I’m beginning to think Drew Allar is the better quarterback. I understand the reasons the coaches are staying with Clifford but his periodic bad decision making will hold PSU back.
Clifford gives us the best chance to win and this is his team. Drew is the future and we are lucky to have him but it’s not his time just yet. 5-0 baby
I respect the heck out of Sean Clifford. Tough kid who has never wavered from his loyalty to Penn St. With that said, he continues to make the same mistakes as a 6th year player that he did as a freshman/sophomore. He throws off his back foot, he doesn’t see the whole field, and misses open receivers. Yesterday with a few minutes left, he was flushed out of the pocket, and instead of staying in bounds and sliding to keep the clock running (I don’t think NW had any timeouts left at that point), he threw the ball away out of bounds that stopped the clock before PSU had to punt. He can’t make those mistakes against a good team. It’s gifting the other team another chance to win. Also, I was at the game yesterday. It was an absolutely miserable day with the rain. I get the wet ball turnovers, but he can’t just throw the ball up when pressured which he did a few times. I understand why they are starting him, but at some point, Allar deserves a chance.
It's a real fine line 99. His chance will come. I would have liked to see how Allar would have performed yesterday facing some adversity, but if I was coaching, I probably would have stayed with Cliff too. I'm just a firm believer in going with experience in situations like that.
In the little bit of time Allar has had to play he has showed that he is the better QB. If Cliff keeps making poor decisions he is going to cost us, the passing game needs to get a lot better or there are a couple L’s coming. Cliff and Pinegar worry me a lot.
@rip I understand, but if Cliff wasn’t a sixth year super senior he probably would have been pulled in a few occasions. I don’t think coaches can afford to coach that way any more. You have to get the best talent on the field ASAP regardless of eligibility. You are seeing it pay off at RB and LB right now.

Cliffords poor play was a major contributor in why that “situation” even existed. Throwing off the back foot, poor pocket presence, missing open receivers and just not having the ability to make certain throws have been major contributors in the lackluster play of the past 2 weeks.

It seems like he’s being coached not to run like he used to do and he’s just not comfortable throwing the ball away when pressured.
I predict that when Drew Allar’s time does come, many will ask “why did this kid not start last year”?
@sky probably. Just like when Trace got his chance after Franklin stubbornly playing Hack despite his lackluster play.
@psujoe That’s unacceptable after 6 years of D1 football. Yet, when they need him to slide and run out the clock, he inexplicably throws it away. Again, unacceptable. He’s not a freshman.
In today’s game, talent beats out experience at the most successful programs. Trevor Lawrence, Tua, Bryce Young, Stroud, etc.
@rip How many years has Clifford started 5-0 and ended up with a losing record ...
How much of that was due to not having an experienced back-up BOB? Now we do. If Cliff isn't getting it done, I agree, pull him. So far this year he's getting it done, we're 5-0!
@lionbacker99 them are some great football teams and their WR’s catch the ball even when it’s not a good throw. Clifford can’t never get real hot because the WR’s drop to many balls in critical situations. IMO Drew’s time is next year. Biggest problem we have is drops in situations that puts games away. Clifford does need to play better but he’s still gives us a better chance to win.
