Imagine how good and balanced the divisions would be if the Big Ten had just made one change to how they aligned things: Swapping Michigan State and Purdue.
With Frost now at Nebraska, I think everyone believe they are going to be a power again. Of course nothing is certain, but even money says they will be good. If MSU was over in the west, this is how it would break down:
Top programs: East - Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan / West - Wisconsin, Nebraska, Michigan State
Mid-level programs: East - Purdue, Indiana, Maryland / West - Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern
Bottom Feeders: East - Rutgers / West - Illinois
Those divisions IMO are well balanced. Over time I think the East would be better at the top, and the West better in the middle... but both divisions would be competitive and do well year in and year out. I like it this way much more than the current situation. This to me makes a good compromise between short and long term balance. And it's also geographically sound
I like the break down of the divisions you came up with. Certantly something should be done for a more balance conference. Im getting tired every year if Wisconsin walking into the chsmpionship game.
