I've  been biting my tongue because although I don't particularly care for Bill's constant criticism of Hack, I respect his right to do it.  Also, I usually agree with Bill's views and appreciate  his sharing his expertise.  However, Bill, I don't understand why you question why some of us "pull" for him "because he was here".   I for one will continue to "pull" for Hack and all former Nittany Lions as they pursue their dreams.  I guess it's just my way of remembering them for their contributions to my Alma Mater.

I agree with you Bob, he definitely has the right to express it... I wasn't saying he doesn't. My first post was actually a bit of tongue and cheek, joking because we all kinda know he's never liked him. Which is fine, nothing wrong with it.

That's why I ended my last post with "Just own it". He doesn't particular like Hackenberg, not sure why... but just own it. No one else from Penn State hanging on by a thread in the NFL has ever gotten the "go away and use your degree for something else" treatment, so why Hack? LMAO

In the end, I actually didn't particularly like Hack in the end either... He seemed a bit arrogant and unwilling to accept coaching. It is what it is

Roam, it's not that I'm a Hack fanatic, the only point I was trying to make is that I always did, and will continue to "pull" for former Lions in their future endeavors.  I agree with your assessment about his personality (e.g. arrogance and  uncoachability) and I'd also add he has a bit of a foul mouth after yesterday's miked performance.  However, I still hope he makes it!

I always pull for penn st players to do great in the NFL even if it’s against my dirty birds because penn st and penn st players always comes first with me.

Who the hell are any of us to tell the kid to quit?? If its ok for a kid to transfer to another school to chase his dream and keep playing ball why should it be any different for Hack??  We are all aware of his struggles and shortcomings.  The kid keeps getting back up, dusts himself off, and gets back into the mix.  I admire him for that.

I say:

"Chase your dreams Hack.......as long as they're not wet".

Memphis Express sticking with Christian Hackenberg at QB

https://www.commercialappeal.com/story/sports/2019/02/11/memphis-express-mike-singletary-christian-hackenberg-aaf/2841994002/

Apparently Mike Singletary and his staff see something in him, they have 3 QB's on the roster to choose from.

Thanks for the pick-me up, LOL.  I'm glad to hear Singletary is sticking with Hack.  I also liked his comments and hope Hack busts his butt and puts it together for his coach as well as himself.

My Daughter was a JV Cross Country runner her Jr year.  Made Varsity her Sr year and was the slowest of the starters but finished #3 at the end.  She would not run in college, wanted to study but kept training, running and competing independently.  Now 26 years old, her 5K time would get her in the top 5 of the PIAA AAA times and she has won 4 or 5 half marathons ( her specialty) nationally in the past 18 months.

A good friend of mine was an ok wrestler in High School, not very good in Elementary but won a NCAA Div III title his Sr year of college and almost qualified for the Olympics...placed 3rd in trials if I remember correctly.

I am sure we ALL can pin point somebody who never peaked until later in life and Hack could be another story line in the next few years. ALL I KNOW is the comeback against Michigan in the 4 OT win was a wonderful evening and if that was his highlight at Penn State, then so be it! But boy was that fun!!!

Good Luck Hack!!!

Lol at you guys.  Hack was a locker Room splitter. Battled with franklin, cost them a bunch of games because he refused to listen. Called plays on the field that they didn’t send in. Wouldn’t accept any developmental ideas from the PSU staff. I’ve brought that up before. The biggest problem for franklin was he had to keep him in or get absolutely destroyed by fans and media because everyone still thought of him as a savior for PSU. Plus he had a kid he wanted to develop named Trace and not rush him in. Whether you want to believe it or not Hack was only good for psu one year, the year he stayed committed. Once Obrien and a team of future NFL players left he did nothing including thanking the psu coaches, which he didn’t do.  I have a hard time pulling for someone like that. I’m entitled to my opinion as much as you guys are entitled to pull for someone that just isn’t a very good Qb. Everything I just stated is 100% true. “Keep chasing your dream”. At what point is it time to realize that dream isn’t going to happen?

You basically just proved my point Bill. You don't like him, and listed the reasons why. It's okay, all I said was just own it and you just did.

As I said before, my first post was kinda half joking because I found it funny that every time his name came up I knew we'd get a "he wasn't good" reminder. LMAO

Bill I have a question. Not looking for controversy or to be belittled but trying to understand. You say Hack is/was nothing more than a good HS QB. If that is the case how did he get selected to participate in the combine? There is a screening process and they only invite about 12 QB’s give or take each year. Also, how did he get drafted? I would think that all the scouting expertise and NFL staff would have known either through his career at PSU or combine performance or both that he was below average for a D1 player let alone NFL quality. Seems like people see more in him than just a good HS QB or they wouldn’t have invested effort time and money in trying to develope him. Same with AAF, they did a draft and he wasn’t a first round pick but wasn’t the last either. There are 3 QB’s on Memphis roster but after their preseason they selected him to start. If he is so lacking on talent how does he keep getting these chances?

Like I said, not looking to be controversial or pick a fight but just trying to understand. Thanks.

pretty simple actually, it was an EXTREMELY weak QB class...someone wanted to take a chance.   it's that simple....and the Jets took that chance.   They don't invite guys to the combine they know are great, they invite guys to be evaluated to see where they fit in the draft. I wholeheartedly believe that if the Jet's didn't waste an early pick on him, he'd have gone in the 6th/7th round.   Once they drafted him, they HAD to invest in developing him....and it failed.

How does he get those chances?  Especially in the AAF?  Well, does ANYONE know the other two quarterbacks?  Who puts more butts in seats and in front of the TV? Mettenberger, Cook or an embattled QB from PSU that obviously had a pile of PSU fans tuning in.   If I was the owner and those two were my other choices...and if they didn't crush Hack in tryouts, he's my guy..  I want people watching....It's a business first and foremost

Roam.....He's a nice kid in person,  he SUCKS as a QB and a Teammate.   Don't put words in my mouth.  I can't say I don't like him.   I don't like him as a player maybe.

Mt Nittany, the difference between Warner and Hack is Warner was a VERY good qb in college, just got drafted by the Packers the year they brought in Farve and Detmer. Two years later he was still a good Qb and got back in the NFL.....again, the difference is he was a good QB....needed time to develop a bit more and did so in the arena league.  Hack had several years to develop with NFL team and failed. As for your other comparisons, from HS to college they got better....Hack didn't...period....

You are spot on Roam.  I'd like to add, that is why I respect Bill's comments.  He backs up his opinions with his reasoning.  I'm not about to say anyone on here is right or wrong,  but I really like Navy's reasoning.  A lot of different football experts have seen enough in Hack to give him an opportunity to play.  As long as he keeps getting a chance, he'd be foolish not to give it another shot.  I'll keep pulling for him!

I think the reason he gets all these chances are because of statistics.  The prototype NFL quarterback is 6'4'' or taller, big strong arm, etc etc etc.  On paper, he possesses all those qualities.

I should have made that clear Bill, I meant as a player. I had no idea if you ever even met him, so I did not mean personally.

I don't know Bob.  There are plenty of guys with the prototype physical characteristics who don't get the chances Hack got.  I think its something more.  Whatever it is, it doesn't appear to be a great predictor of success!

I still believe Hacks freshman year he was damn good because I remember on many plays on 4th and long Hack put the ball right on the money and picked up first downs. Yes he had great players around him but he was money getting the ball to the receivers. I also remember BOB getting on his azz when he made mistakes and it happened many times baby. Hack was so good NFL scouts were licking their chops saying if he was old enough to leave college he was a first rounder and these dudes get paid to know these things. I honestly don’t know what happened to the guy except he would not listen to James Franklin and it bit him in the azz later on. Just my opinion plus look at the yards he threw for his freshman year that doesn’t lie?

He was NOT damn good....go back and watch how his receivers were damn good and his RB bailed him out.  he was surrounded by NFL talent his first year.....would have easily been a Natty title with Paterno still around.   And now, new findings by members of the board show that the Freeh report was completely bogus and still the powers that be hide....

I used to think Hack was a casualty of a terrible OL, change in coaching, bad coaching, wrong system, bad publicity but after watching him this past weekend....simply said, he just isn’t very good at any level. I watched him do the same things he did as a freshman, launch it downfield and hope his best receiver catches it, which he didn’t. On another issue, I think I’m seeing a little ticky tacky push back on billmurray. I’ve met the guy several times and I don’t believe he holds ill will towards anyone (except Pitt) let alone Hack, but he isn’t shy about expressing his opinion. And yes, he is on field level talking to coaches and reporters so I respect his opinion. All that said, I might be reading responses wrong just like I can’t predict a wrestling match worth a spit.

We definitely agree on the 2012 and 2013 teams  stacked with NFL talent all over the field having a great chance to play for the NC Murray and so did Jim stinking Delany because that chithead seen the tide turning in Penn States favor and that’s why that creep stepped in and piled on with the crooked ncaa because you’re right it was a bogus scandal. With Hack maybe he was good with all that talent around him and I’ll admit I was licking my chops knowing we was going to have him for 2 more years because I thought he was very good especially for a true freshman. I thought he just had the 2nd year slumps but his Jr year after the Temple loss I told my son Brett that Hack just ain’t got it brother. I’ve never seen a QB fall off that bad. Hopefully he finds his way because I will pull for him because he played at penn st. He was a butthead towards James Franklin though and I was disappointed in him for that.
