I didn't realize that Michael Johnson Sr., who is the father of our QB recruit Michael Johnson Jr., was the WR coach at Oregon. There are already people here talking about the opening at Penn State, and how he may bolt to take it.

Apparently he has a 20 year relationship with Franklin, obviously trusts him (son coming here), and wasn't hired by the current coach at Oregon but by Willie Taggart.  So, that's certainly an interesting development.

Only hire the guy if he can coach. Also, could backfire if his kid doesn’t meet all the hype.

Considering he's coached in the NFL & college for over 20 years...

Pretty sure he knows how to coach.

He’s obviously a quality candidate but I always feel uneasy about these kind of hires, they look like a pay to play kind of arrangement. As Roam said, he does have a previous relationship with Franklin but that’s a lot of flyover between Oregon and Pennsylvania and a lot that could go wrong in the process. My wish is for Bobby Engram though I realize that hire is highly unlikely.

Fathers coaching children is a little league thing. There are examples where at a higher level it works but that is rare. I coached high school and some college for over 20 years. I always wanted parents at a distance.  I have confidence that whatever Franklin decides, he will make it work.

It happens a lot at the collegiate level, and the kids seem to be fine. So where do you get your "rarely works" statement from?

Also, he wouldn't be coaching him, he'd be coaching the WRs. His son is a QB.

You need to independently review each situation.  The Johnson family seemed to work out pretty well here.
