He showed today that he is gifted. His ceiling is much higher than Clifford’s. If he got more playing time, I think NOW he would be better than Clifford. The only thing he lacks is experience.
Thoughts?
Maybe, maybe not. But I have been on that wagon since half way through the Purdue game & no he is not paying me to say this!
Allar:
Momma said, "that ain't no child, no sir; ain't no one player gonna tackle that boy, look at the size of him, he's a man amongst boys; once he can think as fast as he can throw the ball, he's gonna be just fine; he sure does look like he's having fun". Poppa says, "gawd dern that's a big feller, why ain't they been playing him?"
In all seriousness, IMO, for his experience level he has shown good composure, can move the ball, and just looks like he has a good feel for the position. I'm hoping next year he is throwing darts.
He’s already better than Clifford and should be the starter
As long as we win out, I don't care either way. I don't believe starting against these next few teams will matter either way for next year.
Got the measureables for sure. Someday PSU will get a QB with the measureables, brain (call it Larry Bird spacial awarenes if you like) and can I throw the word 'moxy' in to compliment those that God didn't bless with the body but were winners.
Allar has proven 1 of the 3. 2 he is good, 3 he is great.
He has that P word......
@roam
I disagree. The reps he gets now will prepare him for next year. Playing Allar now will make a difference in 2023. Not saying throw Clifford out with the bath water. But give Allar has many snaps as possible.
@sky James Franklin is giving him as many snaps possible but he’s also trying to win the games. Guys we only get 12 regular season games a year, let’s win as many as possible and see what happens that’s always the goal.

Sky, I agree. The game day tapes can be studied and analyzed all the off season. As airline pilots say - flight simulators are fine but nothing beats actual pants on the seat.
I don't often agree with Jimmy, but in my opinion, he's handling the QB situation the right way. He's winning while getting Allar valuable playing experience. The only thing I might do differently is get CV some PT. If he sticks around, he'll probably be the backup to Allar, and any game experience he can get this year would be a plus.
CV may be so good that he doesn't need the reps, lol!
In today's game, the bottom line is that in a lot of cases, the 2nd stringer has to be able to step in a play regardless.
Plenty of quarterbacks come in without playing any starting games the year before and do fine.
I don't think the message you want to send is to bench your starting quarterback during a possible 10-2 season because you want to prepare the backup for next year.
And make no mistake, that is exactly the message Franklin would be sending because up to this point he's consistently said Clifford is the guy.
My only fear is that come next year, if Allar should go down, if our backup hasn't played in a game for over a year, we're back where we started.
He’s already better than Clifford and should be the starter
Amen to that. We could start DA and still win the last three games. Cael Sanderson was never afraid to start his best player. Hell, he benched an AA in Beard in favor of a better wrestler. That was the message he sent to us and there was nobody on the squad that had a problem with that. The best person plays, what's the big deal? JF could learn a lot from CS if he simply paid attention. But what the heck does he know? I mean, he's only won 9 Nattys since taking over our program.
This is D1 sports. The best players play. If you want to be the best and start, get better. Its as simple as that.
He showed today that he is gifted. His ceiling is much higher than Clifford’s. If he got more playing time, I think NOW he would be better than Clifford. The only thing he lacks is experience.

Can't say for sure. Need to see that against teams such as Michigan and OSU. Beginner's luck ?
Bottom line there is no right or wrong answer. No doubt DA has a very high ceiling. Lets hope he gets close while at PSU.
"The best person plays, what's the big deal? "
My whole point is that Franklin has said Clifford is the best player all year, so I doubt that changes after a 45-7 win in which Allar had limited playing time against a team down 30 points.
In the past few weeks Franklin has never said Clifford was the best player. Allar has passed him. What JF has said is a bunch of nebulous bullshit that they believe Clifford gives them the best chance to win.
Our WR's made Clifford look pretty good on Saturday. Drew Allar made our WR's look pretty good on Saturday. Big difference.
I didn’t want to start a new post so I’m just asking here. Brent Key took over the GT head coaching job after Collins got fired earlier this year does he get paid more money for the rest of the year while he’s the head coach? He’s doing a dang good job too, he’s 3-2 playing with a backup quarterback. He played for GT under George O’Leary and he was slick Nicks OL coach for a few years so I’m quite confident he’s going to be a good coach. I hope they offer him the job if he finishes out strong. I don’t think they’ll beat Georgia but I do believe they can beat Miami. Thanks
I'd like to think he's getting paid more. Probably not what Collins was getting paid, but more than what he was being paid before taking over as acting HC. If he gets the job done, he should have a good shot at the job.

When I see a coach saying he deserves to start, he gives us the best chance to win, etc... It leads me to believe that he feels he's the best player at this point and time. You're right though, he's never specifically said the words "Clifford is the better player".
Does Allar have more talent? Absolutley. Can he read a defense? Who knows. Can he hold up to pressure? Who knows. Can he do the things mentally that are needed to start, not just come into a game up 30 points? Again, who knows.
My point is an always has been Franklin and the coaching staff obviously don't think he's quite ready yet.
“Number one, that’s the wrong message. That’s the wrong signal,” Franklin said, asked what he would say to fans who want a quarterback change. “...That doesn’t mean that Drew hasn’t done some good things. We’d love to get him an opportunity and to continue to grow him and to continue to develop him for his future. No doubt about it.” - James Franklin
This quote is pretty much all I've been saying Franklin thinks. He sees practice. Yurcich sees practice. We don't. I'm not saying anyone else is wrong. All I've been saying the whole time is that Franklin has consistently said Clifford is the guy, and I don't think he's changing that tune with 3 games to go.
I don’t care who starts as long as the best man that gives us the best chance to win is out there. I know Clifford is trying his best but I still want to choke him about 5 plays a game 😂. I do believe Clifford is the best man today and that’s why he is out there. James Franklin is in a tough spot because he needs a good finish to the season so some heat will come off him from the wolves that want his head lol. He puts the freshman in and he plays like a freshman against a fresh defense and it gets us beat the wolves will be coming after his head again. Like I’ve said, winning solves 99.9999% of your problems and losing to Maryland or Rutgers caused 99.9999999999% of your headaches. Why take a chance when he needs a 11 win season especially after the last 2 years. Trust me guys I’ll be Allars biggest cheerleader next year if he’s the starter. We need to finish strong. James Franklin is feeling some heat I’m telling ya that regardless if he’s fired or not. It also might hurt recruiting if we blow a game that we should win. Just my opinion though
All I know is, deciding which QB should start is well above my pay grade.
@been-there-ii we got some good college football minds in here brother, that’s what makes this so much fun. I’m sure James Franklin will get it figured out since his head is on the line 😂
