would you rather be a four year back-up and go to the CFP every year or a four year starter at a lesser school and never get to the CFP?

4 year starter and never get to the CFP. One way you have a .01 chance of making it to the NFL, and the other you'd get a decent look from scouts.

Plenty of QB's never sniffed a NC and went on to win the Super Bowl, almost all of them in fact.

I'm probably gonna catch a lot of flak for this but If I committed to a college than I would honor that commitment and stay, prepare myself to play every week, back up the starter, and earn a degree at a top notch university.

I certainly understand why these young men transfer and I dont look down on anyone that hits the portal; especially those who have earned their degree and want to play somewhere else.

I understand that there are Russell Wilsons that transfer and succeeds, but there are also some Justin Shorters that transfer and have a comeuppance.

4 year starter for sure. It worked out well for the Manning brothers and their dad Archie (though I suppose Tennessee wasn't a lesser school for Eli at the time.)

I use to be a once u commit you stick with it believer but the bottom line is if you wait for something to happen it may never happen and there u sit. I’m a firm believer in always be prepared, don’t become complacent, don’t blame others for your lack of progress and be humble and appreciative to those who do help you. Sometimes you have to make a move to get playing time, get on the projects you have an interest in, etc.. In some cases life is just too short to have the journey controlled by someone else.

All I would ask people who say pick a school and stay there is this... Who ever said it was a 4 year commitment? If you are choosing a school and they are giving you a 1 year scholarship that can be renewed or terminated, why did we ever think a kid leaving is "breaking his committment"?

A 1 year contract is just that, 1 year. In the past when kids transferred they had lived up to it. If schools only give out 1 year scholarships, any kid who stayed a year fulfilled his committment.

I was not thinking of transferring. It was merely a question of whether you would want to be a starter (no CFP) or a back-up (always CFP).

@brownale since all I did was hold the clipboard anyway playing football I’d rather be the backup playing in the playoffs  😁

I'd rather be a starter at Uconn than a back-up at Alabama. Player not a watcher!
