See Link. Lot of similarities between when Diaz does and what Pry does/did at Penn State. Major difference was how much more complex Diaz's pressure looks are then Pry and how he asks his DTs to do a lot more than what Pry asked for on blitzes. Much harder for QB's (Kenny Pickett in this case) to figure out who is coming and who is dropping and far less of the safeties blitzing from another zip code with no shot of getting home.
Good stuff!! Saw this over on Nittany Lounge. Thanks for posting this. I really appreciate all you do.
@t-hale my uncle and brother are diehard Cane fans and they told me good luck with him then I told my uncle I believe he’s a good DC and my uncle said Texas fired him because he wasn’t gettin it done. Time will tell but I believe he’ll be good. We have really good defensive players so he’ll have good players to work with.
@southern-psu-fan: I've been pretty much hearing the same thing. Don't know if it's angry Cane fans or legit.
Either way, I'm thinking we're a stepping stone and he'll be a HC somewhere else.
I just hope he's not as predictable as Pry was.
Let me put it this way... Diaz had success before and after his stint in Texas. Who was coach of Texas at that time? Mack Brown. Mack had lost the team and was going down the tubes, Diaz was a sacrificial lamb and the defense didnt get better after he left.
Where is Mack Brown now? UNC. Who has one of the worst defenses in the nation since Mack Brown got there? UNC. Take that for what it's worth.
Texas has sucked for 50 years minus a few good blimps; Any body that would hang there hat on what Texas has said they've done and what somebody else hasn't done outta have a lobotomy. Good grief, tell the same lie enough times to the same audience and a damn lie becomes truth; that's why I tell my boy he has the God given innate ability and genetics to think for himself and he'd better use it or else fall prey to the fools and blowhards.
Miami is set-up to be a strong team next year because of Diaz. My hope is that he has learned from his past successes and his mistakes. Pry had moments of brilliance but the performance of the defensive players at critical moments was maddening. Far too often they failed to get to the quarterback, stop a runner or defend a pass.
@tae-buetel Tae, I’ve about give up on Miami. He really did stink it up at Miami they just flat stink but that’s him as a head coach we’ll have to wait and see how he does as our DC. We have good players so he should do good I’ll be pulling for him that’s for sure. Gotta give the man a chance.

He did no better or worse than any other coach at Miami since they joined the ACC. They are a 4 or 5 loss team almost every year, 10 wins just once since the move. They are what they are, mostly because of facilities. The Orange Bowl was taken down and their other work out buildings are 2nd rate at best.
Miami isn't what they were in the 80s or 90s, they need to invest big to catch up.
Diaz will do a good job. I predict he will call the plays from the booth because it will be warmer there than on the field.
One scotch, one bourbon, one beerrr, the D shall show no fear and the mastermind shall look down from the skies and set the hunters loose.
no implied message, just a rambling morning thought, lol.
@roaminglion my daddy told me years ago that the ACC would destroy Florida St football and it did , it also destroyed Miami and VT lol… you know my dad was a huge Dawgs fan and SEC homer lol
I always thought the following teams woukd have made up a cool conference:
Penn State
Syracuse
Boston College
VA Tech
ND
NB
OK
WVA
FSU
Miami
Cool in conference games and throw in some matchups with the ACC, BIG, SEC and PAC10

I'm not so sure about Florida state being destroyed by the ACC, considering they won a national title in 2013.
I think it's more a case of Jimbo Fisher bolting for A&M, and then hiring Willie Taggart. He set them back years, Taggart was a trainwreck
@roaminglion Jimbo got out of dodge because he knew he didn’t have a QB. Jimbo is a better coach than Chizik but both dudes had stud QB’s when they won NC’s. Jimbo did the right thing because A&M paid him a boatload of money. Dude recruits good but he’s an average coach. Stud QB’s can hide a lot of flaws.

Other than Saban, who's the last coach to win a NC without a stud QB? LMAO
@roaminglion JT Barrett and Jamarcus Russell and like you said some of the Alabama QB. Clemson is average without a stud QB. Russell and Barrett played on stud teams, good QB’s but not stud QB’s

Jamarcus Russell was the #1 pick in the draft and JT Barrett finished 5th in the Heisman voting even after being injured.
Sorry, try again...
And please don't try and tell us Russell wasn't a "stud" QB again, as stated he was the overall #1 pick in the NFL draft. That's just plain ridiculous.
@roaminglion Cam was a stud, Russell was average just like Johny football and both were a waste of a pick in the draft. JT was a good QB but regardless who the QB is at Ohio St they win they just have stud teams.

Lol, #1 pick in the draft. Sorry bud, that's just plain wrong. You don't become the #1 pick by being "just average" in college.
I never thought Russell took a game over like cam and Vince Young could he benefited from a great defense because I believe LSU lost 2 games the year they won the NC. He probably was better than average I just was never high on him. Only the Raiders and Cleveland make that kind of moves. My wife sent me the picture last night I got to get my butt on the Bowflex lol
Sometimes a collegiate player is a man amongst boys and gets away with sheer athletic ability but, you can see this during game time and know damn well it’s not gonna work in the big league.
I asked an SEC all American RB years ago what separated an all American collegiate player (RB, lineman, QB) from a player who made it in the NFL, he said, the cognitive ability between the ears. He further stated, think about it this way, in college your play book is basically a syllabus and in the pros it’s the whole book you have to learn and put into motion. He further stated figuratively not every player can learn the book nor are they committed to learning the book. Throwing a ball 80 yards or running a 4.3 40 only gets you so far in the League. He was a good dude to talk to, straight up and humble. He didn’t make it in football but is a very successful health care provider now.
@psu61 to make it in the NFL you have to do everything right and have really no weaknesses. What’s so great about the NFL is they set up the schedule for you to play 500 ball and leave it up to the teams to do better. One year you win the Super Bowl the next year you win 2 games, that’s how competitive the NFL is. I’m a college fan but I do like the NFL and I believe the best athletes in the world are in the NFL. Just my opinion though. All pro sports are competitive but the NBA and MLB it’s usually the same teams that dominate kind of like college football.
