@southern-psu-fan Not every conference will have 2 worthy teams ... winner only. But if one conference has 3 teams at 10-2 or better - maybe 3 make it out of that conf.
Here is how you know this whole setup is rigged...EVERY other college football playoff bracket has 24 teams...FCS...Division II and Division III all have 24 team playoff brackets...Have been that way for 50 years or maybe more...My question to all of you is this...These teams don't have the budgets that major college football does...Billion dollar stadium and facility upgrades etc...YET they can manage to play a conference schedule and accommodate travel and maintain academics for those football players to get through a 24 team playoff schedule...All we have heard is cock and bull story after cock and bull story as to why it isn't feasible for the biggest money college football tier in the country to be able to do the same thing...These people insult everybody's intelligence...It's about CONTROL fellas...It isn't even about money...It's about CONTROL...I ask why any network would have any say in how a National Championship Tournament would be set up? or have a say in who is playing or not because their so called viewership data favors one team over another or in ESPN's case their conference business partners team gets favorable treatment over other conference teams viewed as competitors to their network interests...You got 5 out of 12 teams from the SEC in a 12 team tournament they would put 11 teams in a 24 team tournament from the SEC...I don't want to hear any of the garbage about how none of these teams have a chance...If you have any experience in sports whatsoever you know as long as your playing you got a chance...You think that way the Jets don't win the superbowl in 69...Mets don't win the world series in 69...U.S. Hockey don't win the gold medal at the 80 Winter Olympic games...Villanova don't win the National Title NCAA basketball title in 86...I could go on and on...These tournaments are about competition and giving worthy teams who EARNED their way in an opportunity to compete...That ain't happening right now and that is why I ain't watching and why this whole thing is a farce and an insult to your intelligence...
@the-funeral-director 24 team playoff is good with me and that all we get. That’s 48 teams take the top 24 so the rankings still matter and play football because every game means something. I like it FD. Man I loved the bowl season but it’s run its course it’s a different game today.
I still like Gruden's model.
Also, imo, when we are talking about football, lesser smaller programs just don't have the horses to run with the big boys, week in and week out due to the overall athleticism and depth at each position. When a traditionally 'smaller program' beats a big boy, it's generally due to a one off season for the big boy program.
However, now that NIL is in play, that talent gap disparity is starting to change and smaller programs are in a position to make a run at the big boys, but, imo, that disparity of talent and depth will take a few more years to get closer. Once the Tulane, Texas Tech, Ole'Miss, Washington State, Iowa State, JMU, North Texas programs, etc. start pulling off 10 win season on a consistent basis, then, I think one can say disparity is balancing out. But it still takes a hell'uva coach to meld all of that together into wins.
I recently read a Fran Tarkington statement that went something like, You can have 40 all-stars on a team of 40, but it only takes one to "F" it up, and you gotta get rid of that one.
Have a cup of Joe.
What we have is fine, the only issue is Notre Dame is whining because they were left out in favor of a team that best them on the field.
Are we really talking about expanding it more because poor BYU and Vanderbilt aren't in? Who give a rip.
So for whining about it they get a guarentee if they are in the top 12 they will be in the playoffs forever. What we have is fine, the only issue is Notre Dame is whining because they were left out in favor of a team that best them on the field.

5 teams from one conference where 2 of the games are replays from the regular season is a joke...We played a regular season for a reason...5 teams in a 12 team tournament from 1 conference is ridiculous...I don't wanna hear the happy horseshit that no other team in the country is qualified or a better team than the lower 2 teams from that conference...This is a National Championship Tournament and should be represented by the best teams from the power 4 conference and also the group of 5...Put in NO MORE than 1 at large team from a conference to fill out the bracket...The regular season conference schedule should determine who the 2 best teams are in a conference and you can add in a 3rd team at large...That is still 25% of the field...To have one conference have 40% of the teams in a tournament is ridiculous...Sorry...The funny thing is Miami is in and they didn't even make their conference championship game? So you are going to convince me that a team that wasn't good enough to play for their conference championship belongs in the CFP with a shot to win a National Championship but the 2 teams that actually played for the conference championship aren't good enough...Ok...Twist yourselves into pretzels to try to justify that...This will forever be a farce until they institute rules that you play your way in during the regular season with earned automatic bids for each conference and a group of 5 qualifier...It's a joke...Most years in the lower tier playoffs there is always a lower seed team that makes a run at it...Who needs to see Oklahoma play Alabama again after they just played in mid November? or Ole Miss play Georgia again after they already played in October? I say why bother playing the regular season...Pick your 12 teams and have an invitational playoff...This ain't a true National Championship tournament...This is a farce...
Follow the $, power, and influence................
With all the teams declining bowls, I guess we were all right huh Jimmy?will they declare early next week? That would allow the players that are playing to have all the practice time.
"Bowl games don't matter"
"They're just meaningless"
??? So you want me to agree with you that Bowl games don't matter because a few guys on a forum said so? Woopie doo.. A few college teams got slighted and opted out after being snubbed. That's their problem. Let them deal with it.
I get it, there's still some imbalance with the college football playoffs. The teams that play are one day better than the rest, win or lose.
Rest assured, most of you be sitting on your rocking chairs watching the pinstripe bowl and logged into forum chat.
They already got it, that was negotiated before what happened. So for whining about it they get a guarentee if they are in the top 12 they will be in the playoffs forever. What we have is fine, the only issue is Notre Dame is whining because they were left out in favor of a team that best them on the field.

Is that for just them or all independents?
It doesn't seem like you're smart enough to understand the difference between playing a bowl game.and the bowl game mattering. It's just practice, bowls don't matter matter anymore. With all the teams declining bowls, I guess we were all right huh Jimmy?will they declare early next week? That would allow the players that are playing to have all the practice time.

You are right on the money Roam...This is 3 extra weeks of practice and a scrimmage game experience for the young kids...This is an evaluation game for the underclassmen to make an impression...I am excited for this game to see what kind of young talent we have...
@jimmy-v Yes. I'm a PSU fan. I'll be in my recliner watching the game /w my son, having a beer. An yes, I'll be cheering and bitching no matter who shows up to play.
Damn straight, I will!
Just like we all do for the spring game. We know it doesn't matter in the grand sceme of things, but it's still fun to watch.@jimmy-v Yes. I'm a PSU fan. I'll be in my recliner watching the game /w my son, having a beer. An yes, I'll be cheering and bitching no matter who shows up to play.

I’d treat this Clemson game just like a spring game vut do everything possible to win. I love the bowl games I hate it that they don’t mean much anymore. I still believe they players that play want to be there and have fun.
I am very excited for this bowl game...Just to see the team vibe and to watch these young kids play to see what we got for next year and what they are going to need to bring in from the portal...Hey Pipe if you want to go let me know I will score us some tickets and we can grab a steak, cigars and your beloved Cracklin Corona's after the game...I may even get us in one of the suites there at the Stadium...I have a few hooks there...Let me know...
We got 3 studs sitting out so far. Does anybody know how many Clemson players are sitting out?
He suggests the Clemson Opt-outs based on declaring for the draft but no official 'opt outs'
