My football skills what little I have says play DA if he’s a 100% but since we’ve stunk up the field against Ohio St and Michigan playing the same shit every year and me wanting to beat Ohio St, tells me Pribula is the better QB in this offense…what have we got to lose? I’d give DA the first quarter but if he struggles and it’s the same old shit, put Pribula in baby.
@roaminglion It’s easy to remember him throwing the ball last year when he wasn’t that good at it so I’m hoping he’s just gotten better throwing the ball. Seems like he knows exactly where the receivers are to make the throws he did because they were some tough throws. I understand what you’re saying and if this kid can throw that good James Franklin needs a foot shoved up his ass and turned sideways for not letting him start because the offense looked pretty dang good in the second half and Wisconsin in known for having a good defense most of the time. It’s one of those times can I believe what my eyes saw Saturday night 😂. Let’s also not forget that TD he throw against Ole Miss and got us back in that game and also the game Pribula stepped in last year when Allar got hurt and got the win because I believe we would’ve lost to Rutgers had Pribula not come in and saved the day. I’m trying to connect the dots here and does he get that lucky every time he comes in? 😂
- He threw the ball 1 time against Rutgers, so I don't know what that game proves about his passing ability?
- He threw 1 pass against Ole Miss, on a scramble where he extended the play. Not a timing pattern. Again, only 1 pass in the entire game.
- Take the other games from last year, and he was 9 of 19 passing for 47.3% a completion percentage.
I'm not saying he's not good, as I stated he looks like he's got the tools. What I am saying is we have an extremely small sample size and some of his throws were REALLY tight windows that worked out in the end. He's definitely got more gunslinger in him than Allar. However, you need to take the good with the bad and my thought is he'd probably throw more int's over the course of a year. All that said, it's just an observation and very hard to really say with certainty based on the extremely limited action he's seen.
I will say this, his running ability is a HUGE plus for the offense.
I go back to the Peach Bowl last year which may not be a fair take on my end.
Down 20-10 in the second quarter, Pribula comes in, 12 yard keeper and then a 48 yard TD pass. We don't see him again until he throws a 2 point conversion in the 4th quarter.
Allar comes back in the 3rd quarter. 3 possessions, 14 yards total and punt, punt and punt. Now down 31-17.
I am pretty much like everyone else here. Allar is a good QB, he has improved a lot from year and I really think his passing has improved a lot and he is better at it vs Pribula.....unless those passes Pribula threw against Wisconsin were more than just being lucky! I think we would also be sitting 7-0 if Pribula was the QB this year. The reason I favor Allar for this weekend is because when he is on, his passes are very crisp and on the money. I just haven't seen enough from Pribula to feel confident he could manage this team on Saturday.
If Allar is healthy, you got to go with him. But, if the offense struggles to score or move the ball, JF can't wait until they are down 14-0 to make a switch. We are not coming back against Ohio State like we did vs USC and BG. Ain't going to happen.
Honestly, I am just glad we are sitting 7-0 and have a great game to watch this weekend. This is by far one of the biggest games at Beaver Stadium in a long time. I hope we play well, the QB - whoever it is - has a good day and we finally beat Ohio State. I don't for a second think Ohio State is better than PSU!!
GO STATE!!!!
Pribula got benched for throwing 1 pass for a TD. I still today haven’t figured that one out. 😂
We can debate all the hypotheticals we want but the only way Allar isn’t the starter this Saturday is if his knee injury is severe and we’ll find out about 11:45 AM EST on Saturday
I will get in on this conversation...I am adamant on a player not losing his spot to injury...So Allar is the starter if he is healthy...These 2 kids come to the QB position with 2 different skill sets...Allar is the prototypical pocket passer...Pribula is more of a movement guy and by that I mean he is at his best rolling out and on the move with the option to always run the ball and do so effectively...I think Pribula fits this offensive scheme better than Allar does...I also think Pribula has something intangible that you can't measure...He just seems very confident and I believe that comes from this kid being a winner...Yes he fit those 2 or 3 throws in very tight windows...My bet is he has done that many time before...Does Allar take the same chance? I don't think so...Allar seems to me to play not to lose...Pribula plays to win...He really has a lot of McSorley in him and brings a different dimension to the offense...Did you notice how on some of the shock plays how open the WR's were? That is a result of a defense having to account for his ability to run...A mobile QB like him puts a lot of pressure on defenses...This kid reminds me a hell of a lot of Trace McSorley...He is a gamer and a winner and this is no knock on Allar but my belief is Allar plays not to lose and this kid Pribula plays to win...I always go with the kid that plays to win...
The first play was the TD against Ole Miss then he got benched. It was a good play no luck involved.
That was well written!
We have two good QB's. I like the Warren/Allar combo, but I like the Pribula/Singleton/Allan too. What I don't want to see this this weekend, is a little of both. I think both QB's will find it hard to get their rhythm going if they are constantly being pulled in and out....especially Pribula.
Good grief, we are 7-0 and not sure who the starting QB will be this weekend against Ohio State. This was not supposed to be part of our discussions this week! I definitely believe Ohio State is a very good team, but not their best team we have faced in the last 10 years.
Let me just start it now!
Penn State 31
Ohio State 17
GO STATE!!
Allar ranks 10th nationally with a QBR of 83.6. He has completed 71.3% of his passes for 1,640 yards and totaled 15 touchdowns with four interceptions.
just got them stats off espn so the kid is having a very good year but our run game seems to struggle with him at QB so that tells me either the OL isn’t good or DA just isn’t a good fit for our offense. The NFL is where his style of QB play fits and I still believe he’ll be a first round draft pick this year. The article said both QB’s are getting snaps so we’ll probably have to wait until Saturday to find out as homer pointed out. If DA is a 100% he should be the starter.
Man we need to win Saturday and get over that hump. Just find a way to win baby.
Well said, Southern. You have a way of cutting through all the BS and telling it like it is!
Well if you are just going off the stats for DA, why are you saying the run game isn't good? Going by the statistics, we are averaging 197 yards a game. Way higher than 2016 or 2017, and higher than even 2019.Allar ranks 10th nationally with a QBR of 83.6. @roaminglion you saw how much easier we ran the ball with Pribula in the game. I’m pointing out with the stats we should have a dominating offense and I’m not seeing it. I’m seeing a stacked bad ass football team that’s confused on what kind of QB we need. Looking at the stats we should dominate Ohio St Saturday.
Go back and look at all the games, and you will see we ran much better in the 2nd half in practically all of them. What happened last Saturday was how Penn State has played all year, nore dominant in the 2nd half. Allar or Pribula, it's a trend no matter who is playing.@roaminglion you saw how much easier we ran the ball with Pribula in the game. The run game hasn’t been the same since Donkoh started having injury issues a couple games ago. He was our best run blocker and hopefully whatever his injury issue has been is better for the OSU game.
When we can keep the LB’s and DE’s on their toes we can dominate in the run game and that makes passing the ball much easier, it makes everything better.
@roaminglion i agree with you on us being a second half team and i believe we would’ve won had DA started in the second half but dang Pribula makes moving the chains easier from where I sit. I’m for whoever gives us the best chance of winning. 7-0 baby just win Saturday
From this article it looks like DA will be good to go. Unfortunately though, DDS was not spotted at practice.
@psuinhawaii Hawaii is in the house baby. Glad to hear from you buddy hope everything is good in the sunshine. It’s DA team I’m glad he’s ready to go.
That sounds like todays part of practice open to the media went exactly like some of the podcasts said it would and was mostly for show and to give OSU things to think about.I’m sure he’s still a game time decision and doubt he’s “good to go” just yet.
