@roaminglion oh anyone can make tough decisions...we all make them.  The key is getting them right and usually when you make a decision you don't know if it was right because you don't get to experience the result of the other possibilities. 

But the grass is always greener.  But the devil you know....

Nebraska fired a coach that was over 500 and was going to bowl games and now they have 'their boy' who for some reason can't win a close game...in this situation they knew what they had and now they know what they traded for.  Maybe the game has passed them by, but they still wish for the early 90's and a weak conference.

No, not anyone can make the tough decisions. Many ADs make the "safe" decisions and don't risk rocking the boat. Ever.

Risks need to be taken sometimes, and not everyone is up for it. Sometimes they work out and sometimes they don't. Nebraska's problems are much more than just firing Solich.

I've said that he comes off too much as a salesman.  It was good relative to Paterno rarely selling but it is a fine line.  Truth still matters and you lose credibility when you..... I'll spin it nicely....over embelish.

Grandad would say 'I don't have to tell them what I can do...I'll show them'.  My wife says the youth of today are very self promoting, maybe related to social media.  So maybe it doesn't bother the players.  Maybe they just think 'It's James being James'.  

But in retrospect that 1-0 is getting old, especially after two weeks of 1-0 before IL and no QB.  Truth would be:

1-0, 1-0, 1-0, 1-0, 0-1, 0-1, 0-1, 0-1, evaluating how we might improve our run game against MD

@southern-psu-fan I was thinking Bo but maybe both make the point.  I was working from an old biased memory.  I don't like NE but they have been medocre to bad for so long now I'm statting to feel sorry for them.  They have declined at the same time their schedule got tougher,  even in the B10W.

One thing I like about Saban is his message, doesn't ever talk about winning. No "1-0", no "play hard to win", nada.

Just play you best every down, that's it. That is what he wants, the rest will take care of itself.

Rhule is the guy to replace Franklin. If our coach heads to Hollywood, like what happened with Cael Sanderson, alumni need to step up and get Matt Rhule who successfully recruited guys to play in Philadelphia.

I guess I just don't quite get all the Matt Rhule hype. His best season was 11-3 and we keep knocking Franklin for having 2 loss seasons and not getting over the hump.

Rhule did the same thing Franklin did at two schools, brought back from anonymity or scandal and did well. However, Franklin's record is better than Rhule's was:

Franklin did it at Vandy in the SEC, and won a Big Ten title at Penn State in year 3. Rhule won a title at Temple in a lower conference, and never won a Big 12 title at Baylor (who had recently won 2 Big 12 titles)

I believe we’ll have James Franklin next year I’m just not gettin the vibe I was getting about him leaving. I’m good with it but he’s got to get it done next year. If he does leave I’d love to get Moorhead or Yurcich as next head coach I really don’t care which one both will be good.

Agreed, either one would be fine by me.  However, I think JoMo would stick around for the long run.  Yurcich is young and I'm sure more foot loose and fancy free.

I said it all week Penn State could win this game! That defensive TD killed us, but the play calling was something else!! I just don't get it and I never will! 

 

I kept my eye on the left side of the offense and Clifford could have passed for at least 7 first downs....it was there just like Oregon did! 

 

Oh well, it wasn't the blow out most expected! Ohio State is very lucky that JF went to the right stadium today!!

I agree with alot of this . I have said for years that JF in game coaching and play calling is some of the worst I have seen when its a tight game . He almost always gets outcoached in the 4th quarter . I just looked over OSU 's roster and next year they have alot coming back . They are a pretty young team . We need a coach who will  go cut throat with the likes of Saban ,Day etc when it comes to recruiting . OSU 's QB is from California .So is Chris Olave . Henderson RB  is from Virginia . PSU still needs to reach further on recruits

JoMo would be an excellent choice. Mike Y would be a good choice as well; I think. I don't think Fickell ends up at OSU, why not add him to the potentials? Fickell I could actually see going in to the pro ranks. 

 

Bottom line is you have to have an exceptional recruiter for both players and assistance coaches, and exceptional player development program. Who's the man that fits the criteria?

I lost ALL faith in JF when he kicked the FG vs Kentucky in the Citrus Bowl in the fourth quarter. I was sitting right behind the team on the 40 yard line. I was yelling at him, the fans were yelling at him and EVEN the players couldn't believe that he did that. The defense could not stop Kentucky all game and now all of the sudden it was about to change with 4 minutes to go??? McSorely was on a roll down the stretch and then you had the likes of Freiermuth, Thompkins, Hamler, Dotson and SANDERS for one last shot at a first down....from the 14 yard line of Kentucky? You were down 27-7 and now your offense is on fire and it is 27-24? WHy would you kick a FG and put the game in the hands of a defense that struggled vs an Offense that was on fire? 

 

Don't go back and watch THAT game!  It will make you sick to see that offense in action the last quarter!!! LOL
