At a certain point you need to reevaluate what your priorities actually are. Did we every really care about student athletes and amateurism... or was it always about winning? Even as we closked ourselves in the aura of "we do it the right way"Like FD says, win & the $ will follow.

@Roam...The reality is the rules have changed and if you want to compete you are going to have to spend money...Now to get your question...Amateurism ended when they approved paying NIL to players...The minute you accept money for playing a sport you have now become a professional...There truly is no major Amateur sport anymore...Olympians are being paid and that event was supposedly the poster child for amateur sports...Amateur sports are dead and gone...I am not saying I like it but it is the reality of the situation...Now let me address your student athlete concerns...Because you are paying a player 2 or 3 million dollars to play doesn't mean you can't tie that money into attending classes and making whatever the appropriate grade is that you set for them to achieve...I don't think paying a player negates whatever your university or program standards are...One isn't exclusive to or negates the other in my opinion...You can BOTH pay a player and make it part of the contract that they attend classes and achieve a certain GPA or they breach the NIL agreement and get nothing...You actually make my point and I agree with you...I asked the question why spend billions on stadium renovations and facility upgrades if you aren't going to spend the money to compete to actually fill the stadium and utilize the facilities you just spent Billions to renovate and upgrade? I can tell ya that the NIL trajectory they are on is going to produce middle of the road teams that this fan base isn't accustomed to and won't accept and as a result these facilities and that stadium is going to be half empty for most games...I can tell ya...This guy loses to USC, Michigan and Washington this year there is going to be a lot of grumbling and if they lose a 4th game look out...Unfortunately this system is a pay to play system...If you want to compete you are going to have to pay...Right now we ain't paying and as a result the recruits ain't coming...Nick Singleton laid it out last summer...I also said when this system was announced that you are going to see the schools with the big benefactors (ie. the Oregon's, Texas A & M's etc. of the world) who weren't traditional power houses become power houses and that trend will continue...The question to you Roam and the rest of the Penn State fans is do we spend to compete or say to hell with it accept mediocrity or worse and just become a true academic school when it comes to athletics? If that's the case then they might as well pull out of the B1G and join the Patriot League...One thing I can tell you for certain is that if they don't up their NIL ante they ain't going to win anything and a budget that is 60% of what your competition is almost guarantees you middle of the pack or worse...
