From what it sounds like to me is that we need Ohio State to win Saturday and skip the Big10 Championship game.  If Ohio State would somehow lose, we win and then lose to Oregon, we could go from hosting a 1st round playoff and #5 seed to #8 or higher and be lumped in a bracket with GA, Tenn, Oregon and Boise State.  If we don't play in the Big10 Championship, we would then face Indiana at home and then Miami ( if they win the ACC ) and then we would face the winner of Texas vs SMU/ND game.  I like this bracket better, I think we have a great chance of advancing deep.

Funny how after tonight's ranking, they have Tenn vs GA and Penn State vs Indiana.  If GA beats Texas in SEC game, then they would mostly likely swap the two and keep the SEC playing a first round game in warm weather.....bunch of wussies!!

This could and will mostly likely change after this weekend and then again after championship weekend.  It would be nice for Penn State to make the Big10 Championship game and win and get a #1 seed.  But I would rather face Indiana fist, then possibly Miami and then Texas.

I didn't think/understand that losing in the Championship game could  cost you in the seating.  I thought it would ONLY determine the #1-4 seeds and the loser would still maintain their current ranking. They need to re-entertain this.  Think about.....if PSU makes the Big10 game and loses, they can and mostly will fall behind teams in the final ranking who sat at home and didn't play in a championship game.

I guess the best thing to do is squash the Turtles so we at least know we are in the playoffs!! And then we can all complain about the seating later!!

GO STATE!!!!

Interesting possibilities.

At this point in the season, the chips fall and a team just has to play it out, imo, the ideal run is winning the BIG and the Championship game. That should buy JF another year, lol!

Seriously though, just win out or don't drop a big game turd.

@psu61  just get in the playoffs and win baby! I don’t care who we play because I believe we matchup against all teams except Ohio St. ain’t a team out there that plays defense like Ohio St and Penn St that will be in the playoffs. Michigan does but they ain’t going to be in the playoffs. It’s all about matchups. I definitely want a chance for a big 10 championship title so I’m pulling for Michigan Saturday.

Oregon got Ohio State earlier in the year at home so that advantage Oregon big time but give ‘em credit they got the win. IMO we matchup great against Oregon if we get in the big 10 championship game on a neutral field I love our chances beating Oregon. We got a young good football team I’m not scared to play any team out there especially with the fire I’m seeing come from DA. We gotta want to get in these championship games and win ‘em. 10-1 with a new DC and OC jelling at the right time. I believe that game Saturday at Minnesota woke something up big with this team. That was a hard game for any team to get the win it was Minnesota superbowl on Sr day. With DA playing like he has the last few weeks and James Franklin letting it all hang out I’m not scared to play anybody today. This team has found something baby. I’ve heard all year about what Washington and other teams lost and you know what, we lost a lot of good NFL football players too and we’re still 10-1 probably going to finish regular season 11-1…just saying.

The B1G runner up is not going to finish as a lower seed than the B1G 3rd place team and the highest we can finish without making the B1G championship game is #6.

No way in hell is the committee putting a runner up lower than a third place team.

Yes !!! It would make no sense for them to seed a conference #2 behind a #3. Not only would they get hammered for it but it would also set a terrible precedent moving forward.

@psujoe

The way I saw it explained on ESPN was....If we would make it - (and that is about a 5% chance IMO) - and lose, we could fall back to 8,9 or 10 possibly costing us a first round home game. That would keep us in front of Indiana and still keep them in the picture.

I saw another take to today where it said if Ohio State just out right let Michigan, that would put us in the Big10 Championship game and Ohio State would take our spot which everyone is agreeing is a lessor bracket to get through vs where Ohio State is slated as of today.

From what I am seeing, there is more focus on the National Title game and very little on the Conference Championship game. And I don't doubt for a minute these coaches are looking at the big picture and what gives them the best chance to go deep into Title Run.  The Big 12 and AAC Conference games are different, and these two conferences could really make it ugly.  There is a chance the Big12 could have a 3 loss champ and Tulane could win the AAC and only have 2 losses.....and they are currently ranked 16 and 17 respectively. Who are you putting in?

The rules of the 12-team CFP guarantees playoff bids for the five highest-ranked conference champions -- period. That does not mean it's a guarantee for the Power 4 conference champions. In theory, all five conference champions could be from the Group of 5.

That number 12 spot is like the number 4 spot last year....or at least like it was for Penn State back in 2016. Things could completely change after this weeked. The way this season is going across the country??? Whew!  Penn State needs to stay focused and take care of Maryland.....or it could be the cheeze-it bowl for them!

GO STATE!!!!!!!!!!!!

@mtnittanylion  I don’t trust the CFP committee anyway and after hearing this we might have guys sitting out to not take a chance of gettin hurt and have teams trying not to win. Find a way to get 8 conferences and do 8 conference championships games and do an 8 team playoff system and the season is over for all the other teams that way every single game means something. We see teams not trying to win all the time in the NFL so don’t say that won’t happen because it will eventually.

@mtnittanylion With the B1G east and west divisions no longer existing the 2 best teams will make it into the conference championship game so you can’t compare 2024 to 2016. I just don’t see how the conference runner up can finish below the third place team and highly doubt it will happen.

Just need to stay focused and pound the crap out of MD this weekend and if we do we will finish no lower than 8th.

Will never happen because the NCAA does not control the conferences, and due to anti-trust laws the conferences are not allowed to "collude" with each other. This sets up a winner take all mentality for each conference.

I guess the way they could do it is let one conference gobble up every DI team and then divide them into groups how they see fit, but I'm sure at some point people would sue saying it's a monopoly.

Thank lawyers.

To me this is all crazy talk...Penn State will be 11-1 after the regular season...If they make it to the B1G championship game and lose to Oregon who is the #1 team in the country and the only unbeaten team left I believe...How can you not have them not ranked 5 or 6? their 2 losses would be to the #1 and #2 ranked teams in the country...You going to tell me with a straight face you would rank a 3 or 4 loss SEC team ahead of em? I ain't so sure Notre Dame beats USC tomorrow...For arguments sake if they beat USC you can put them at 5...PSU shouldn't be lower than #6...A conference runner up with 2 losses to the #1 and #2 ranked teams in the country should under no circumstances be ranked any lower than 6...I also feel that Indiana should be hosting a playoff game as well...They got 1 loss on the road to the #2 team in the country...They won all of their games...At what point do losses matter? Does it take 3 or are we talking 4? It's gotten to the point of being farcical which it has been for some time now anyway...
