@psujoe they’re 11-1 and are good football team and Brian Kelly is a good football coach, probably will end up being great.

If you all want to know how a 16 team playoff would look all you have to do is look at the Division 1 FBS tournament...In one of the semifinal games the #8 team played a team that wasn't even in the top 8...The #8 team is going to the finals against the #2 team...So don't tell me that there shouldn't be a 16 team playoff and that only the "big dogs" belong there...To rob a team from being able to compete is the crime here...To compare the jimmy dean-PubG-chick-fil-a-meineke muffler bowl where most of the better players on the team ain't even playing to be competition then you are as convoluted as the so called "committee" of "experts" are...This whole thing is a farce and has been from day 1...Just because this so called playoff is superior to the other system is ridiculous...I am 59 years old and I think back to all the great upsets that I have seen just in my lifetime...All the champions that if the so called "experts" had anything to say about it would never have had the opportunity to compete...As a former athlete I find all of this offensive...I honest to God do...What is supposed to be a sporting event and competition has been reduced to eye tests, style points and a "committee" of "experts" deciding who plays and who don't...That is why this whole thing is and always will be a farce until they expand this thing to 16 teams like every other division in college football decides their national champion...As far as BYU losing to UAB this was a glorified home game for UAB who traveled to Shreveport to play what was a home game for them...They had the motivation as the decided underdog to beat somebody from a major conference...BYU had nothing to play for on the road without any of their players who decided to opt out...Again these meaningless bowl games really aren't even worth watching...
@the-funeral-director football ain’t basketball ball FD it’s a lot more physical so there wouldn’t be as many upsets like in basketball when you put these lightweight teams up against the big dawgs. Players sitting out is part of the game today so all teams deal with it. Players sitting out ain’t going away so teams better recruit to replace’em if you have a player to sit. Best teams usually win is the bottom line regardless of who sits out injuries and players sitting out is just part of it.
I’ll take 16 teams but it’s just a huge drop off after 8 teams. Just the way I see it anyway
@southern-psu-fan I'd welcome anything more than 4 teams....even if it means 4 slots going to $EC teams. 🤣
brother southern...I cited football not basketball...I also want to tell you that I suffered far more severe injuries during my basketball career than I did playing football...Basketball is a very physical game...But the 16 team playoff is this years FBS division 1 playoff...

I played both, there is no comparison in how beat up you get during a football game. Linebacker's, lineman on both sides, and running backs get absolutely torn up much more serious than any player experiences in basketball.
In basketball you can play multiple games a week, there is absolutely no way football players could play 2 or 3 games a week.
Guys, I wasn’t taking a shot at basketball because it is a tough sport, it’s just not as physical as football just like Roam said.
I have 2 cauliflour ears, a totally disrupted left knee ( 3 torn ligaments and cartilage ), torn ligament right knee, broken nose and concussion from my wrestling days. To this day my back isn't right from moving and bending body parts some 50 years ago. I'm amazed I found a wife.
@been-there-ii Well, I can look back some 50 years and say it was fun but the weight management not so much. The term management is a joke, not eating is the reality. Good or bad wrestlers, I have the utmost respect for these guys and girls. Come March, all wrestlers are dinged up one way or antother. I am biased but no sport requires more head strength and discipline the wrestling. You can not believe how good tsuga's grandson was and all that he accomplished.
@southern-psu-fan Hey southern, we're on same wave length..Filled out my pool yesterday, picked Georgia...Theyve been best team all yr, and its about time Kirby won the big one..Of course pools are low risk, a 20 buck investment that I never win anyway....I must admit if betting $1000 at a sports book, Id be afraid to bet against Bama BUT this time Ga will have the psychological edge...The boys at ESPNU put it into perspective today, the Bama team that showed up for SEC final, was the old Bama, that has been scarcely seen all yr..Who will we see NY'S Day..
You may be underrating UM..There are sports hosts who believe they can win it all..WE were both right on JH , I remember you being in his corner as was I..He didn't turn stupid overnight.
@culture-thrives Yes sir! He needed to groom his QB and stop taking transfers they’re transferring for a reason and we see the results now that he has his QB. Merry Christmas brother
@southern-psu-fan I think JH is back, too southern, to the physical football, that made him so successful at Stanford...Big OL,and running the ball down people's throats..
Speaking of which Ive heard more than one analyst mention the increasing trend of teams running the ball in the NFL...For one, the Phila Eagles have turned their season around running the ball, with your PSU boy Miles Sanders, and Jordan Howard leading the way For the last 7 games or so, the Birds have won 5, and are averaging about 200 yds per game on average...and theyre not the only NFL team running the ball...The whole season flipped when they started running the ball..Miles had 18 carries for 131 yards last night..
Thanks southern...and Merry Christmas to you and your family..
I have arthritis in both hands, torn rotators in both shoulders, ONLY one cauliflower ear and a collapsed disc. Outside of this, I am still handsome as ever....even with the 60 extra lbs and gray hair!
Here is the funny thing!! My daughter signed us up for Karate in Jan 2019 right before Covid hit. First off, it is the MOST humbling thing I have ever tried. I am now starting year 3, just got my purple belt two weeks ago and I HAVE NOT HAD ONE CORTISONE SHOT in either should since I started....and I was getting two every 6 months!! My Discs? I have been doing spinning classes, dropped 20 lbs and I have not had very much pain in the back. Hands? I had arthritis in 6 fingers, exact same three on each hand. 4 of them have stopped hurting and I am still getting cortisone in two.
I am telling you Lake, you got to keep moving at all cost!!! What we did when we were younger was brutal!! But eating right, stretching and staying active is the key!!! If all we do is 25% of what we did when we were teenagers, that is more than enough to stay healthy!!
ONLY TOUGH GUYS GET CAULIFLOWER EARS!!!!
For you old ex athletes, lol, if you haven't tried Hot Yoga or Hot Vinyasa, join up, it's a humbling experience beyond humbling, lol. Give it a three month run, 3 days a week.....
I hit the Bowflex every morning and do push-ups and dumbbells. If y’all were professional clipboard holders like ole southern here y’all wouldn’t hurt so bad. I was one of the best clipboard holder in the whole state of Georgia baby I could hold and write with the best of ‘em 😂
Good stuff Mtnittanylion and Psu61. Yes its important to keep moving. I view myself as a fairly fit 70 year old, spinning 6 days a week for an hour at an average pace of 90 RPM's, 17.5 miles, burning 650 calories.....quite a sweat shop. A fantastic orthopedic surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic gave me new life with 2 total knee replacements and 1 hip. Unfortunatley, good friends and beer keep my belly rounder than it should. Both ears have been reconstucted years ago so I am not quite as handsome as you MtNit. Staying active in our Autumn years is critcal to insure we can do the things we love.
MtNit..sounds like you had quite career on the mats to earn that "trophy ear". Congrats on the purple belt. Psu61, I'll look into hot yoga and hot vinyasa.
Sorry!!! Can't resist!!! Do you do the dumbbells while you are selecting your weekly TOP 5? If so, it surely makes things much clearer now!!!! LOLOL!
Ok, that is as funny as I can get!!
GO STATE!!
PIAA 4th place (AA). My weight class was LOADED my Sr year. I beat one eventual state champ in Regions, one eventual 2x state champ first round of states ( he was a Soph), a defending state champ in the second round and then lost 2-1 to a returning state champ in the semi's....who then lost to a returning state champ in the finals.....who then went on to be a NCAA champ for Penn State!
Lake, I am talking 1 to 2 point matches between us all. I lost in the concy's 4-3 to the same kid who beat me in the regional finals. He was an unknown but only had 1 loss going into states. He lost in the semi's too to the eventual Penn State NCAA champ by 1 or 2 points. I always said, once you make it to states, you can through out the records. Some guys are tournament wrestlers and peak late in the year.
I still keep in touch with a lot of the guys I wrestled with.....we are ALL legends in our own minds! LOL. But it is funny how us grapplers can sit at a bar and remember every match, the score and names, but we can't remember to lift a toilet seat, our anniversaries and what our wives ask to pick up at a grocery store!!! LOl
And you ????
@mtnittanylion y’all must have been some bad dudes because ole southern thought he was bad until summer of 1986. I hadn’t been put on my back or even close to it since 1984 my freshman year We were in Cedar Fall Iowa for Nationals and I won one match in freestyle then I got pinned 4 straight matches. Man I got the living chit beat of of me. We did Greco and freestyle and in Greco I got pinned twice being thrown to my back. Ole southern pride was destroyed it took me a while to recover 😂. I had never wrestled Greco before but I found out real quick It wasn’t for me 0-2 pinned twice lol.
@mtnittanylion You had a very successful high school career, better than mine. Did you do any post high school wrestling? In my day the PIAA was 1 and done, no wrestle backs. A few of us "Old" wrestlers get together for beers and I'm always amazed how every year their records get better. All in fun though. No other state but Pennsylvania puts out as many NCAA qualifiers, AA's, finalists and national champs. Anyone good enough to place in the PIAA is good enough to wrestle in college. Thanks for sharing mtnit.
I was recruited by PSU and WVU. The guy who won my weight class went to PSU and my only loss in duel meets ( my Sr year ) was a state runner up at the next weight class and HE went to PSU. Wasn't sure I would beat either of them out, so I ended up at a Div III school where I lettered but never made it to Nationals. Honestly, I burnt out and found life after wrestling while in college. Took a shot ( ended up being a long shot) at the olympic trials but then found out just how good I wasn't!!! I was all set to go to WVU, but I just couldn't do it!! NOWAY could I go to a WVU football game after going to Beaver Stadium!! LOL
I ended up with daughters, no boys and you know what Lake? I am glad this is how it worked out for me. Wrestling is a brutal sport! And I am not taking away from any other athlete here. But that starving, taking water pills, having size 34 jeans in the summer and 27 in winter, eating mosquito fly wings for dinner, dreaming of cold streams of water at night (because you are sucking down 7 or 8 pounds to make weight) from dehydration, weighing yourself 10 times a day up until weigh ins, watching everyone eat a school lunch while you have a plastic sweat suit on running around to drop 1 pound that you don't even have to lose, spitting in a cup on the way to a duel meet because you are still 1/4 pound over weight......and feel free to add!!! LOL
BUT.....I would do ALL over again. I think there is a creed among wrestlers, we ALL seem to stick together years and years later! I ran into a young girl at a bar in Baltimore about a year ago. She is friends with my daughter. Don't recall how we got on the subject, but wrestling came up. The next thing I know, I am on her cell phone talking to her father who wrestled with me in The AAU's for a Summer tour that we did. Haven't seen or heard from in 45 years. Now we text each other several times a year.
Dang!!! You got me almost back in my singlet!!!! LOL
The REAL State champs were the ones during your time. No AAA and AA and only a single elimination. When they raised your hand, there was NO guessing about it!
We took top 3 from Districts and top 4 from Regionals. One of my best friends was a 3 time state champ....and NEVER won Regionals. Back in your day, he would never won a single title!
