in the program for 2 years meaning he knows the system and a bonding with the other players. I doubt Martell intends to lose his place on the debth chart.

I'm betting he transfers if Fields is given a waiver.

Not according to Martell's social media... The kid sounds like he's ready for war. LMAO

I'd think Haskins is declaring and Martell is gone if there is any hint of not starting over Fields. If he doesn't start, he sits behind Fields for his last two years. If he transfers, he sits out a year and potentially starts somewhere else. I don't see that he's in a good place either way.

Maybe I'm missing something but, Fields de-commits from PSU why? Because he was worried about not starting because of Trace and Tommy? So he signs with Ga and rides the pine cause as much as he is touted to be this superstar, he wasn't good enough to start over Fromm. So he thinks he is going to beat out Martell? Going to be interesting to see if he gets the job and can hold on to it.

Navy Lion,

Your comment speaks volumes to me.  Similar to you, I am a retired Army Officer.  I find myself enjoying college football less every year and I have come to believe that college football is no longer congruent with my value system.  Programs are not held accountable for poor academic performance and graduation rates below the university average.  It appears that many players only meet the minimum standards to be considered "student athletes" and are focused on getting to the next level as soon as possible.  On the field, the rules appear to be administered erratically, the players "peacock" after every play, and there is frequent verbal taunting, shoving, pushing and chucking after the whistle.

I'll be surprised if he gets the waiver.  It would be unprecedented, and would be a precedent for every player who wants to transfer to claim someone at his previous school called him a derogatory term.

Fields would have been far better to wait for his turn at Georgia.  Fromm will declare for the draft after next season, and Fields would have 3 years to start at Georgia if he doesn't declare himself before that.

Now, he'll have to sit out a year, then try to battle it out against a QB who will have one year as an incumbent starter and will be sticking around in college longer than Fromm.
