Oh yeah, me too. I don't want to make it look like I'm 100% positive about MC, just saying the recruiting doesn't really concern me at all. We need to win, and if we do the players will come.

I'd be estatic with 11-1, happy with 10-2, and slightly underwhelmed with 9-3. Anything less is failure IMO.

Honestly who gives a chit. I really mean that, this isn't 2010. It's 2026, and signing big HS recruiting classes isn't nearly the big deal it used to be. Unless they are playing as a freshman, good luck keeping them anyway.

You can also clean up in the portal the next year if you miss on some positions from the HS cless.

I'd rather save NIL money for proven players out of the portal. IMO. I'd also rather wait until the end of the year, after most of these kids have changed their minds 17 times before complaining about no recruits.

Bottom line, if we're 11-1 or 10-2 and other good teams chit the bed this year, you can bet those players will be decommiting

\

If we had done anything significant other than sign guys from a middle of the pack Big12 team during the last portal period I’d subscribe to that theory too. But we didn’t so I don’t.

Cignetti did it with kids from a team that was in the FCS in 2022... so I do.

And last year at this time you and a bunch of other people on this forum thought we were going to win a national championship because we were following the same path that OSU and Meatchicken did.

Teams like Iowa St have very good football players you can see that when they play the heavyweights because teams like Iowa St hang tough the first half but as the games go on late in the 3rd quarter they get tired because teams like Iowa St don’t have the depth to keep plugging guys in and out. That’s most of the difference between the lightweight and heavyweight teams. The heavyweights use to be 2 and 3 deep but not anymore with NIL and the transfer portal that’s leveled the playing ground to more teams. It’s a mini NFL league with no salary cap. This years Penn St teams is loaded probably the best team we’ve had since 09 just wait and see baby…I’m feeling real good about this year baby! 😁🇺🇸

I saw Iowa State under Campbell as a team using the exact same philosophy that Ferentz does at Iowa and now I see Campbell trying to install that same philosophy at PSU. If it continues expect us to compete with the Hawkeyes to be the best 2nd tier B1G team annually.

You: "I heard we have a great chance of picking up a 5* QB that was at the game last Saturday."

Me: "For what? to ger worse? QBs dont develop here"

-Also-

Me: "More money? QBs are going to take less money somewhere else rsther than play for someone who has shown zero ability to develop QBs"

This was before we imploded as a team, so no I wasn't all rainbows and sunshine about our chances like you say. I pretty much saw that our coaching staff couldn't develop dick at QB heading into UCLA. National Championship? LMAO.

I will say that yes, before the season I had hopes that Allar would take a step forward and we could compete. I was hopefully optimistic, which very quickly evaporated after the first few games.

In case you’ve forgotten we do have a new coach and coaching staff now and after we hired them everyone said “I can’t wait to see what he’ll do with the level of talent he can recruit at PSU”.  Since he’s been here we’ve hardly done anything other than go after Iowa State level recruits.

We’ll be ok this year because of our pathetic schedule but in the future letting the top talent in the region go elsewhere without even fighting for them is going to bite us in the ass.

Nothing we were told was going to happen is happening and it is concerning.

I'm not worried 4 months in, I could not care less. Not going to worry about something I can't control that MC isn't going to get fired for in a year.

If we look average on the field and our recruiting still sucks a year from now, sure it would be a bit concerning.

I'm on the bus with BT.   However, nothing I've seen so far is very encouraging beyond Kumbaya!

We got the best 20 players Iowa St had which I wouldn’t trade for the best recruiting class in the country for what we need this year. This is our year baby just wait and see.

So as a guy that follows recruiting pretty heavily here’s what bothers me. This class is supposed to end up with around 35 players but I’ve sat and watched the top players in the region verbal elsewhere as we sit back and watch without even making a push for them and now I’m hearing three of our guys including the top guy in the class are on flip watch so we’re now potentially down to 12 players and only a handful of “blue chip” players are even considering us. Were allegedly going to get a commit from a 4 star running ack from South Carolina next week but who are we going to fill the rest of this class with?

If we win this year and look good, I can see a bunch of recruits flipping later in ther year. In today's world these April commitments aren't worth jack IMO.

A commitment in 1990 meant I am headed to your school in the fall. A commitment in 2026 means I like you today, keep me happy or I might like someone else tomorrow

I am going to keep my big mouth shut and see what happens...To me anything less than 11-1 regular season and an appearance in the B1G Championship game and CFP is a failure with the schedule they have this year...USC at home in a white out gamer should be a W...Michigan on the road will be tough and although Washington is on the road and a tough place to play on the road they should win that game as well...We brought in this staff to win those games and if they don't to me there is no difference between this outfit and Franklin...I am rooting for this guy and the program to succeed and am going to keep my big mouth shut and reserve judgement until the season is over...

@the-funeral-director Trust me FD, you won’t be disappointed…11-1 playing in the big 10 championship is on the way. DA and JF is gone! And Jim Knowles is also gone!

I agree, though I'd be a bit more forgiving since it's his 1st year. So either 11-1 or 10-2 is acceptable to me though 10-2 is not ideal. Just IMO. That said...

  • We not only get USC at our place, but we play them after they play Oregon & Washington before us in a brutal 3 game stretch for them.
  • Michigan will be tough because it's not only on the road... but right after USC and the Wolverines have a bye before the game as well. It will also be our 7th game without a bye yet, so there's that.
  • As for Washington, honestly I don't know much about them other than their stadium is the loudest in the nation when it's at peak. Tough place to play... I've been there once for a game and it's just a beautiful setting.

I see this going 1 of 2 ways...They either go 11-1 or 8-3 or worse...I am hoping for the former rather than the latter...I am keeping my big mouth shut til after the season...

Yup... if those 3 teams are what people think, then they are all better than anyone we've beat in the last 3 years.

Crazy to say, but we've only beat 2 teams that finished ranked in the regular season since 2023. Iowa (2023) and Illinois (2024), that's it.

Throw in Boise State and SMU from the CFP in 2024 and that's the extent of our ranked victories. And I know that you think BSU and SMU are lightweights to boot.

Not really a great resume.

We are going to know what we have after the USC game which will be a white out game. They lose that game it is going to be a 3 loss season or worse...That game is going to be the tell as to what kind of a ballclub we have here...Like I said...I am gonna keep my big mouth shut til after the season is over...

Knowing DA,James Franklin and Jim Knowles is gone makes me very optimistic about having a great season. All 3 dudes tried their best but they just didn’t get it done! New era with MC and I’m feeling good about it!

One last thought on all of this...This guy was brought in to win these games...So for me it is expected that he at least win 2 of these games...If he doesn't than to me it's the same old shit...I don't give grace periods to coaches who are being paid millions of dollars...Time to take off the diaper and put the big boy pants on...This is a win and loss business...He is supposed to win these ballgames and if he doesn't then you fire him and bring in the next candidate...My patience isn't what it used to be...In hindsight and I am the biggest offender of this because I supported him up until he lost to Oregon last year but Franklin should have been canned 3 years before he was...This guy has 2 seasons to see what he can do...If he wins he stays and if it's the same old shit then he needs to go...No more hanging on to these guys for years and watch the same crap year after year...Ok...I am finished and will keep my big mouth shut until the end of the season...No more from me...Hopefully this guy turns it around...

@the-funeral-director yep with NIL and 💰 we ain’t got time to wait on a DC to take 5 years before his system starts working and the HC doesn’t get 5 years either. It’s win now baby! 😂
