Phil Trautwein's Coaching Profile
- Phil Trautwein returned to BC as the offensive line coach for the 2018 season after previously serving as a graduate assistant on staff from 2013-15.
- Begins his second full season as offensive line coach for BC in 2019 after helping mentor Chris Lindstrom into All-America status in 2018 en route to becoming BC's 20th all-time first-round NFL draft pick.
- Lindstrom was the ninth Boston College offensive lineman selected in the first round and the first since Anthony Castonzo went 22nd overall to the Indianapolis Colts in 2011.
- Lindstrom was the first Boston College player drafted by the Falcons since Matt Ryan went third overall to Atlanta in the 2008 NFL Draft. He allowed zero sacks the entire season and just three hurries as one of the nation's most dominant offensive linemen. He graded out as BC's top offensive lineman on the season as he earned All-ACC honors for the second time in his career after being a second-team selection in 2017. Lindstrom was named an All-American by the AFCA (second team), The Athletic (second team) and the Associated Press (third team).
- Trautwein coached four players who earned All-ACC honors in his first season coaching the line as Aaron Monteiro, John Baker and Ben Petrula joined Lindstrom on the all-conference teams. Monteiro signed a free agent contract with the Miami Dolphins following the 2019 NFL Draft.
- Hired as the tight ends coach at Davidson College for the 2016 season.
- Promoted to special teams coordinator in 2017 at Davidson, while retaining tight end duties.
- In three seasons as a GA with the Eagles, concentrated on the development of the offensive line, tight ends and fullbacks.
- Played professionally in the NFL for four seasons as an undrafted free agent on the offensive lines in St. Louis, Cleveland, New Orleans and San Diego.
- Earned All-SEC First Team in 2008 and All-SEC Second Team in 2006 as a left tackle at Florida.
- Helped the Gators to a pair of SEC titles in 2006 and 2008, which led to BCS National Championships following each season in January 2007 and 2009.
- Graduated from Florida with a bachelor’s degree in 2007 and master’s degree in 2008.

Thanks for the info...
I know nothing about the guy but that is meaningless. I'm sure coach Franklin and Coach KC have a vision of how they want things blocked up front and he must fit that bill.
I just hope they get the best guy to teach and run what they want.
Some additional info.
Here is the stats for all...
https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ncaaol/2019
Penn State was ranked 122 in passing down sacks...
If there's one thing you know about Boston College, it's that their OL is rather good. Like, REALLY GOOD... especially on running plays.
IMO they'd be even better on pass blocking too if the QB and WRs there were better. However, BC really lacks in those skill positions. But man, just watch them play... everyone knows it's coming and loads the box but it doesn't matter, those lineman are road graters
What type of offense does BC run? Is it an RPO/read option/QB shotgun type offense like PSU has been running? Or is it a traditional NFL type offense? If it is a NFL style offense, would Franklin just be asking someone to teach something at PSU that they haven’t really coached before (like Limegrover)? Stats are great, but a square peg in a round hole would just be a repeat of the last 4 years.
Not sure how reliable this is but Coach Phil Trautweins wikipedia page says this under his Coaching history

Looks like another great pickup by James Franklin. I enjoy every day and don’t hurry my life away but I am looking forward to the spring game with the new OC and OL coach.
Someone couldn't keep a secret I guess?
Though probably the funniest thing I ever saw on Wikipedia was when someone put Verlander as the owner of the Oakland A's 😂😂😂
So is this pic photoshopped?? Recruits get pics taken in uniform, but a coach already wearing Penn State gear made to look like an action photo taken during a game ????
Is it just me or does he look young, like really young?

Should I be worried about BC having a losing season and getting killed 38-6 by Cincinnati lol. I do trust James Franklin though so he must see something in this guy? I just don’t know anything about him
Southern may get a kick out of this .... but our new OL coach was blocking and protecting for your man - Tim Tebow!

I am speechless at the moment, I have no idea how to respond to that? Why would you worry about BC Football? Do they play your Tech? I just don't understand, you just need to explain this to me as if I'm a 5 year old child!
@bobs-dimpled-chin
That’s where we got our OL coach from lol. Losing season and scored 6 points on Cincinnati lol
@bobs-dimpled-chin
Boston College stinks bob lol. Minnesota was a good football team on offense this year BC stinks that’s why I’m asking lol. I’m kind of joking but at the same time scratching my head on this one lol.
I think I now understand what you were asking - I read it as BC having a losing record next year because we poached their coach - not should we be worried about this hire because THEY DID have a losing record this year ...lol
What has BC done on the field for us to want one of their coaches? Lol

No, OLs can't win games on their own.
The offensive line is important but successful teams perform well in all phases of the game.
