Starting QB out for the season? Not a problem , just plug in the next guy and keep on winning.
Man we screwed up big time.

We hired a coach that wanted to bring his players when we should’ve hired a coach that wanted to step in and keep the Penn St studs that’s what screwed us. It’s going to take time for MC to build the team back up but I believe he’ll get it done it’s just going to take a few years something I didn’t want to do but I gotta just deal with it. It’ll be a tough few years then we’ll be good again unless Penn St wants to spend a lot of money which I ain’t seeing after what happened with AC.
Chesney brought multiple players and coaches to UCLA with him. WTF are you even talking about?Starting QB out for the season? Not a problem , just plug in the next guy and keep on winning.

@roaminglion he didn’t bring his QB to be the starter and how many did he bring? MC brought 30 or more players not a select few. You may as well face the facts Roam, MC turned Penn St football into Iowa St and that’s why we’re getting our asses kicked…period!
10 players from James Madison vs 30 or more from Iowa St give me a freaking break!
I don’t want to hear last minute hire shit either MC had the opportunity to keep the Penn St studs he choose the Iowa St guys because he thought having his players give him a better chance to win..period! There is no excuse!
please tell me that you're not this willfully ignorant... you do realize that UCLA didn't have over 50 roster spots to fill because of people leaving right?10 players from James Madison vs 30 or more from Iowa St give me a freaking break!

QB leaves before the other arrives? "Trust me bro he knew"
LB gets roughly same amout of money at UT? "...but, but, but he said he wanted what he was worth" even though what he was worth was apparently just about the same as here

Neither do the losses piling up at Penn State. MC is stubborn and maybe a in over his head. I fell really bad for Becht, but his career ended last night and it is really time to move one passed him and Carson. If Campbell is REALLY building the foundation of who they want to be, then it needs to start vs Purdue and he needs to try and salvage the rest of this year.
GO STATE
MC talked about the HC/QB relationship and the fit etc. during interviews and yeah, after three years as a starter and a year left, no surprise that MC wanted to move forward with Becht.
I think any QB on the side line can read that implied message and Grunk wanted to be the starter and he got no indication from MC that was going to be, so he moved on.
- Met After Hiring: Grunkemeyer sat down with Matt Campbell and offensive coordinator Taylor Mouser shortly after Campbell was hired at Penn State to discuss the team's plans and offensive direction.
- Prior History: The two already had a relationship because Campbell had previously recruited Grunkemeyer when Campbell was at Iowa State.
- The Decision to Leave: Despite those conversations, Grunkemeyer ultimately decided to enter the transfer portal—with reports indicating Campbell was prioritizing quarterback Rocco Becht, leaving Grunkemeyer looking for a guaranteed starting role elsewhere (he later transferred to Virginia Tech
Roam, read the above post from 61. Like I said the roster is on MC he’s the HC so the play on the field is his fault! There is no excuse!
Yes Grunkenmeyer met with a man who had previously recruited him, who he already said no to once, and decided to follow another coach who he had previously said yes to 2 years prior.Roam, read the above post from 61. So he chose the same guy he chose previous, and said no to the same guy he previously said no to.
Somehow this equates to some of you as "he left because of money" or some other nonsense rather than he wanted to follow a coach he obviously trusts and likes.
Despite those conversations, Grunkemeyer ultimately decided to enter the transfer portal—with reports indicating Campbell was prioritizing quarterback Rocco Becht, leaving Grunkemeyer looking for a guaranteed starting role elsewhere (he later transferred to Virginia Tech.
MC wanted Rocco and I’m pretty sure the other players like Amare Cambell was told the same thing.
Imo for Grunk, he wanted to be a starter, MC didn't give him the nod as he had it locked up with Becht.
Grunk sat behind DA because of JF's loyalty to DA, so he already ran that game and knew what it looked and smelled like, but JF didn't taint him all the way through, Grunk knew JF was loyal, and probably put the same on MC, he ain't pulling Becht at any point; and what sucks worse than thinking/knowing you're the best player for the scheme but gotta ride the pine because of loyalty, nothin.
So JF leaves, needs a QB and gives Grunk the nod to start, so Grunk trusts and follows JF. JF gets a known, Grunk gets a known and gets to start, win win.
Had JF not given Grunk the starting role at VT, then Grunk would have probably gone somewhere else as a named starter, which apparently is all he wanted. Yes, that is speculation.
Gotta say, some of these situations would make good case studies considering the dynamics at play.
@psu61 I’m pretty sure that’s the position most of the Penn St players was put in that left. MC wanted his guys and he got ‘em.
Campbell prioritized Iowa State players over players from anywhere else and it was obvious. To say he didn’t is beyond ridiculous.
Yeah because reporters were in the room with them. "Reports" more like rumors?Despite those conversations, Grunkemeyer ultimately decided to enter the transfer portal—with reports indicating Campbell was prioritizing quarterback Rocco Becht, leaving Grunkemeyer looking for a guaranteed starting role elsewhere (he later transferred to Virginia Tech.

I am saying no one knows why Grunk left, or if Matt Campbell wanted him to stay. It's beyond idiotic to think Grunk leaving to be with his other coach, the one he chose in recruiting in the first damn place, was all about Matt Campbell not wanting him? Anyone claiming Grunk would have stayed "only if" is just speculating. You have no effing clue what the kid would have done.Campbell prioritized Iowa State players over players from anywhere else and it was obvious. To say he didn’t is beyond ridiculous.
Also, I am not talking about other players, at all. I talked about 1 player... so making it out to mean I am talking about all those ISU players is beyond ridiculous too

Where did I say you did that? Your insinuation is way beyond ridiculous.

@psujoe That said... LOL
You were definitely right that we'd be in a better situation right now had Kraft locked Chesney down (if he could have) rsther than dicking around in the search

The thing with Chesney I fear the most is where will he be in 3 years? If he continues down the path he’s currently on in a couple years another school will offer him big $$ and hire him away from UCLA.
I think Campbell is working with two lines that stink, especially the DL. If he can recruit (we shall see) then we'll be in a good place. If he can't then we're in trouble...@psujoe That said... LOL

So after the portal this January we will know a lot, and hopefully it's that he can get kids to come here after being established and in place
Think he is not sitting pretty at #9 in the AP right now? See the remaining schedule they have? USC at home the last game of the year is the biggest challenge they have. Playing Michigan at the Big House is always a challenge, but after last night, I don't think Michigan is very good.
GO STATE!
