ESPN’s Mark Schlabach: No. 12
Big Ten: No. 2 Ohio State, No. 4 Oregon, No. 10 Michigan, No. 23 Iowa, No. 25 USC
“Somebody has to challenge Ohio State, Michigan and Oregon in the Big Ten, and with Washington rebuilding, I’ll go with Penn State for now. The Nittany Lions have struggled to score against good teams (Michigan and Ohio State), so coach James Franklin hired Kansas offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki to boost the passing game, which ranked 80th in the FBS with 215 yards per game.” — Schlabach
article is on Pennlive and has us #12. I believe Michigan takes a big step back this years and gets their butts handed to ‘em a few times. Washington and Oregon will be Washington and Oregon when they play teams that play defense just like Utah. The big 10 will come down to Penn St and Ohio St and I believe we get it done. Im feeling pretty good about the team and the changes at OC and DC especially DC because we have some studs on defense. If Allar picks his game up it will be a very special season because we will be in the playoffs 😁 I don’t believe in having much patience with Allar he better be clicking game 1 and better be lighting up WV defense or it’s time for another QB this is year 3.
I don't know Southern. We do have the studs on D, but I hope we don't miss Manny. I'm waiting to see what Allen brings. I agree about Allar. If he doesn't produce early, yank him and give Pribula a shot.
@rip I didn’t mean to sound like I was knocking Diaz I just believe Tom Allen is a very good coach and he’s got a boatload of studs to work with. I can’t wait to see #11 coming off the edge playing DE. I remember how good Tim Shaw was playing DE coming from the LB’r position but I believe #11 will be more like Arron Maybin very fast and getting to the QB. Tim Shaw was just a dang good football player regardless where he played. It’s sad what he’s going through I wish there was a cure what what he has. Lot of people suffer from it ALS it’s a brutal disease to go through.

You are so narrow minded sometimes. “Washington and Oregon will be Washington an Oregon” LMAO !! Washington is in total rebuild mode so yes they probably won’t be very good this year but it has nothing to do with them joining the B1G. Oregon is a couple steps ahead of everyone in the conference except OSU when it comes to recruiting and coaching and I’m glad we don’t play them this year because they would most likely kick our asses as bad as OSU will.
Oregon is the clear #2 in the conference and we will continue to be second level. I’m going with my usual 9-3 prediction for regular season and the typical JF loss in the post season to make us 9-4 followed by the usual excuses by you.
@psujoe I’m not making excuses it’s you saying Washington is rebuilding because you know we will kick their ass when we play them and we will also kick the shit out of USC and UCLA. They don’t have the studs on defense homer and it will really show up this year with these PAC 12 teams playing competition every week you just wait and see. 12-1 baby is what I’m going with.

its not an excuse it’s a fact that Washington lost 3/4 of their players and their head coach and are in total rebuild. It’s also a fact that Oregon has been out recruiting us for years and are the only team in the conference that has a chance vs OSU.
9-3
I didn't think you were knocking Manny. You're too smart of a fan not to appreciate the heck of a job he did with our D guys. I hope you're right about Allen. It's just my hangup to reserve judgement 'til I see someone produce! Anyway, I agree about Shaw. He was one heck of a football player. Wish him well in dealing with his condition.
@psujoe we played in the peach bowl last year homer and won the rose bowl 2 years ago. We had 9 starters sit out in the peach bowl and I didn’t make excuses when we took it on the chin. It’s part of it just like Washington losing a few players and their coach. We lost our OC and DC and that’s part of it.

LOL oh yes you did use that as an excuse . But Washington loses 3/4 of its roster and its head coach and that has no bearing according to you. Washington lost 3/4 of their players not “a few”.
9-3 with at least one stupid coaching decision.
Allar going into his third season, RB duo with tons of experience in their third seasons and a relatively easy schedule compared to teams like Michigan. If JF can’t win this season he never can. No Oregon, no Michigan or USC games. This is as good as it will get to get to a Big Ten Championship game. JF will shit the bed and the boomers on here will blame the coordinators not Allar. Same thing happened in Pittsburgh under Canada, JF and his QB won’t have to take any responsibility.
I believe we play USC, Wisconsin, Ohio St, Washington, UCLA and WV the rest of teams we should beat up on. Homer says Oregon recruits better than we do and they lost to Washington 2 times last year and Washington got man handled by Michigan the game wasn’t even competitive. Missing Oregon and Michigan this year probably ain’t a good thing because I believe Michigan will be average the next few years they take a huge step back losing Harbaugh and their starting Quarterback. Oregon IMO is the team with the cakewalk schedule. It’ll be interesting to see how the season goes I’m looking forward to it. Yes it’s definitely time for Allar to step up and if he struggles to start the season I don’t think the dude has it but I’ll be pulling like heck for him I know that he can get off my chit list if he gets it done 😂
I agree with what Kularrow said about this being as good as it will get for a path to the Big Ten Championship. We have what should be a great offense and a very good defense and miss the top teams outside of Ohio State.
If we can't do it this year, we can't do it. I fear that we are going to be very, very good but some boneheaded decisions in big games with be our downfall. I hope not, but that's been the script since 2016.
@roaminglion I’m more concerned about the QB play than I am missing Oregon and Michigan when both teams have new QB’s and Michigan having a new coach. Just my opinion though
I am more concerned with the in-game decision making of our head coach.@roaminglion I’m more concerned about the QB play than I am missing Oregon and Michigan when both teams have new QB’s and Michigan having a new coach. Just my opinion though
When is the tipping point? A 9-4 10-3 season has to be considered a failure especially with the push to donate to NIL funds and step up in competition inherited from the old PAC12. They’re getting a 700M renovated stadium. When will enough be enough if we just see more of what we’ve seen like you said since 2016.I am more concerned with the in-game decision making of our head coach.@roaminglion I’m more concerned about the QB play than I am missing Oregon and Michigan when both teams have new QB’s and Michigan having a new coach. In game decision making, the offensive line and the secondary are what concerns me. QB and Rb’s should be solid as should the linebackers and D’line. I like what we’ve done so far with the wide receivers but they’re obviously still a work in progress.I am more concerned with the in-game decision making of our head coach.@roaminglion I’m more concerned about the QB play than I am missing Oregon and Michigan when both teams have new QB’s and Michigan having a new coach. I'd love to share your optimism about our QB, but I honestly just don't know what to expect from him.In game decision making, the offensive line and the secondary are what concerns me. I'll just say I hope he starts to test defenses vertically.

Was he really that bad? His stats say no. I guess we’ll find out if the downfield passing game issues were the fault of the QB, WR’S or coaches. No matter what happens I think this is Allars final season in State College.
@psujoe stats are one thing but they don’t tell the whole story. Go back and watch the OSU and UM games. Terrible.
@kularrow the Ole Miss game was pretty bad the kid just couldn’t make anything happen and when Pribula come in off the bench and threw a TD pass he got benched and I still ain’t figured that out. I’m sure James Franklin has his reasons I just don’t know what it is.
A lot of questions are going to be answered in week one. We’ll find out if Allar has it or not at WV.
IMO the season starts in LA on October 12th. If we aren't 5-0 going into that game, something is very, very wrong. @USC, @Wisconsin, and Ohio State... that's our season right there.A lot of questions are going to be answered in week one. We’ll find out if Allar has it or not at WV.
With the new playoff system does the CFP committee still vote the same way? With 12 teams I’d rather just take the top 12 from the AP and let them fight it out on the field let the chips fall where they fall! I can’t stand the CFP committee. With 4 teams I like just taking conference champs that would’ve been awesome but the CFP committee screwed that up.
