@been-there-ii  Florida won a couple of NC’s while Alabama was down but when the Tide got a good coach you see what the better job is? USC is the king of the PAC just like Alabama is the king of the SEC

@southern-psu-fan Guess it's all up to what you consider "better". In my eyes, coaching at PSU is the best of the bunch of college football coaching jobs.

It really boils down to what a coach is looking for: big city vs big pasture; seasonal warm weather vs all four seasons; out the back door recruiting vs better get on the recruiting trial; recruiting also means recruiting for assistant coaches and what they are looking for; updated facilities and money flow for future updating; micro stress from all levels.........and one of the most important, where does momma wanna be!

Some programs are simply just jumping on/off points e.g. 3-5 years, some are longer term, some are terminal; really just depends on what a coach is looking for.

@southern-psu-fan Absolutely southern, Id say USC is even top 5..Talent is right there, in their backyard which they own They just lack a coach,....and cheating or no cheating, Pete Carroll still would have won....JOhn  McKay, John  Robinson...great coaches who won there

Most powers, if not all, have their down years  OKlahoma for yrs was searching  for a coach, then Stoops rescued them...No greater example than Bama, who had a succession of bad coaches and yrs, after Bear....   Enter Saban and their rolling

Its very difficult to find  a great coach ,and perfect fit...once USC does, they'll be in natl title hunt again, there's talent  now on that roster...

An analyst on TV recently, acknowledging USC and LSU are two of greatest jobs in CF, said he'd take USC..

Explain why wins from the 60s and 70s matter? Oregon owns USC in the past 12 years, and that's a fact.

You always says on the field matters, but you dont really mean it. Somehow Oregon wins half the PAC titles in 12 years and now it's all about all time records. FFS pick a lane.

@roaminglion  click on the link Roam and read what CT said he understands exactly what I’m saying. Oregon will never be a powerhouse give USC the right coach and they are Alabama today. If you want to be delusional and think Oregon is a heavyweight have at it but it ain’t never happened and it ain’t going to happen because USC is the heavyweight top dawg of the PAC they always have been and they always will be. Oregon and other teams of the PAC can go on a run and have a good team like Tennessee and Florida but when USC has a good coach like Alabama they get back in the back seat where they belong. They just ain’t part of the big dawg family and you know it. Click on the link I put up and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

I mean, what exactly is a heavyweight to you? A team that craps the bed a bunch of times and need to cheat to win titles? Because that's the extent of what USC has done this century. Nothing.

At what point does Oregon get any respect? Do they have to win the PAC 12 75% of the time, not just 50% of the time?

Yeah, your link is very impressive. The heavyweight USC is 6-12 against Oregon in the last 18 games and only 2 wins in Eugene. Such a heavyweight. When does "a run" become... you know... a reality?

This isn't an argument about history, we all know USC has that. But dude, this century Oregon wipes is azz with USC. THAT IS A FACT. When it comes down to titles and head to head games this century... which matters more than 1960... Oregon is just plain better.

I thought USC won a couple of NC’s this century and lost one.

Once USC gets a HC that can recruit and a staff of coaches that can coach, USC is the top dog of the West coast (period) and becomes the  'Bama of the west coast. Oregon, Stanford, WA and UCLA become the SEC version of GA, Auburn, FL, LSU; they will be in the hunt but will have to play lights out to take it all. JMO.

How the HC plays out at LSU will be very interesting. Historically LSU is on average a 3-4 team loss/season.

Of course the same and worse can be said about PSU, so yeah, how the HC plays out at PSU will also be interesting.

@roaminglion   I do respect Oregon they have been pretty good lately I agree with you there but when USC hires another Pete Carroll USC will not only dominate the PAC they’ll be in the hunt for the NC every year that place is a goldmine just like Alabama, Ohio St and Texas. I still believe is Florida St gets off their butts and gets them a good coach you better watch them. Miami needs a stadium to get back in the spotlight lot of good football players in Florida. I’m surprised Florida ain’t taking advantage of Miami and Florida St being down

FL wasn’t much until Urban got there. So really no history of perennial  power house.

TX has done squat in 50 years with all the talent they drag in, and IMO, is a ledge down in its on mind.

FSU was squat until Bowden came on board and the recruiting game at that time was way different than today. I love Bobby’s quite about speed: you either have it or you are chasing it.

Miami: about the same situation as FSU but with crappy facilities or lack there of.

Bottom line is that a HC has a lot to do with but the other parts have to align for it all to work.

Steve Spurrier had a great run at Florida and won a NC and lost a couple and Meyer did pretty good to. Texas had a great run under Mach Brown and won a NC in 05 and they lost a couple as well but I agree with you it’s about how good your HC is. Slick Nick is good regardless where he coaches but you can see the difference when he’s coaching  at one of the heavyweights. That’s my point in all this, you put a good HC like Mack Brown at NCAR he’ll win but he’s not going to win a NC like he did at Texas. There’s a reason USC has won 11 NC’s and Oregon has won none. With the recruiting USC can do it’s not even fair to compare Oregon to them but that doesn’t mean Oregon can’t get on a good run and beat USC because they have it just won’t happen if a guy like Pete Carroll is there. Texas, Alabama, USC and Ohio St has had there years when they were down and not relevant it happens.

Yeah, once USC gets another coach like Pete Carroll they can cheat there way to some good seasons again. LMAO

Their NC was vacated because they were cheating.

@roaminglion I thought he won 3 NC’s but one got vacated? Give the man his NC back and give Reggie Bush his Heisman back while you’re at it! Maybe I should’ve said he has 5 OL playing in the NFL because that’s all that matters anyway

Ummm, no. They have not won any due to cheating, and that was only one. The BCS started in 1999 and USC won it once, and promptly vacated it when they were found to be cheating. Once the BCS was put in place, the AP and Coaches poll were meaningless. I believe the AP put them #1 in 2003, but that was mainly a FU to the BCS system. College football does not recognize the AP anymore to crown a champion.

Basically in 2003 they were #3 and left out of the BCS Championship. Same as we were #3 in 2005, and were left out as well.
