Just thought of another possible reason for Urbs to take the SoCal job. He's currently tied with Slick Nick as the only coaches to win a National Championship at 2 different schools. He could go into the record books as the only coach to win one at 3 different schools. As far as taking a pay cut, I don't know about that. I don't believe giving him the money he wants would be a problem for USC!
@rip: BK, Why not toss this forum into the circle. Hell, we have all kind of experts on here.
Lake as HC....he seems the most level headed.
Roam, Tae, and whoever else posts the breakdown videos on here as Co-Offensive Coordinators.
SPF and FD as Defensive Coordinators......they both seem pretty scrappy.
Hey, maybe I started something here. If we had to pick a coaching staff from our members, who would you pick??
@roaminglion yup because it's not like him to do anything like that lol. It would definitely make more sense for Franklin to go and any PSU fan thinking there no chance he leaves is in denial.
Doubtful that USC is the most stressful job in college sports.

So give me an example of when Urban Meyer took a million, 2 million, or 3 million dollar paycut to take another job? Or when he left a job after less than a season. Yeah, I'll wait.
LMAO....You'd think someone that thinks he knows everything would know it's not always about money. There are rumblings that he's already losing control and things could deteriorate rapidly in J'ville and if it does Urbs could be looking for an easy out. Things could turn around and maybe they'll even make the playoffs but as of now it appears as though it may get ugly.
"Urban Meyer, Jacksonville Jaguars coach: Meyer is leading an NFL team with the No. 1 overall pick in Trevor Lawrence. So, why would he leave after one season? Well, simply put, the NFL is not for everyone. CBS Sports insider Jason LaCanfora reported Monday that there are already problems within the Jaguars organization: "The inability to adjust to the pro game. ... Belittling coaches. Treating every setback as if it's the end of the world. Morale was so low going into that [Week 1] game, and there has not been cohesion among that staff, particularly between the college guys and the pro guys.Steve Spurrier and Nick Saban both spent just two seasons in the NFL with Saban eyeing his exit to Alabama before his second year was even complete. It's not out of the realm of possibility for Meyer to pull the ripcord given his departure history at Florida and Ohio State. USC would be more than a comfortable landing spot for Meyer if he decides his NFL experiment is not worth continuing."

"It's been 1 game. LMAO... anything's possible." - me before this post.
Literally replying to someone stating it could happen, I just don't think it will. Try reading the posts next time.
If Franklin leaves that’s good for him and better for PSU. I want a coach that desires to stay at PSU until retirement. Consistency is impressive. Bryant, Bowden, Paterno, etc, are my type of guys.
Just saying... the average tenure of a college coach is 3.8 years and Franklin's been here 8. I'd say he's earned a bit of trust regarding leaving. However, if he does I wish him well.
@roaminglion oh so now it's not all about money? Wish you'd make up your mind for once and stop flip flopping.

I will also wish him well. If he leaves it’s because he wants to. I prefer a coach that does not want to leave. As an old school guy, I struggle with the new dynamics of major college athletics. I wonder if the pendulum will some day swing back. And yes, by modern standards, 8 years is above average. Saban has been at Alabama 14 years, Swinney, 13 at Clemson. They make an average of 13.5 years.

When did I say it was "all about money"? LMFAO, is this third grade? One example out of a few and your acting like it's the only thing I said.
Do you like being this big of a troll? Sad.
@roaminglion: Roam, I'm certainly not an expert but I'm guessing you're one, maybe two posts away from being called a libtard.

Oh I'm sorry, must have been a different "roam" that posted that.

A third of college football coaches are fired within 4 years and another third stay more than 6 years so staying for 8 really isn't that impressive.

Roam is to dang strict to be a liberal 😂
This is the 2nd go round with this Franklin to USC stuff...It ain't happening...I am amused as to why anybody would think the USC job is a step up from the Penn State job? I do think that B.O'B is an interesting fit but I think he is just biding his time to get back into the NFL again...I don't think Ole cousin Urban has any interest in that job either...I just don't think the USC job has the luster that it once had 40 years ago...The guy I could see them pursuing is P.J. "row your boat" Fleck from Minnesota...I think he would be a great fit there...I don't see an established big name coach leaving a successful program to go there...
@the-funeral-director just my opinion but I think the USC job is as good as any for a good coach just look at the recruiting advantage a good coach could have. All the PAC teams take a backseat to USC. James Franklin would definitely be a great get for USC but he’s just to happy at Penn St but just not to take a chance Penn St needs to step up the money so he doesn’t even think about it.
I read today where Urbs stated he has no interest in the job.
@the-funeral-director I don't think I've heard anyone say it's a step up. What they're saying is that Franklin would be a great fit because of the talent in the area and his recruiting abilities + the enthusiasm that he brings. I don't know if he'd go but I think he'd take USC to a level that's not possible for him at PSU.
As Southern stated PSU may have to step up and pay him if they want to keep him.

I am not James Franklin but I am as certain as a person could be that he has no interest in that job...He has built up this program and is on the cusp of making this program an elite program...I just don't see him wanting to leave now...He is a Pennsylvania guy and I just don't see it...I don't see any established head coach from a major program leaving their program to go to USC...The coach that I think would be the best fit is P.J. "row your boat" Fleck from Minnesota...An up an coming young coach is what they are going to end up getting out there...
And we all know Urbs always tells it like it is! Besides, when Slick Nick was coaching the Miami Dolphins he stated he wasn't interested in the Alabama job. I think it was a few weeks later, he was introduced as the new head coach of the Crimson Tide. I wouldn't believe any of these guys.
I hear ya but in this case and with only 1 game in, I don't think he would take this job, at least in this cycle. Just my opinion though and I've been known to be right just one time in my life and that's when I got married, at least this according to my life
