The Mississippi State Bulldogs have fired head coach Joe Moorhead after two seasons, a source confirmed to ESPN's Adam Rittenberg on Friday.
Moorhead had a 14-12 record with the Bulldogs, culminating with a loss to Louisville in the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl on Monday.
Stadium first reported that Moorhead had been fired.
Wow, he didn't get much time. 2 years to build a program in the tough SEC doesn't seem reasonable.
Maybe Rahne will hire him as OC/Assistant HC...

That's possible but I think he may be offered and or want a OC position in a power 5 school (Rutgers?)
Too bad they waited so long to fire him, might have ended up at Boston College.
The article mentioned that Miss State was upset about a number of "off the field" incidents. The only one I heard of was the fight between MSU LB Willie Gay and MSU QB Garrett Schrader. I wonder what other "incidents" occurred.
I think Moorhead made a mistake by allowing Willie Gay to play in the bowl game.

He will get an offer for an OC no doubt...
I don't even know what Rahne's staff is looking like. They are FBS C-USA not a high pressure job but still a lot of good football played in C-USA.
I did not see this coming at all...
I thought the same thing but the article also stated he may have been let go if he didn't win the Egg Bowl. I agree the fighting incident probably sealed his fate considering he was on thin ice at the time.
There has to be more to this than just on field performance, because one bad season in his 2nd year with injuries all over the place is a weird time to fire a coach.
Sucks for the kids, there's one BIG reason to hate the early signing period... "Congrats on committing, we just fired your coach"

I agree Roam, there should be a clause that allows an athlete to pull their early signing commitment if the Head Coach is fired. He will then be able to sign with another school of their choice at the February signing date.
Probably goes beyond winning percentage. Very unusual to let a coach go only after 2 seasons.
The student athletes that recently signed are the real victims here. Very likely the AD knew what was going to happen before the early signing date but waited so the recruits wouldn’t bail.
Ain't winning 11 games with THAT combo! High Power Offense with NO Offensive line!!!
Did it 2 times in the 2 years Joe Moorhead was at Penn State and wasn’t Limegrover the OL coach?
Maybe they saw something wrong with his management style or reruits because 2 years is rediculous especially with the injuries this year with emphasis on QB.
The Yellow Jackets don't have the quality of players that Penn State had during that time. Barkley made holes that didn't exist and Mcsorley made passes while running for his life. Moorhead would be a good catch.....just need a different Oline coach to go with him!
Go to he Varsity, have some onion rings and burgers and get ready for some good Penn State football in 2020. I have a good hunch we are going to see a new offense in 2020 that will be closing games by halftime!!
The question I have is will we see any plays under center? Will we see any 2 back sets?
The offense better be good because they’ll be a year older with a year of playing together.
@bobs-dimpled-chin
LMAO! That's a good one BOB. I'd even settle for a tackle eligible!

I don't recall that happening at Minnesota but you never now. Other than a different look it guarantees nothing. Wisconsin proved that in their bowl game.
Did you know: Kirk Ciarrocca was Joe Flacco's QB coach at Delaware?

Like Southern, I am a big fan of James Franklin. But the one thing I do not like about him can be explained in this golf analogy. One day I was playing with this old timer and I started out my round birdying the first 4 holes. After teeing off on the 5th hole, he asked me if I have ever birdied the first 5 holes before. I responded, no I haven't. His response that day has been with me ever since, and this was the mid 90's when he said it, and I've become a much better golfer BECAUSE of what he said. When I said no I haven't, he responded, I guess you never will with that attitude! Epiphany!!! Mind Blown!! Took a while to realize what he meant, but I had negativity in my answer - I should have replied Not Yet! So when James Franklin answered a reporters question about short yard situations and if running a QB sneak was possible, he said we run the RPO and we don't take snaps under center - I read that as a negative mindset. Just because you haven't taken a snap from center in 5 years, the proper answer would be yeah, we could do that! Always think positively, never dismiss any idea, and never limit yourself, we are all capable of so much more than we realize.
