I was reading an article on pennlive asking the question. I think yes because he has all the records that mean anything for a QB. Wins, passing yards and running yards, he holds all the records. He also holds more records but to me these are the most important ones especially the wins. And he did all this recovering from unwarranted and unjustified death penalty sanctions. James Franklin brought in the right kid at the right time because McSorely was exactly what we needed  lol

Different era, offense, coach, & league.  Hard to say he was the best but sure his name is in that conversation.

Southern, using your own argument for LJ... you could say Kerry Collins was the best ever. He was QB of arguably the best college offense of the 20th century, and showed in the pros that he was extremely talented with a long career.

Against Illinois, Collins proved his worth. The Drive.

College stats can be very misleading.  Some get 4 years as a starter, while other maybe just get 1 full year.  Best example I can give is Evan Royster.  Not sure which or how many, but I think he is the all time rusher for Penn State, why??  was he that great, or did he get 4 years as a starter to pad those stats?  I for one didn't think much of Evan as being a great RB.  I don't think he did much in the pro's either.

Got to look at single seasons and what was accomplished that season.  So with that being said, I say Collins too!

You absolutely could roam but I’ve said many times the QB position is the only position that the best QB’s  in college might not make the NFL playing QB. I hope I’m explaining it correctly. NFL scouts even have a hard time evaluating QB’s. We knew LJ and Barkley would be good at the next level but with QB’s you never know. I don’t know how to explain what I’m trying to say. Who knows what McSorely might do in the NFL. QB’s are very complicated lol

As Ive posted before southern, and in  furtherance of your point, PSU will never be known as QB U, as far as the NFL is concerned..

THAT being said, BTW , I l love Trace as a college QB, great competitor, and spirited player, and tough as nails in clutch..I would think a coach's dream QB...But to answer your question, Kerry Collins..

D-Clark. MROB and McSorely are my kind of QB’s. I like the DT QB’s for college. Really I’d put MROB Sr year up against any QB we’ve ever had. 05 might be the 2nd best offenses we ever had and MROB is the reason why. He was a great leader and man  it showed up on the field. That dude took control of the game brother.

Why don't we just look at college performance? I think it would be among McSorely, Collins and they guy who won the national championship against Georgia.

I forgot all about MROB and D. Clark, but They didn't play as many games as McSorely and don't have all those stats.

Just because you win a NC doesn't mean you're a great QB

When Mcsorley took over in the Ga bowl game, I think we can all agree that we knew right, then and there he was going to be something special. Is he the best ever at Penn State? He is one of the best ever I would say.  Didn't John Shaffer go like 23-1 at PSU with one NC title as a starter? He should probably be mentioned in there too.

McSorley was fun and brought a lot of excitement to Penn State! I think what he did for Penn State will pay dividends for the next several years and it was great having him!

Todd Blackledge is the name you are searching for.

I can answer this question correctly because I made a T-Shirt after the 19-10 loss to Oklahoma in the Bowl Game.  All the hype leading up to that game with how Shaffer never lost a game as a starting QB from Pop Warner, High School, and now College.  He was 55-0 as a starter, well after that dismal performance in I think it was the Orange Bowl, my new T-Shirt read 55-1 !!!

But for PSU alone, yes you are correct, 23-1 starting record.

I only mentioned "the guy who won the national championship" because I couldn't remember his name

the sticky buns guy.  The fact that he just got us to the NC game and If I remember correctly, he was also a bowl game winner aside from the NC. puts him in the conversation too.

Absolutely Bob, Todd Blackledge is the man.  Not sure how many years he played though.

John Shaffer: 47.9 career passing percentage at Penn State, and the most yards he had in a single year was 1510.

Man, the 1980's were just a different time. Hard to really compare stats, and I never really saw him play so it's hard for me to argue. You guys say he belongs in the convo, who am I to argue!

It’s called a whole lot of DJ Dozier with an OL that would knock over a school bus. He didn’t beat us Roam and the defense was just plain NASTY!
