@psujoe dude on locked on said we might get the other QB Peter Bourque? He talks wrestling and football that’s why I mostly listen to him. Sometimes he is way off.

If the last 2 years have shown me anything, it's that winning QBs aren't coming from HS recruiting classes anymore. They are coming from the portal.

All 4 teams in the semis last year had 1st year portal QBs, and the year before we were the only team that had a QB we recruited out of HS.

@roaminglion  i agree but recruiting is still very important especially if the money ever dried up which I believe it will some in the next few years.

Running one of these major college football programs is even more difficult than being a GM or owner of an NFL franchise...You need a fund raiser to go out and drum up as much NIL money as you can...You need a general manager who can keep track of how much NIL money you have at your disposal and form a roster through recruiting and the portal to make sure you fill all of the roster needs as best as you can knowing that this is a yearly event as every player is a free agent at the end of the season...You need a top flight scouting and personnel department to work with the general manager to give your input as to who is the best available talent at each position and what the cost is going to be to lure them in...The programs who are best able to manage all of these factors will end up being the most competitive year in and year out and those that can't will be relegated to insignificance...

That RB is a huge get for us now we need to land a big time QB. If we don’t land a big time QB then we’ll just have to get one in the portal. I honestly don’t like this system but it is what it is. Like the NFL we’re headed for only one good QB on each team because of the cost. Lose your QB and your season is pretty much over. Lol

If having only 1 good QB on a teams is we’re we are today because of money I really believe we should’ve kept Grunk I know it’s water under the bridge now I’m just saying lol damn ole southern was finally seeing good QB play after 3 years…shit lol

@rip I believe Roam is right about the QB situation in college football the days of have 2 QB’s on a team that can go almost anywhere and play are done so letting Grunk walk tells me MC loves the backup QB that came from Iowa St. James Franklin come out smelling like a rose getting Grunk and millions of dollars from Penn St by gettin fired 😂I believe Becht will be just as good but it’s just for 1 year vs 3 years. We gotta get it done this year RIP. The more I see and connecting the dots I’m seeing me change my mind every day I gotta get that old way of thinking out 😂

@southern-psu-fan If Grunk is at VT for 3 years, it means he wasn't as good as we all thought. If he is really that good, he leaves VT after this year or next.

@southern-psu-fan  Sayko is a blowhard. He usually has two or three points he wants to make and he’ll repeat them over and over for the entire podcast. He can take 5-10 minutes worth of material and turn it into a 40 minute podcast

@psujoe he does repeat things a lot but I like some of the recruiting dudes he has on. He’s ok you can get some good stuff there. I drive a truck homer and I can’t listen to politics all day that will rot your brain 😂

I see we got Will Wood, the QB we obviously wanted if reports are accurate. I was thinking about the new rules in place, and it strikes me that Campbell could be using a strategy some may have not considered.

There is no 25 man cap on recruiting anymore, nor is there going to be an 85 limit... as the NCAA is moving to 105 person rosters. Since that is the case, could it be that there is no reason to hold off on signing "lesser" recruits anymore? No need to save space really.

Get a good recruiting class nucleus, and you can fill it in with some bigger recruits or portal players later on. Especially win they see you winning, while schools they were interested in and/or commited to start flailing.

Just a thought, because the rules are very different now. It follows that recruiting strategy would change as well.

It's quite possible that many coaches now see HS recruiting as more about depth than talent... (generally speaking)
