@been-there-ii I don’t know if there is a home run coach. there’s a few coaches out there that people want but I don’t see a home run. The Missouri coach ain’t done shit since Pribula went down heck James Franklin would still have a job if Pribula was our QB and Terry Smith has done a better job of coaching than the Missouri coach if you just look the competition we’ve played vs who they’ve played. IMO get a dude that fits in at Penn State that’s a good coach. IMO Manny and Fitzgerald are great fits at Penn State and this decision should’ve done been made to stop the bleeding and probably would’ve had stud dudes on defense start thinking about transferring to Penn State. None of these dudes are home runs like some of y’all think they ain’t none of these dudes slick Nick like people might think. We ain’t goi g to have a team left if this shit keeps dragging out. There is no home run coaches out there that’s on the Penn State radar it’s just a bunch of good coaches and which one would be the better fit for Penn St. decide and get it done asap and stop the bleeding.
Maybe grabbing the shiny object is the right answer. Maybe the existence of NIL and the portal has raised the importance of the "splash hire". Getting a "splash hire" will certainly influence the initial interest of players, fans, and the boosters. But what is the long-term outlook for a "splash hire"? Is Alabama happy with its "splash hire"? Was Billy Napier a "Splash hire"? Was Brian Kelly a "Splash Hire"?
Maybe the correct answer is finding an undervalued coach who is able to find undervalued coaches and players and is able to build a cohesive, motivated, and determined team. Maybe the right answer is shifting the compensation package to a small base payment and a significant majority being dependent on performance and results.
Are we basically waiting on a team like A&M to go on a losing streak so we can try and get their coach for losing? That sounds terrible but it’s kind of true lol

I still say there’s no real information that supports the stories some of the blabber mouths on podcasts and sports news sites have put out about us having interests in some of these coaches. It’s been very tight lipped at PSU and I can’t even get much out of my sisters husband that does have a few contacts plus the little he did give me was wrong anyway.

It will be almost funny if we had our guy for a while and all this speculation has been nothing more than agents starting rumors to get their guy a raise.

If some guys transfer out with James Franklin which some probably will we won’t have a whole team left. What’s going to be bad is we get a coach that we could’ve gotten already and we let all these good recruits walk for nothing. I hope they’re smarter than that. The season isn’t over till the end of the month for most teams so what coach is out there that we could have had already other than someone like Meyer or Gruden?
And to be honest a lot of these players and coaches do need to walk. This program needs a reset.

And how do you know we haven’t had a plan for when things went south ? This was a do or die season for JF and everyone knew it so I’m sure the planning started long ago. We may or may not have a guy lined up but if we do you’re not gonna know until his season is near the end. I don’t know when he’ll be finished but I suspect there won’t be any legit info until his season is nearly over.
I'd say the new coach is already locked up and is basically using this time to evaluate the current roster and staff, and when he rolls in, his game plan is already in motion.
Also, Cig's approach and success may have laid out the model for building a team through the portal, and aside from a generational talent and even if that, recruiting may not be the primary focus the first year or so, but rather building success with experienced portal players and holdovers while establishing the program as the landing spot for tier high school and portal players. It will be interesting to see how HS recruiting evolves in consideration of NIL; there is a point where the money boosters say, "I wanna see results not potential", and they are not gonna throw money away at that level.
The playing field has changed and will continue to evolve! In fact, I think the big money boosters are now really going to get involved because by nature they are intense competitors as individuals and within their own professions and will not want to be a loser amongst their professional/business peers.
