@roaminglion In Pa they announce every day, in the health department briefing, how many hospital beds are empty. The last I heard, last week, PA had like 60% of the hospital beds empty, around 50% of ICU beds empty. That can be looked up on the PA Department of Health website.
We were only about 35% inpatient occupancy at one point during the lockdown in the hospital I work. The opposite of over burdening the health care system was the case here in Hawaii. There was never really what you would call an outbreak here on the islands though.
Gonna throw my two cents in here. To me what it all boils down to is the price of human life and what a person deems is an acceptable death rate in order to watch a football game. In my opinion, if one life can be saved then I say lets hold off a bit until we learn more about this virus. I've seen enough of senseless death in my life and cant see the need to risk anymore just for the sake of pro/college sports. Others dont see it that way and believe in the "full steam ahead method" and let the chips fall where they may. Some epidemiologists think that there may be a second round come fall. If so, is it really a wise idea to pack a stadium in Piscataway NJ, or Athens GA knowing what risk could be involved?? In my opinion it isnt, others disagree and that's ok.
What i do know is that we can look-up and search data all day long and skew it so its fits our narrative but at the end of the day we'll have gained nothing. I guess I fall into the category of "dense" because I have no idea what Murray is trying to explain to us with his ramblings. So, if you're going to take a stand and intend to do so with data that you found, do it and dont flip-flop back and forth. Murray, Roam clearly pointed out to you how confusing your posts are and maybe that's your intention and maybe not but I will say this: please stop insulting our intelligence with your pointless and inane posts and please stop telling us that you've proved your point with facts and data. In the end, I hope you're right and this virus blows itself out and we can ALL get back to our normal lives. But as of right now, many of us arent there yet and I'm asking you to respect that.
As you were men.
smoke 'em if ya got'em.
Couldn't agree more with you on all points! Although I haven't experienced near the things you have, I experienced enough to understand exactly what you are talking about when it comes to senseless death. No sporting event is worth a human life! Although it pains me greatly to say, that was some good stuff especially form an ole leatherneck!! Semper Fi Shipmate!!
Oh and thanks for lighting the smoking lamp!!!

Thanks Cohappy, I went over to the PA Department of Health website and saw their "Hospital Preparedness Dashboard" with current numbers. It says:
Medical Beds: 55.2% occupied
ICU Beds: 61.7% occupied
Pediatric ICU Beds: 76.5%
Overall occupancy rate is 57% across all beds, which is close to the 62% normal occupancy rate (2018 numbers) for Pennsylvania. It's probably a tick lower right now because the state hasn't fully ramped back up it's elective surgeries yet, which brings in more people to the beds (in-patient electives). In Oregon they started back at 50% and moved up to 100% starting today. I wouldn't be surprised if PA was doing the same thing.

Glad to hear it was fairly quiet there in Hawaii psuinhawaii. Same here in Oregon, we were luckily spared the worst of it as well.

Admit it, you were impressed that this ole jarhead knew how to spell epidemiologist weren't ya?? Full disclosure.....I had to google it!! Good to hear from you swab, please stay safe in FLA. BTW.....how are things working out with your daughter??
good points tsuga. You’re right about the sports and we probably shouldn’t fill the stadiums if it’s not safe but IMO we can’t shut the country down again because if the government collapses we’ll have 200 million people starving to death and people will be begging for what we are dealing with right now and that’s including all the domestic terrorist crap that went on this past weekend. Hey brother I know what the end game is I just hope it ain’t now lol....the writing is on the wall though
I hear what you're saying brother and i agree that certain parts of the country need to be opened for business. Two of my son-in-laws are independent truckers and their tires aint moving much these days. They can get loads out of Maine but are having trouble finding anything to back haul. My daughter owns a daycare and she's down to a few kids and has had to lay-off her help, so yeah, we need to get back to work. Tourism is our big industry up here and as much as I hate to say it, we probably should hold off another month until we see if there is a spike in this thing or not. I'm sure glad im not the governor of any state right now. You're damned if ya do and damned if ya dont.
Looks like that got beaten to death and no one convinced anyone to change their opinions. Now maybe we can tackle something a little less inflammatory like global warming!
I'll second Tsuga's, to each their own.
You mean to tell me that I said something that made sense?? Damn, that aint happened in years.

She is doing really well! Thanks for asking! I’ll shoot you an e-mail tonight and catch you up.
@roaminglion Even in NY as bad as that was a temporary hospital was set up and never used and a Navy hospital ship was brought in for at least a month and only saw something close to 125 patients.

Okay... are you under some assumption that I was stating hospitals were being overrun or something?
Going to Beaver Stadium should be a personal choice.
