So, so close. It is very frustrating to see the potentially special season go down the tubes because 3 guys couldn't figure out how to block.

Does anyone on here disagree that if our center and 2 guards were even average, we'd be 6-1 or 7-0? I don't remember ever seeing such a terrible interior line.

Just to make sure I fired up the DVR and watched some past games, and our RBs are getting hit before they even get to the line of scrimmage 50% of the time. It's ridiculous, they have no chance.

Even a semblance of a running game would make this offense extremely dangerous, but those 3 are quite simple putrid.

It does seem pretty obvious doesn't it.  Even as bad as the run game is, and I have a hard time believing PSU misfired on tailbacks so bad, the 3 losses come down to 2 plays both related to Clifford getting hit.

1) getting knocked out of the Iowa game

2) fumble scoop and score at OSU

Now anyone can argue that there were 100 other plays that could have made up for those two, but I can not pick 2 more important plays.  Bad coaching, bad play calling, no backup QB, on and on, but not for those two plays...we would probably be still talking about the offensive line blocking....

So I agree, the offensive line is a problem.  The lack of a run game against any team this year means that the opponent does not take play action seriously and makes it even harder to pass block.  Bad run blocking exasperates the pass protection problem.

Mr Yurcich, what do you need?

Dont know if you guys heard or not but the BWI forum goes bye-bye after today.  I was over there for many years.  Anyway, the members there seem to share the same frustrations that you guys do over here. Last night's loss doesnt upset me as much as the Illinois game did.  There has to be some accountability for that loss.  I'm not on the fire Franklin bandwagon(yet), but I thought he could have manned up and put that loss on his shoulders.

I was impressed with our D last nite, but they just got gassed at the end of the game.  The pick and the fumble killed us.  Cain fumbling on the first possession was upsetting to see.

I look forward to chatting with you guys in the future.

Welcome!  I'm not saying I'm for firing Franklin at this point, but I have my brother who is a priest praying that he leaves for USC.  If he doesn't right this ship and salvage what's left of the season, then I'll beat the drum to sheet can his azzz.

Franklin's status over the next 4 games:

4-0: Probably safe

3-1: likely safe

2-2: AD may start thinking about hard decisions

1-3: Very serious talk of firing

0-4: Fired

Full disclosure, my only contract with PSU  is I pay them and they give me degrees of value.   They did that.  Now there is an assumed social contract that they will not degrade the value of the degrees I paid for which they violated with the Sandusky episode.  The football program has not devalued a PSU education.

I do not really pay for the entertainment/wins.   If I did I would be much more frustrated and I guess I'd have some right to be.

Do I like to be ranked above my ND, OSU, AL, NE and Pitt friends?  Sure do.  It really is hard to find a Pitt friend anymore so be happy.  They were once relevant.

If he loses to many more we will have to fire him and pay him out as nobody will take him.

Thanks for the welcome.  Your brother's a priest; that's a good one!!  I'm not sure that Franklin gets fired at all, especially with the recruiting class he has.  If he leaves for somewhere else, I'd like to see Moorehead or Yurchich become HC.

We have a really good QB and a really good RB committed for next year and I'm pretty sure I read that we have on of the top rated OL's committed as well.  New, if we can just get them to sign on NLI day we'll be fine.

That's all well and good, but in my estimation, what we really need is some solid 3 stars who are coachable and can be developed into capable 2nd string backups so we can weather the storm when injuries hit our starters

Did you frequent the wrestling room? I was a frequent reader but not poster because I goofed up my email and couldn't figure how to fix it. Any way, I will go to the new board but will not pay the $99/year as I understand the wrestling room is free but maybe that is for reading only.

For better or for worse I am a fan of Yurchich for HC. It might take a year or two to acclalmate to HC but I think the talent is there. If PSU doesn't make the move he will go on somewhere as an OC and eventual HC for somebody else.

I thought it was strange that we had a grad transfer come in from Harvard    And he became the starting left guard.  I mean we didn’t have a next man up ready to play  it shows the lack of depth.

I'm like you. I'd go to the wrestling room but I pretty much stayed in the corner and learned. Man, was there ever a wealth of knowledge in the wrestling room. There are guys on that board that are well versed in wrestling that I was pretty much intimidated by the little I knew

I agree. Is it just our team or aren't young men willing to sit the bench and learn anymore no matter where they play??

In my opinion, the new portal rules have made it easier for players to take their ball and go elsewhere. I know its been around for years. I just can't remember as highly volume of players using it as before. I'm all for graduate players going elsewhere to play. Would like to see the younger guys stick it out a bit more.

We should have seen the O'ine red flags during the Villanova game, or guys were pushed around by a FCS school.

I think so. I know the Tom McAndrews board is going away after today and is being replaced but I can't recall the name of it.

Like the other gentlemen said, they're charging $99/ year and that's too steep. If they offer a free board I'll probably stop over there from time to time.

Okay. Please take this in perspective; In PSU's case, recruiting highly rated skill players is nothing more than treating a symptom and not resolving the problem. IMO the problem is the lack of having a consistently good O'line. The best QB and RB in the country can be signed but it makes no difference if the O'line can't keep the D off the QB and can't open holes for the RB to run through. A porous O'line turns an exceptional QB and RB into an average at best positional player; turn the table and an exceptional O'line turns an average QB and RB into very productive positional players. JF is the coach of potential, highly rated recruiting classes that fail to deliver; in other words, he hasn't done crap with the recruiting classes that he has brought in and in the end, having potential means you haven't done crap. Okay that is a little harsh but the fact remains the same, the puzzle has come together; either get a HC coach who can put the pieces together or keep an incomplete picture of potential.

@psu61 I believe 90% of us on here have been bitching for years about exactly what you posted, lack of a O line which started during the BOB era and has been lacking ever since.

I've mentioned a few times the academies; I am serious when I suggest that that line of coaching be tapped into. Can you imagine what an academy coach would do with the recruits that that get hauled into a top 10 D1 program? I don't know if its been tried or not, but I can't help but think there has to be merit to that line of coaching.

I don't disagree with anything that you said but you gotta start somewhere. Coming in with the #1 recruiting class is a good start. We've had a long history of sub-par offensive lines. I honestly thought Trautwein was the answer as he had success everywhere he went. I'm hoping 🙏  that once "his" recruits get to age in to the line, we'll see better results.

The new board is called "On3". For one year you can get a premium subscription for $1, after that, it will be $99. I understand there is a free  subscription as well. I would put the link up but feel it would be disrespectful to the founder of this site as competition.

Good point. I've noticed a difference in the boards already. There seems to be more respect for others' points of view here than it was on BWI. Am I way off base there or have you noticed that too??

Although I'm gonna miss some of the crazy stuff they talked about over there.
